In Fighter Fred's third book, he confronts the darkest evil!
Well ... fairly dark evil. It's a temple. In a swamp. And they worship a snake goddess. So, yeah, probably evil, but really, Fred's just here because of his barbarian buddy Helen. She's putting together a team to take that temple down!
Mak-Thar is happy to help. Twilight and Nightshade return as well, joining a crack heist team led by the master thief of Basetown.
Will they pull off a daring heist? Will this satisfy Helen's lust for destruction? Will Twilight find any character motivation for this adventure?
Whether the temple is evil or not, you know it's going to be goofy. It's Fighter Fred! --------------------------------------------------- Fighter Fred and the Evil Temple of Evil is the third novel in the Fighter Fred series. Each story is set in a world where fighters have hit points, iron rations count as food, and evil is defined on page 11 of the rulebook. For Fighter Fred, it's real life!
Jason writes the Edgewhen series of fantasy adventure novels. And when he's not writing novels, he works in the board game industry. He translated the rulebook for Galaxy Trucker, he wrote the rulebook for Underwater Cities, and he designed the English-language word list for Codenames.
In the Fighter Fred series, Jason combines his love of fantasy with his love of rulebooks and discovers that the result can be hilarious.

I love the simplistic stylishness of the character interaction (damn my low charisma dump stat!). But seriously as a teen who played Gygax’s AD&D it is a pleasant homage to an exceptional gaming genius. Without Gary’s rules there would be no fantasy RPGs or computer games celebrating the genre. But Fighter Fred captures the imagination as the stolid NPC who we all grew to love in our own games. I hope the author doesn’t diverge too much from the rules based concept in his further stories because this tongue-in-cheek light hearted presentation of metagaming concepts in a world that the NPCs deem real is what gives it a special magic of its own. Please bring us more of Fighter Fred, Mak Thar the clever mage, Twilight the Elf, Yelling Helen the Barbarian and the ever so flakey Nightshade. Don’t break the formula too much, it is great just the way it is.
Jason Holt delivers a really fun and entertaining story with wonderful characters and hilarious moments. Any TRPG player will have a great time reading this volume, the author introduce new party members and develops our beloved characters, maintaining their quirks and personalities that make them unique. And now, we have a full party of 6, this serie just gets better and better.
I enjoyed the addition of Wren, and Fred must have some points in Perform after all that singing. Fun story, I enjoy how they made new friends and the ongoing advertising for Nycademon Knickers continues to amuse me.
