"Intense...I highly recommend reading this entire series &I look forward to more from this author."  --Reviews from the Hear t
Book 2 in the Crossing Realms series ~ Sacrifice or salvation? A chosen psychic few may be both. As Keepers battle Betrayers to save the human race, all's not fair in love and war.

Hellbent on avenging his own death, former Keeper Dev Geary eagerly accepts when the Watchers task him with returning to the human realm to discover the secret for rendering Similitude--the very thing that killed him.

But to succeed in the seven days he's been granted, he'll need to work with the one human who wants nothing to do with him, and who he can't help falling for--Meda Gabriel, a cagey, street-smart bar owner with a unique skill set and, maybe, the key to his mission.

With the clock ticking and the Betrayers barely a step behind, can Dev conquer his demons and find the answers the clan so desperately needs, with Meda at his side? Can love find a way, or will he be forced to abandon her and the clan, leaving them all to face imminent destruction?

The Keepers are meant to help out humans whenever they can and often come to the rescue of those in danger when they receive transmissions from the Watchers from another realm. Humans have no memory of a Keeper when coming in contact with one but when not protecting humans the Keepers are normal hardworking members of society.

Keeper Dev Geary wants to avenge his own death so he eagerly accepts a task from the Watchers to return to the human realm to discover the secret for rendering Similitude, the very thing that killed him. Dev's been granted seven days in the human realm and will need to convince Meda Gabriel, a human who wants nothing to do with him to work with him to stop the Betrayers.

The Watcher is the second book in the Crossing Realms series by Rebecca E. Neely. While the book does pick up the action after the ending of the first book in the series it could also possibly be read as a standalone since the characters featured in each book have changed, the story is explained well enough that it may not be necessary to have read the first. The series is a bit of a mix of paranormal fantasy with a bit of romance thrown into it so we have an new couple involved in the second book but the first are mentioned a bit.

For me I think I enjoyed the first book a tad more than the second in this series basically because with starting over with new characters the story spends a lot of time with Dev explaining things to Meda, the same that we had in the first story. I think I would've been a bit happier with just picking up the action and excitement after the ending of the first book but instead I felt it go a bit slower than I would have liked while getting to know the new couple which is a rarity for a fantasy series.

Overall, 3.5 stars for this installment of the Crossing Realms series. Still an interesting world that has been created and will be interested to continue reading if the series continues but would have liked more action after the exciting ending to book one.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I had enjoyed reading the first novel in this series, 'The Keeper' and really looked forward to this sequel continuing this very different series. The idea of avenging his own untimely demise is what motivates former Keeper, Dev Geary, to agree to return to the human realm seeking the secret of how to create Similitude which was used by the Betrayers to kill him. He only has seven days in which to succeed. He re-connects with his friends who are now a couple then seeks Meda Gabriel, the human he has been told he will need to work with. The only problem is that she initially wants nothing to do with him, His usual techniques won't work with her, so he'll have to rethink his strategies. She can't read him and is very wary . . . As the Betrayers close in, can Dev convince Meda to work with him? If he can't then the clan will face destruction - and he still only has the seven days to prevent that!

This is another action packed story, with many of the characters from 'The Keeper' involved in this continuing saga. I actually re-read the first book to help remind me about what had happened in that book so really think it is important to read the books in sequence as I don't think it will work as a standalone. I'm trying not to reveal any spoilers for people who have still to read the first book in the series, so please forgive my vagueness about some aspects of it! The characters are well developed, the plot fast paced with plenty of surprises and drama en route and together it is a real page turner. If you enjoy reading stories where good v evil and travel between different realms is necessary to save humanity, this is one of the best. Take a look at it to discover how childhood fears, guilt, angst and love all have a role to play in this - as do pink Sno Balls!

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this for me to read without any obligation. This is my honest review.

Dev Geary was a former Keeper, a man who keeps humans safe without them ever knowing that they exist. Humans can see Keepers and interact with them but once they leave it is like the Keeper has been wiped from their minds. Now I said that Dev was a Keeper, the past tense, well he was killed by Similitude but the Watchers, more good guys, have granted him 7 days to discover the secret of the thing that killed him. He is certainly revved up and ready to go but, to accomplish his mission he must work with a human woman, Meda and well she isn’t the easiest person in the world to get on with.
Meda is the most reluctant companion for Dev to succeed, especially as the betrayers are closing in. If they win this battle it will be more than just the death of Dev at stake. I really like Meda, an intelligent woman who is so very independent but the more she pushes away the more Dev falls for her. This wasn’t the plan! This is one super kick ass action read and love story all rolled into one.
A brilliant pace is set in the story with an urgency of time running out in every possible way. These are characters that I felt passionate about. A great second in the series read!

