Gansett Island #19

Trouble After Dark

Rate this book
The last place in the world he wants to be is on Gansett Island…

Deacon Taylor stepped up for a friend and got himself thrown in jail, and when he’s given a choice of felony charges or leaving town with his police chief brother Blaine, he chooses the latter, consigning himself to a summer under his annoying older brother’s supervision.

Julia Lawry used the last of her resources to come to Gansett for her sister Katie’s wedding and has no idea how she’s going to get back to Texas to clean up the mess she left behind. Another relationship has ended in dramatic fashion, and she’s put herself on a “dick diet,” swearing off men who use and discard her.

When Deacon talks Julia into taking off with him during her sister’s wedding, neither of them can know how that wild ride on his motorcycle will be the start of the most important journey either of them will ever take.

Another summer on Gansett Island is heating up, and love is in the air!

Santa is filling the Christmas stockings with the latest installment in the ever-so-popular Gansett Island Series by Marie Force. And what a delightful treat it is!

Trouble comes calling -- and it's Blaine Taylor's younger brother, Deacon, who packs the punch when Sheriff Taylor drags Deacon back our favorite island.

Julia Lawry's life has hit the skids. And her self-imposed "diet" doesn't stand a chance with the calories Deacon has in mind for her. Readers are going to love every second shared between these two. This might be one of my top favs from this beloved series.

Make a reservation now and take a ride on the wild side this Christmas Eve as Deacon Taylor revs up the action and romance on Gansett Island. You won't be disappointed!

Gansett Island ist einfach wundervoll und klingt nach Urlaub. Jedes Mal kehre ich wieder gerne zurück. Die Protagonisten werden immer mehr, denn man lernt immer neue Leute kennen. Wundervoll.

5 Star Review of Trouble After Dark (Gansett Island #19) by Marie Force

This is Deacon Taylor and Julia Lawry’s story and one that drew me in I immediately and kept me I’m Estes from the first to he last chapter.

I have a new book boyfriend; there was nothing that I would change about Deacon. He is totally swoon worth, a bit of a bad boy with a heart of gold and ticked all the boxes for me.

Julia, what a woman.; there were times that my heart just about broke for her with everything she has been through. Ms. Force tackled some serious issues with care and dignity and I appreciated how she handled them.

There were times I must admit, that Blaine’s attitude towards Deacon really annoyed me, it fact I wanted to punch him out.
This was a sweet, funny and wonderful love story that was at times a roller coaster for the emotions. I really loved the friendship that evolved between Deacon and Julia and in turn it added such a deeper connection to their love story.

It is always great to read a new story about Gansett Island, it’s like coming home to your family as you get to catch up with what is going on in all their lives.

This book as with others in the series was an extremely well written, sweet, sexy and romantic book. A fantastic addition to the series and the narration by Joan Delaware added to my listening pleasure. Although, having said that I do think that a male narrator for the men would really have another layer, but then that is just my opinion.

I always find trips to Gansett Island charming, entertaining, and delightful, and this one was no different. As Owen and Katie's sister Julia and Blaine's trouble maker brother Deacon take centre stage. In what was a sweet, funny and enthralling story. That had lots going on including an utterly engaging romance, surprise weddings, anxiety attacks, and a regular McCarthy baby boom, and it's safe to say, I was hooked throughout, and can't wait for my next visit in 2020!!

Would definitely recommend.

A Fateful Homecoming

Deacon was dreading having to spend the summer on Gansett Island until he spotted Julia at her sister's wedding that he was crashing. That was the beginning of a beautiful adventure between them. I loved this book so much not only for Julia and Deacon's story but the way you catch us up on so many of our other favorite couples and what they are up to. It was great returning to Gansett and meeting up with our friends again💗

Deacon Taylor has been forced into a summer back on Gansette Island after helping a friend that ended in a bar fight and possible charges. His brother Blaine bails him out yet again after bailing him out of scrapes during his teen years. Blaine is done with Deacon and it shows in how he treats his brother.

Julia Lawry came to Gansette for her twin sister wedding but what no one knew was that she was broke and broken down. Julia see Deacon first at the clinic when Fin and Chole were there and then when he crashes Shane and Katie's wedding. There is just something about the sad and vulnerable Julia that draws her to him.

Julia is afraid to trust men after what is what a repeated pattern in her life. She swears off of men and their anatomy but Deacon just might be the man that she needs to help her her heart and her soul. She has issues that rear their ugly heads at times of stress. Everyone is worried about her.

This story is sweet and Deacon and Julia are wonderful together. Julia is strong after having gone through her tormented childhood but she didn't come away unscathed. Deacon sees her for who she really is and not just the beauty she is on the outside. Although Deacon doesn't want an entanglement anymore than Julia does. Her mom, Sarah, steers them towards each other because she has a huge respect for Blaine Taylor and Deacon is a Taylor after all, even if his brother doesn't see him that way. He has the protective gene that Blaine has. Deacon seems to know what Julia needs and little by little he shows her how trust and real love can affect and help heal a wounded soul.

