On her 16th birthday, orphan Himari Momochi inherits the ancestral estate she’s never seen. Momochi House exists on the barrier between the human and spiritual realms, and Himari is meant to act as guardian between the two worlds. But on the day she moves in, she finds three handsome squatters already living in the house, and one seems to have already taken over her role!

The Premise

The Demon Prince of Momochi House vol 14 starts revealing all the secrets we (and Himari) have been dying to hear about from the moment we all met Aoi and Nue. We know that Kasha has has a preoccupation with Aoi but we really didn't understand why or the nature of their connection. Well, not we know! And it is quite surprising... because Nue actually comes out as the villain and I was on the floor dying. WHAT?!


The Buzz

We learn that little Himari quite ruined Kasha's original plan for his mansion trap... Rescuers come and its quite a battle too...between unexpected opponents! There were so many twists that I struggled at times understanding just what was being said in The Demon Prince of Momochi House vol 14. I couldn't consume this volume... I had to meticulously read each page and consider the implications before continuing. It really is a doozy!!


The Feels

Nue shows some unexpected depth. Yup he's been constrained by Aoi to a point up to now and all the chains fall off!! I've always loved this series for the unique relationship between Aoi and Nue but The Demon Prince of Momochi House vol 14 really blows up what we know about these two. It's obvious that Aoi has been feeling guilt and depression but we never really understood the nature of it. We assumed it was his background... Well it's not!! But you'll have to read it to learn the truth.


The Visuals

I hands down can say that The Demon Prince of Momochi House vol 14 is the most gorgeous of all the volumes in this series! The use of light and dark was at its best as we learn truths and understand the darkness at the heart of Momochi House and its occupants. The expressions make you melt as everyone joins the fray! Having so much of both Nue and Kasha is a real treat and I wouldn't expect anything less from one of the final volumes of this dynamite series.

The Demon Prince of Momochi House vol 14 is all about the truth being revealed, whether its from the light or the dark doesn't matter. Himari will learn that nothing is as it seems and then she'll learn the truth of her own sins. I can't wait for the final volume of this dark and delicious series!!

First read of 2020!

I get a little confused by this series sometimes, especially when there is a long gap between the releases, so I think I need to reread the series as a whole before the last few volumes come out. This series does remain my favorite Aya Shouoto title because it doesn’t feel like a gimmick or rehash like, say, Kiss of the Rose Princess. The first few volumes of this series did feel like Kamisama Kiss in some ways, but it has grown into its own and shown a darker undercurrent compared to other supernatural/paranormal manga. I really hope there is a way for a happy ending — but even with a few possibilities for the “final arc” direction, I can tell this story will have an ending worth waiting for.

This volume had a good story and graphics overall, even if the story didn't progress much. However, the wording and captions felt all over the place and very jumbled. It was really hard to keep track of where to read next in parts. I still liked the story and hope there's more to the next volume.

話は結構難しくなった。

葵は特別の人間。だから鵺になったんだ。前は半分鵺と半分葵、でも今は大体全部鵺？なんで？ひまりが来たから？
。。。よく分かんない。

日本へ帰りたい。そこで日本語を分かるのはもっと簡単だと思う。英語のコンテキストで生きていて日本の雰囲気を捕まることは難しい。

Re-Read Review (March 9th, 2023):

This volume, like many things in early COVID, was a blip. Going back to it now while re-reading the series helped me get behind Nue's behavior. He serves as a way for Aoi to reflect on how his ayakashi side has begun to creep in as he's gotten older. It was easy for the me three years ago to brush off his behavior by saying I couldn't understand it. How the wedding played out was very similar to the finale of Kiss of the Rose Princess, just with more action and a few twists to make things fun. Kasha would approve.

I do think the pacing of the last two chapters worked less in the sitting I read them in this time compared to reading the volume all at once. Shouoto could have extended some of the tension more at times. It would have made the reveals more effective than they were. That said, The Demon Prince of Momochi House still shows how Shouoto has improved in storytelling since her first Viz published series. Coming to its end is going to be both exciting and a little sad.

First Read Review (March 15th, 2020):

Nue showed a very sinister side to him this volume. While there were parts to it I liked, I wasn't a fan of him being dodgy in the first three chapters. Regardless, I'm happy Shouoto is starting to delve into Aoi and Kasha's connection. It only continues to get more homoerotic the older I get. There was plenty of pretty art, and the way this story is coming to a close is working well for me so far. It's sad I have to wait longer than I expected for the next volume because the cliffhanger has me anticipating what's next.

We finally get Kasha and Aoi's back story. It is so interesting getting glimpses into Aoi's past as we try to figure out if he will have a future with Himari. The pacing of the story seems slow though there is a lot of action with the shikigami in this volume. With only two more volumes left, I'm interested to see how the series will wrap up and if Aoi can ever return to being human.

With this volume, we end the arc at Kasha's mansion and head into the final arc of the series. As a result, there are a LOT of answers/background information given finally: Aoi's connection to Kasha, more on the history of the Nue's Shikigami, and the reason for Aoi's despair/depression. As with previous volumes, the artwork is incredibly beautiful and worth the rereads to capture all the details.

Story: Aoi finally tells Himari his history with Kasha and why Kasha is targeting him so heavily. The details reveal why Aoi is so withdrawn most of the time and why he hasn't really tried to seriously leave Momochi House. But with Aoi's soul freed from the Nue, the Nue is acting very much on his own and without regard to Himari's safety. But with the protector shikigami asleep back at Momochi House, who will be there to help Aoi and Himari, who are at the mercy of Kashi in his own mansion.

There was so much revealed in this volume that it was a treat to read. Of course, I am happy any time Kasha is in the picture; but for once, we get a lot of background on Kasha and his involvement with Aoi and Momochi House. Interestingly (or oddly enough), Kasha is never at odds with the Nue - his only interest is in Aoi. I hope to find out more on that angle shortly.

