This Marathi play by Shanta Gokhale is an intense family drama in which the tensions between various members of a middle-class family escalate to a tragic climax. Avinash, invisible throughout, is yet the central presence in the drama. His flawed existence (he is a depressive alcoholic), and his mysterious death trigger off harsh inter-personal conflicts in the rest of the family. The plot unfolds at a relentless pace over a tight span of twenty-four hours. It is only at the end that the hope of a new life promises a ray of light for the morrow.
