What Does Honesty Mean to us Today? In this insightful work, Jeremy Gove compels us to consider that there's more to honesty than meets the eye. As he points out, there’s no ancient Hebrew word for honest. Instead, emet, the word we translate as “honest,” is just the word for truth. Emet is also comprised of the first, middle, and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet, implying that for something to be true, it must be true from the beginning, to the middle, to the end.
So, it is with our lives.
Using solid scriptural support and an array of compelling stories, "Let's Be Honest" will not only grab your interest, but your intellect and emotions as well. Gove weaves together a tapestry of truth that challenges the reader to self-reflect and examine the man in the mirror.
Read this book at your own risk! It's bound to change your mentality, ministry, and life!
Integrity and honesty are the most popular attributes ascribed to good leaders. However, it is evident by the lack of integrity among leaders from political stages, to public service, and all the way to church platforms that these terms are commonly used but uncommonly practiced. Part of the reason that integrity and honesty are practiced less than they are preached is arguably due to the assumption that everyone understands what integrity and honesty truly are. Most leadership books have a paragraph or two, and possibly even a chapter, on the concept of integrity. Let's Be Honest, however, is a detailed discussion on what true radical integrity looks like.
Jeremy Gove takes a deep dive into the deepest meanings of integrity and honesty and challenges the reader to pursue integrity with relentless fervor. Gove explores honesty through the lens of the acronym BASIC: Brokenness, Accuracy, Steadfastness (faithfulness), Integrity, and Accountability. An easy to follow read.
Rooted in Biblical principles and solid exegesis, Let's Be Honest is a detailed look into a sometime's elusive concept. Using engaging and thought provoking illustrations, Gove captivates the reader and paints a clear picture with practical application that anyone can understand and begin putting to practice. The end of the book has thought provoking discussion guides that can be utilized effectively in a small group setting.
An excellent, quick read that should be mandatory for all Christian leaders.
“Honesty is truth from start to end” Let’s Be Honest is a great study on what it should mean to be honest. Gove uses an easy to remember acronym throughout the book to explain that honesty is deeper than simply telling the truth and it flows into more than just the words that we speak. Chapter 2 was easily my favorite chapter and is something I think every person needs to know. The quick and relatable topics of the chapters, and the provided small group questions in the back of the book make it a great option for small groups, or class, discussions.
This book made me ask myself a lot of questions. It was convicting, and enlightening. I learned more about the biblical view on Honesty and what it means to truly live it out. I am excited to use this book as a resource for our youth group, and young adults in our church! It's valuable information, and written in an easy to read layout great for youth and adults alike. It has great study questions in the back of the book to help connect the application. Excited to have found this book and I highly recommend it!
This is an amazing read. This book has challenged the way I think, they way I look at certain situations that may rise in life. It has caused me to look at how honest I have been with myself and have I been ok with settling for 99% instead of striving for 100%. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You will not be disappointed.
As a young minister this book will forever be in my arsenal. This book is a great book if you’re looking to figure out how to walk a real walk with Christ. Thank you Jeremy for putting this out there!
Jeremy Gove’s “Let’s Be Honest” is an insightful look into what biblical integrity is. Gove shares stories and scriptures that connect the reader with an encompassing definition of truth and honesty. His writing captures the reader. The book is both easy to read and deserving of meditation and reflection. So, the question becomes, “Do I read it quickly because it is hard to put down, or do I read it slowly to allow for introspection?” That is, of course, up to the reader. The important thing to know is that it is imperative that every Christian read this book!
I really enjoyed the book. I should say that I was given the book in exchange for an honest review. My stance is that it is written very concisely and clearly. It is simple enough to use in small group settings for the young in moral living and it is also deep enough for those who has lived a good life and need encouragement to grow even further in this area. This is the kind of reading that challenges you to be a better person. I appreciated the clear citations and commitment to accuracy. Having just finished a philosophy course at a university in my area, I felt as though I wanted to read each sentence with a critical eye. I forced myself to ask questions regarding the claims of the author. Each time, I found that he would address those questions with well thought out answers. I believe this leaves the reader with a sense of confidence in the authors writing. I will be purchasing a copy for one of the young adults in our church who is going into her junior year this year. Appreciate the authors dedication to biblical truth.
1. To be upfront, I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
2. I do not personally know the author. Although, we are members of the same denomination.
Review:
This is an excellent book. The author has taken the time to research his material, and has supplied supporting references to all quoted material.
It is written at a level that could be used by either youth groups or adult Bible study groups.
I do however, recommend that anyone who wants to improve their walk with God should read this book. It's an excellent reminder that we should live our lives honest and upright manner.
I really enjoyed the spot on historical examples.
Whether you are looking for something to use for a Bible study group, or personal spiritual growth. I recommend this book.
This book makes you look within your heart. To be honest in our thoughts. In our heart. To yourself, God and man. It will bring you to some deep repentance in areas of weakness in being honest in our lives. Written well.
This is subject i turned on myself a few years back. I had to ask myself a lot of hard questions. This book helped me with this continual journey of being honest with myself
I was honored to write the forward for the book Let’s Be Honest by my friend Jeremy Gove. Rest assured, this is not a trivial subject. In fact, honesty is likely one of the most overlooked and underemphasized aspects of holiness. Jeremy has done a masterful job of weaving the concepts of honesty, truth, righteousness, and holiness into a single tapestry that is comprehensible in a tangible way.
This book isn’t heavy-handed or condescending, but it is firm and gently convicting. The beginning of each chapter will capture your attention and keep you engaged. Jeremy has a unique capacity to render complicated subjects down into easily understood nuggets of knowledge. Making this book helpful and engrossing for practically every age group. Elders and youth alike will be edified by this work.
Jeremy is a talented and thoughtful writer. And, I consider him a spiritual thought leader. He works and ministers with excellence and pays close attention to detail. However, what makes him eminently qualified to produce a book on the topic of honesty is his own intrepid integrity. His own noble character gives him the credibility to create this needed resource.
So, read this with your family. Give it to your friends. Give copies to your leadership team. Utilize it in your small group. Walk through it in your student gatherings. And, don’t forget to let it speak to your heart too!