This book is the second book in the Crossing Realms series. This series is shaping up well. I really enjoyed how these books flow smoothly together. Dev Geary is a great character and this book comes alive for me. I can't wait for the next book in the series! We know have a been idea of what the Keeper, Watcher and a Betrayer are now. There are all kinds of great characters in this book. I think this is an exciting series so far and I can't wait for more. * I received this book from the author---this is my honest review*

The Watcher is the 2nd book in the Crossing Realms series. Told in 3rd person, this is Dev Greary’s story and oh boy was it a good one. Brought back from death, Dev has 7 days to convince Meda Gabriel, a woman with the power to read minds, to help Dev in his mission. He has to outwit Abel, Haenous’s son and now the leader of the Betrayers, while trying to figure out how to keep them from making more Similitude and keeping the Betrayers from destroying not only Earth but the realm that the Watchers are from.

I will be honest, Dev annoyed me. He had such a huge chip on his shoulder about repaying a debt to Nick. He took unnecessary risks and one day it caught up to him and he was killed. Even as a Watcher in Training, he took those same type of risks. Like the beginning scene where he was climbing the mountain and was standing over the edge of the ravine while it was crumbling. But, the more I got to know him, the more it made sense he was taking these risks. I also could see why The Watchers chose him to carry out the mission.

Meda was a little harder to get a handle on in the beginning but as the author started to reveal what made her tick, I could see why she shut herself off from people. When she talked about how she got the scar on her face, I wanted to bawl (ok, I might have cried a bit). I liked that she took no crap from Dev. I really think that he needed someone in his life-like that before he died. Just saying. What I also really liked is that the author chose to include Native American mythology when they were making Flint. I thought that little myth was very interesting and it totally went with the story (click here for the legend of Flint).

The romance between Meda and Dev wasn’t a slow burn. It couldn’t be, seeing that he had only 7 days to do what he had to do. It was explosive and I loved it. Sometimes life doesn’t have time for a slow burn romance. The sex scenes between Meda and Dev were intense and off the page sizzling.

Now, I am going to do something I barely do but I have to talk about Abel, the Broodmaster of the Betrayers.

All I have to say is wow. He to be Amazon PC, he is not a very nice guy and was determined to follow in Haenous’s footsteps. I did feel for him though, because it seemed like his father abused him (big flag to me was when he was starved by his father energywise) and he was always picked on by the other children because he always wore sweaters, even in the summer, because he was always cold. He felt that he couldn’t love Magpie (even though she was completely head over heels in love with him) and he wanted to destroy his niece, Jordan, who he considered a half-breed.

But any feelings of being sad for him were wiped in the last couple of chapters of the book. All I have to say is that I hope he gets what is coming for him. And poor Magpie. I wanted to cry for her. She didn’t seem inherently bad…..just following orders from her Master. I also felt awful for Jordan.

While Dev and Meda’s storyline were kinda wrapped up (I have a feeling that something that Meda said couldn’t happen has happened), the main storyline wasn’t and it looks like it is just revving up.

How many stars will I give The Watcher: 4

Why: This was an action packed romance right from the get go. The characters were a bit prickly to read and I honestly thought Dev was annoying in the beginning, but they grew on me and I grew to love them. The storyline was fantastic and I can’t wait for Book 3 (Curtis and Jordan’s story???) to come out.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Sex, language, violence

More time with Dev! Neely has wowed me again!

I’m always up for a good romance, but I must admit, paranormal/fantasty/sci-fi are not my first choice. I always fear that I won’t be able to understand the alternate words and difficult names the stories usually have. I just don’t want to have to keep notes and reread to follow along. I took a chance and read The Keeper (the first in this series), and was so pleasantly surprised that I was all up for reading this one.

Good decision!

Dev is sent back to Earth to locate Meda, who’s father was an accomplished scientist. Although he was considered “weird” to humans, Meda’s father’s work is very beneficial to the Watchers and Keepers, and unfortunately, the Betrayers. Meda has her own unique abilities that work well in accord with the Keepers’ abilities, and her and Dev’s joining becomes more than just a way to save the realms. They save each other. Their immediate physical attraction isn’t what makes them a couple to root for. It’s emotional and mental connection. Their strength, determination, and intelligence that makes them remarkable individual characters. I love them both.