Cindy Lawry has also moved to Gansette so I wonder if her story will be far away, perhaps she and Linc from Jenny and Alex's story will hit it off. Hmm.

Loved this story and the fact that the characters are not perfect, they are flawed and Ms. Force does her research when writing about social issues. I can't wait to find out what happens next on the Island as it seems like half the Island is pregnant!

It’s not kidnapping if the bridesmaid comes willingly

Julia and Deacon story is one that really touches the heart. Julia had such a horrible childhood, she’s the third of the Lawrey siblings and just as with Owen and Katie she was abused by their father, but hers was emotional abuse, unlike Owens physical abuse. Unlike Katie, Julia looked for love in all the wrong places and is unemployed and homeless.

Deacon is pretty much looking for a place to set up, he’s lost his original job as a cop, and unfortunately big brother Blaine had to save his bacon when he got into a fight saving damsel in distress, although Blaine doesn’t bother to listen.

As with all the Gansett Island stories, these to have to overcome their pasts as well as find their futures, and see if they can walk them together. Watching Julia try to work her way through her issues is really eye-opening, the emotional abuse she suffered is heartbreaking, and the way Marie Force shows the effects of the abuse pulls at your heartstrings. Julia is so multifaceted, and you can see that there isn’t a simple answer or fix it for her problems, she has to work through her issues.

At the same time, while Deacon’s issues with Blaine are not as earthshaking, they are not put on the back burner, and they work on those as well.

Characters and family, the emotions that they can pull out of you, are so central to this series, and once again it’s another winner.

I just finished reading this for the second time and I loved it as much if not more because I read the whole series before reading this. LOVE!

I absolutely love the Gansett Island series and this new book is a definite favorite of the series. In this latest book, we are introduced to Deacon who is Blaine's brother, as well as Julia, which is Owen and Katie's sister. Deacon has been forced to come to the island by Blaine after getting in trouble with the law. It's definitely not what I thought there and I was so glad of that. I literally LOVE Deacon and I was just rooting for him the whole time.

Julia is on the island for her sister Katie's wedding. Julia has had a rough time in life and especially lately in a relationship. Deacon steps in to help her out and even though she tries to resist him, she realizes that he's different.

I started it yesterday and I absolutely HATING stopping it this morning at 3:30 but I knew my son would be up early with Christmas Day but I immediately picked it up after opening presents this morning. I absolutely loved this book and it's a great Christmas present to me from Marie because we get an amazing story with Deacon and Julia but we also get to hear from some of our other favorite couples on Gansett - Blaine and Tiffany, Mac & Maddie and so many others. I can't wait for June when we can finally get Mason's story.

They had a baby....and he hadn't even kissed her yet!

Being able to visit Gansett Island on Christmas Day was such a lovely Christmas gift from Ms Force!
Not only do we get to catch up with all our favourite Island residents but we get to meet two amazing new Islanders. Deacon is fantastic! He melted my heart so many times as he falls for Julia, he is hilarious, with an amazing personality and a number of lines will have you handing your heart over willingly. He may appear to be Blaine's opposite but they are both growly, Alpha protectors...hot, sexy, dirty protectors!
Julia is amazing, she may be reeling from a bad break up, losing her job and be emotionally fragile but she is not totally broken, she just has a suitcase full of drama! Determined to put her life back together and build herself a future, it is a pleasure to see her grow and flourish under Deacon's love and care.
As usual this visit to Gansett is packed full of drama, love, interfering relatives, surprises, babies, puppies and more! I loved it!

Trouble After Dark

It's always good to come to Gansett to read about what is happening on the island. This book is Julia and Deacon story. Julia is Katie twin who is getting married to Shane McCarthy. Julia is happy for her sister but her own life is a disaster with being broke, jobless, homeless at the moment, and her choices in men. She meets Deacon when she needed a break from the wedding and takes off on his motorcycle. Deacon is forced to the island when he ended up in jail that his brother had to get him out of (of course Blaine would say). He didn't know he would be kidnapping a bridesmaid from a wedding that would change his life. Julia has made it clear to him that she is on a "dick diet" so they agree to be friends but can she keep that promise to herself with him always around. Also can she control her life issues ? It's good to read about of the other characters on the island with all the wedding, babies, and of course love life. Can't wait for more !!!

Puppy rescues, anxiety attacks, friendships, weddings, new born babies, beautiful music, family and more make the return to Gansett even better than normal. Deacon and Julia are the new couple and they have some great laughter over “diets”, some serious moments over family backgrounds and some beautiful moments were they begin to trust and love.

Through their relationship we also visit with many Gansett favorite such as Tiffany & Blaine, Mac & Maddie, Evan, Stephanie, and more. I missed having Ned’s wisdom shared in this story, but I loved how we saw Sarah impart wisdom and knowledge to her daughter about taking risks and finding that true love.

I love this series and am so glad I finally started and then binged this series this year! Can’t wait for the next story♥️

I always like going back and learning what everyone on the Island is doing.
This book will grab your heart from the very beginning.
Deacon is such a sweetheart and realizes when he meets Julia that she is different from others and a bit messed up.
Deacon is the brother of Blaine the Police Chief. Julia is the sister of Owen and she came to the island to be in her twin sister's wedding. She is also gun shy of men because she has been taken advantage of too many times.
Deacon takes an interest in and a liking of Julia. She in turn tries to keep her distance, but the heart always wins.
Each book in this series is different but somehow always brings everyone into play. It just keeps you coming back so you can learn more about everyone.
I highly recommend another great read!!

Trouble After Dark was a really fun story! As always, I love coming home to Gansett Island. With every single book and new characters, I fall more in love with this series. I really adored Deacon and Julia. He had a hint of a bad boy in him, yet he was the stable and steadfast force that Julia needed. She has gone through so much in her life, at the hands of horrible men. So, I could understand her ‘man diet’ and reluctance to get into a new relationship. It turned out that she just needed the right man, which Deacon fit the role perfectly. I really enjoyed their journey together. All of the extra goodness with our favorite Gansett characters was icing on the cake. Loved every word!

Trouble after Dark it’s the 21st book in the Gansette island series. Let me tell you about traveling back to Gansette and meeting up with our old Friends the MacCarthys’, Taylor’s, Lawrys’ and so many more. It’s like going home after a long school year. The story of Deacon and Julia reminds me of the bad boy and a damsel in distress, but in reality it’s the story of two people trying to find their way in a real big world. I’ll be honest two of my favorite characters in this series have always been Blaine and Tiffany Taylor. To now bring Deacon into the mix has made me love the Taylor boys more. It is a well written and excellent book one that lets you come ho,e and beg for more.

Ms Force continuous addition to her Gansett series is always like coming back home to friends and families. In this story Blaine the police captain brother Deacon has returned home after Blaine bailed him out of after getting arrested. Julie Lawry has come to Gansett island for her sister's Katie wedding with her life in shambles she just found her ex boyfriend had another woman all along and he swindled money out of her after saying his mother was sick. Julie feeling down steps away from her sisters wedding with Deacon whisking her way. So begins there relationship. As always we catch up with past couples and of course the first couple who started it all Mac and Maddie.

WOW! ❤ Another great love story from Gansett Island

Deacon came to Gansett with a chip on his shoulder , but when he saw Julia at her sister's wedding, he knew she was something different. Julia was coming off a bad relationship, and had a lot of baggage. But Deacon worked hard to knock down her objections, until she started to trust him. And from there their love blooms! We see a large cast of characters from Gansett, along with Slim and Erin's wedding and the birth of Mac and Maddie's twins! And we can't forget the birth of Kevin and Chelsea's baby. Very action packed! I highly recommend! ❤❤❤

Add another hit to the Gansett Island Series. I totally feel like this could be a Netflix program. I just love reading this series. There is never a dull moment. I love reading about new couples coming together. Deacon and Julia are no different. Marie's writing style just causes you to keep reading until the final page. I'd honestly say don't read this unless you have read the others, but if this is where you start then I just know you'll want to go back to read the ones before this one. Dual Point of view. No cliffhangers, but I sure can't wait until the next book.

Marie Force takes you on adventures with her stories, and this book is no exception. Not only do you get to travel back to Gansett Island with old friends, but you meet new ones with unique stories. She makes you feel like you're part of everything that goes on there and makes you fall I love with her characters. I loved this book and the story and so will you!

Idk...maybe this formula is grating on me. I liked this one (especially Deacon) but didn’t love it. The music came out of nowhere. The tattoos were kinda cute/meaningful but idk. This one was lacking for me. Maybe the universe on Gansett is finally too big? (Especially since everyone has at least 10 kids and this could go on endlessly and are there NO gay people on that island? Only single gorgeous rich heterosexuals? Again, idk)

I find that I have a weird relationship with this series. Elements really appeal to me... the community vibe, the inter-locking stories... at the same time, there is definitely a 'soap opera' vibe to them. I don't necessarily feel that the featured couple are featured. For me, all the tales come across as an ensemble piece more than anything else. Not that that is a negative as such... just... sometimes confusing when we jump from one couple to another paragraph to paragraph...

Trouble After Dark! Marie Force has done it again! I am just amazed how she writes the characters with human flaws and manages to teach us lessons in the process. I imagine dealing with child abuse and eating disorders is not an easy thing, and yet, the stories are just so readable and I loved every second of this one!

A much anticipated- and much needed-addition to the Gansett series. Deacon and Julia are SO right for each other, and while their journey is definitely what the book is about, we also get to visit with island favorites, including Owen and Laura, and Mac and Maddie. Another A+ for this series!