We also get more background information on Ise and Yukari - especially on Yukari's importance to Aoi. Their bonds will become very important as they break the entrapments Kasha has created on his home turf.

In all, this really is one of the best manga out there- beautifully illustrated but with so much pathos. So few rise to this caliber. I look forward to the next volume, which begins the final arc of the series. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Aoi Nanamori has to protect his Shikigami by calling them back to him out of Kasha's darness flames because he and his Shikigami along with Himari destroyed the center pillar. Kasha sent Aoi's Shikigami to face their sins in the flames of Darkness and the Shikigami almost lose their morals and since they are not like humans if they lose their morals they immediately disappear.

Since Aoi saved his Shikigami it means it is now time for Aoi to face his sins in Kasha's flames of Darkness. Aoi knows that his Ayakashi powers will never be exhausted and his sin is loving Himari the way he does and the Nue takes her away from him and Kasha lets Himari know about Aoi's sin since she forced herself into Aoi's sin without his consent.

Himari finds out that Aoi Nanamori's Ayakashi powers will never become exhausted which means he will be the Nue forever and that Momochi House will not devour him. Kasha then proceeds to ask what is Himari's sin and from my understanding it is Himari herself.

Will Himari and Aoi find their way out of Kasha's grasp? I find out in Volume 15!

Art continues to be mostly pretty, with some weird broken Himari figures, and it's kind of unclear where any character is standing most of the time, particularly in relation to each other. The story is kind of blah and Aoi's personality is kind of weird, though part of that here is because he's Nue, not Aoi. It's... fine enough for a generic shoujo. Not really interesting, and not really terrible. It's not funny or the most enjoyable thing in the world. It's barely even entertaining as an excuse for attractive shirtless dudes to pose randomly, though it at least passes the time.

I loved this book so much because it delved deeper into how Aoi was losing his humanity and how he suffered through depressive states before Himari entered his life. His past really his heartbreaking, and the fact that he willingly went with Kasha because his true desire was to make Himari his so he would be able to love her forever and wouldn't have to lose her. It's sad to see how he gave into his temptation through Nue as he is losing his humanity, but it added more flaws and depth to his character. Also that plot twist at the end! The art was beautiful, and while this book was confusing, I absolutely enjoyed it!

Un matrimonio si sta per celebrare nel palazzo di Kasha. Tutto è caos, dopotutto ci troviamo in una terra di confine dove gli spiriti errano e il caos imperversa. Ma non è ancora l’ora di arrendersi. Aoi ed Himari non sono da soli, a proteggerli ci sono i loro spiriti servitori. A bloccarli tutti c’è il Karma e la verità sul perché Aoi abbia questo forte ed inconcepibile legame con Kasha. Siamo quasi alla fine della storia e come in tutte le storie che giungono alla fine, il protagonista dovrà combattere contro la figura più potente della storia… che sia la sua immagine riflessa?

I've been having some problems with this series for awhile. I really feel like it lost its way, and is just throwing in bigger and stranger things to keep the audience interested. The presence of Kasha has always been problematic, and this volume just amplifies that. Everything about this was "jump the shark" the wedding, Himari's willingness to marry the Nue, the strange "Himari is her own sin" stage. It felt very rushed, very whirlwind.

Kasha, Kasha, and KASHA. Oh, and more love time with New/Aoi and Himari. But man, the way this volume ended on that one page spread was a great set up for the next volume. And I *loved* see all the Shikigami rise around Aoi to take down the Bored Kasha.

Really, if this mangaka wants to do a spin-off of just Kasha, I'd be down.

Did a massive re-read/catch up with this entire series. Beautiful artwork and the story was just as good as I remember it (and it kept me up until 2 in the morning so that's always a good thing...)

เล่มนี้มันแฮะ แบบเนื้อเรื่องออกจะ cringe หน่อยๆ ตอนภูติรับใช้มาที่คฤหาสน์ของคะฉะเพื่อช่วยอาโออิกับฮิมาริ แต่เนื้อเรื่องเริ่มสนุกแล้ว ออกแนวงง แต่ก็พอรู้เรื่อง อาโออิน่าสงสารมาตั้งแต่ Day 1 และยิ่งนานวันก็ยิ่งด่ำดิ่งสู่บาดแผลที่ไม่อาจหลีกหนีได้ ชะตากรรมที่ต้องเกิดมาแบกรับพลังคุณไสยแบบนี้มันเกินไปมาก อยากให้จบดีอะ สาธุ (ทำไมฉันซื้อถึงแค่เล่ม 14 วะ 5555 กี่เล่มจบเนี่ย?)

I am a little confused but I think chapter 15 will help answer the questions, I think that the text placement was a little harder to follow in this volume which added to it. But this is getting potentially even darker. Aoi/Nue we are learning a lot more about their bond it feels like. I wonder what the ending looks like at this point.

I love the kimonos and the shikigamis’ clothing. The drawing is fabulous. I loved this arc but who was the wedding for? The author’s note said the next ac will be the last. Will Aki be able to leave the house or will Himari join him? Can’t wait to see wha will happen!

Yay, this is the volume where everything goes topsy turvy and confusing because we're dealing with inner thoughts and souls and sin and all that meta stuff. Honestly, I'm very confused but intrigued.

The plot ended up slightly confusing, especially towards the end.

A very short volume that struggles to find cohesion. Lots of repeated images in large panels. It feels like a series that has run past the story Aya Shouoto wanted to tell.

This story was intense! As we are getting closer to the end of the story the action is heating up and things are getting crazy. They are trying to escape Kasha's otherworldly house. It was a bit choatic.