Abel is still up to no good, not surprising, but even he has his secrets that surprised me, although he’s still as evil as ever. It was pleasant to revisit Nick and Libby (the MC’s from The Keeper), as well as the other characters.

Meda is human, not part human like Libby, so I was very anxious to discover the events that would pave the way for her and Dev to be together. If you’d like to know, read the book. No spoilers here. 🙂 I will tell you this, it’s worth the time investment.

There’s a lot of science-y stuff that made me blink a few times. This says nothing negative about the writing, but about personal preferences. Surprising to say, I felt a little smarter when I was done, and the best part was I hadn’t felt bored. Not that learning is boring, mind you, but my fiction is about about entertainment. Kudos to Neely for firing up my brain cells without making me want to close the book…not that I’ll remember it in a few days, but hey, I was able to follow the story. I admire the loyalty between the clan members. They’re dedication and unwavering strength and support. I couldn’t help but to love them all.

I do like the cliffhanger without being a cliffhanger. In other words, we get our HFN with Dev and Meda, but there’s still more to come, and not just on the romantic front.

Just like with The Keeper, I really like the heavenly connotations- the Watchers (like angels), the Keepers (guardian angels sent to Earth).

I can’t promise that I’ll become a die-hard paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi fan, but I am now a Neely fan.

This is a continuation of the story in “The Keeper”. Libby defeated Haenus of the Betrayers. Mount Verdant is safe and the Watcher’s Realm is healing itself slowly. This is Dev’s story. He was raised by Nick’s family after his parents died. They were devastated when Haenus killed him. He is now in the Watcher’s Realm. Without his help, Libby would have failed. His family didn’t know he lived in that Realm.

Dev was dissatisfied with his lot in life/death. He wanted to be back on Earth. He was a rebel with a death wish. The Elders however have a special purpose for him. He is given seven days to return to Earth and complete a task that could hopefully save them all. Dev must find and convince Meda/Mia, that she is also a key to saving humanity.

Meda/Mia’s father was a scientist working on the idea that energy could be converted and stored in something for future use. If he hadn’t died, he might have been the one Dev was looking for. However, this all fell on Meda/Mia now. Once Dev finds her, he must get her back to Chicago to a secret warehouse where they can work. What they are looking for is a way to reproduce the anti-magic stone that the Betrayers still are using. Onto a motorcycle, a mad dash across the country along with attempts on their lives drives them forward. Once in Chicago, they go to the warehouse but are soon discovered.

Again, a “can’t put it down thriller.” Twists and turns and love and magic are the perfect combination.

This is the second book in the Crossing Realms Series and is the story of Dev Greary who is brought back to life. Dev goes back to earth to uncover the secret of the thing that killed him. He meets up with Meda who has a gift for reading minds and begs her to help him. With only seven days they must work fast. A good sci-fi with lots of action, suspense and romance. I received an arc and voluntarily chose to review this book.

I received an ARC from the author and have chosen to review it. The Watcher is the second book in the Crossing Realms series and it features Dev Geary who you meet in the first book of the series The Keeper. I liked how this book takes place not longer after the ending of the first book and it continues with the same problems that they previously had. Also in this book not only do you get to see some new characters that you get to fall in love with you will also see some of the one’s that you previously fell in love with in the first book. I really enjoyed getting to see these characters come together and see how they would handle some tough situations. I absolutely love Meda and Dev together and I was so worried about how there ending would come about, but I didn’t need to worry because it all worked out in the end. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinion stated are solely my own and no one else's*

This was a great read and I really enjoyed it. It's fast paced, action packed, and full of surprises that will eagerly keep you flipping through the pages. I have to admit, I haven't read the first book and felt a little lost in beginning however, I got the general idea of what had transpired in the first book.

This is the second book of the series and it is very good. This is a sci-fi/romance with touches of Native American Mythology. I think to fully appreciate this well-written storyline Book 1, The Keeper should be read first. The characters are developed and relatable. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

The Watcher is the second book in the Crossing Realms series, and focuses on Dev Geary, who actually died in the first book! I would say that it is definitely important to read this as a serial, rather than a series of standalones. This does not stand alone and even though I have read Book 1, it still took me a while to remember what had gone on and with whom in The Keeper.

It is action-packed, full of new characters that have a story to tell. Dev has a job to do, and only a limited amount of time to do it in. This certainly doesn't involve the person he is there to find! Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, this book was smoothly paced. It finished off Dev's story whilst still leading on nicely to the next one. So long as you read in sequence, I would definitely recommend this book/series.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *
