Excellent support for Golding's novel "The Lord of the Flies". It contains information on the life of the author, a synopsis and analysis of each chapter, character analyses, and essays on the main themes. Helped me immensely with some symbolism I missed as well as helping the reader to appreciate the structure and writing of the book.

Beyond Comprehensive

Love the format and easy-to-digest portions of information. This will really help my 9th grader get through Lord of the Flies.

Quotes
Lord of the Flies explores the dark side of humanity, the savagery that underlies even the most civilized human beings. (10)

Little does [Jack] realize he himself is fulfilling the role of the beast. (53)

Jack stole not only Piggy's glasses, but also hope, rescue, Simon's life, Ralph's authority, and the vestiges of civilization from their small island culture. (69)

Evil has triumphed: Spirituality, creativity, and religion went with the demise of Simon; intellect and reason die with Piggy; and rules, authority, and tradition are destroyed with the conch. (70)

How to write a book report in four hours. Step one: go to large book store chain outlet. Step two: read this book while pretending to browse. Step three: replace this book on shelf and buy a book by an author you like. Step four: go home. Step five: turn on computer and press the buttons with letters on them (otherwise known as a keyboard). Step five: hand in book report (and this is key) with a neutral smile at teacher that says: "yes I did not read the book, and you can probably tell from this book report, but I want you to know that I know that you know..."

I reserved this book because I was going to see the show at Round House Theatre and had never read the book. I glanced through it and got an idea of the story before seeing the show. Now I don't think I will read it.

If looking to take a critical look at books: read Cliffsnotes. If wanting to read for fun: do not read Cliffsnotes.
