Tanner Family #5

Through & Through

I didn’t have a rule against kissing a guy while on vacation. That was why I just let it happen with Jordan Tanner. Maybe it was a rash decision since he was my best friend’s brother-in-law, but I could hardly blame myself. He was a basketball star, and he was strikingly handsome, so I did what any woman in my position would have done. I kissed him.

It was just a kiss. Sure, it was amazing, but I thought I could leave it at just that. I thought I could go back to my life in Nashville and forget all about him.

This is the story of how that didn't happen.

BSJ is one of my top 5 authors. I stalk her when she's "due" for another new release. Thank goodness she writes extremely fast because we're never waiting that long (although I'd never be opposed to a weekly release!!!). There is just something so sweet, innocent and refreshing about her writing style. Her characters are real and very easy to connect with no matter what circumstance they are dealing with. I love the Tanner/Wilde family and I'm looking forward to Book 6. Every single one of her books is a 5 star read for me!

A good book for bakers and any who love bread. I am a bread fanatic like Mica. There really is some special happiness you get when kneading bread and and it reaches that perfect stage when the gluten has set up. So to read about it and know that other people experience that same happiness was cool. I loved all the bread dialogue and the Billy Joel bread! So great! Very good love story, minimal conflict. It meets the high stand of writing that I have come to expect from this writer.
I’m already looking forward to the next one in the series!

A fun, sweet read

Brooke St. James writes another winner in the fifth book in her Tanner Family series. This time, Jordan Tanner is in the spotlight. The younger of Ezekiel and Rhonda's sons, Jordan is a star basketball player in his senior year at the University of Kentucky. He also has a tremendous appetite and a great appreciation for those who prepare it for him. Mica Cooper, a pastry chef friend of Allison (his older brother Zeke's wife from Mischief & Mayhem) and expert bread maker.

Mica has escaped from a relationship with a manipulative narcissist and wannabe country singer. Jordan falls for Mica's bread first but then falls for the whole woman. Basketball games and ex-boyfriend avoidance ensues.

I'm a reluctant Brooke St. James fan; I thoroughly enjoy reading a romance that doesn't force me to put on my mental filters regarding foul language and explicit sex scenes. But as a copy editor by nature and profession, I find myself getting annoyed by the clunky writing style and especially her use of "instinctually" when "instinctively" is meant. Is "instinctually" even a word?

Overall, unrelated title aside, this is one of the best books in the series. The requisite Christian conversation ends without the specific issue being resolved, but both participants acknowledge its importance and the coolness of wondering about "deep things". A few random episodes occur, including a phone call from a famous musician and a marriage proposal by a fifth grader, but Jordan and Mica's relationship progresses without undue drama. It's an easy read, perfect for vacation or a sick day. My biggest complaint is that it's too short!

Sweet love Jordan and Mica

This is book 5 of the Tanner Family. You do not need to read the other books in the series to know what is going on but they are very good .
Mica is baker and she is visiting her best friend who os married to Jordans brother. Jordan is a college student in his final year following in his fathers foots steps going to the be a basketball star. They meet while she is making bread while listening to Billy Joel song. They share a connection but she has a boyfriend. Mica and her Bf break up and she is had a few mo ths to deal with but is still sad. She goes back to visit her friend . Jordan is excited to see her and even more excited that she is single. They spend some time talking and share an amazing kiss . The story begins from there. I love Brooke St James books because you can connect, it feels like you are there. I love the family connections as well. Very well written book I can not wait to read the next book.

St. James’ writing always throws me off. She uses third person for the male perspective and first for the female. The third person always feels very clunky and exposition heavy to me. This was not my favorite Tanner family book although I did like the characters. Some of the MC’s dialog would have been really sweet if their relationship was built on anything other that a physical relationship. Jordan is a cutie but his obsessive/possesive and overly physical nature was a turnoff. The religious aspects also didn’t seem to come from an organic space, it felt very forced and out of place.

Contains: kisses, religious references

A Lifetime of Love

I will probably enjoy the entire series of Tanner books by St. John. It's partly because of the endearing love of the family including aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. I personally enjoy the subtle Christian references and absence of sensationalism in that regard. I rank St. John right along with my favorite author, Debbie Macomber. Thank you for such good reads!

Another fun Tanner family story

Mica is a pastry chef who makes fabulous bread. She is friends with Allison who recently married into the Tanner family. She goes to her house and is making bread when Justin the college basketball player comes in. Neither were looking for anything but found it with each other after the craziness of their time together. Love the bread stories and this family. Such a cute, clean, Christian romance.

Through & Through

Another good addition to the Tanner family saga. Jordan a college basketball senior star ready to graduate and Mica a friend of his sister-in-law and a chef and baker who wins his heart with her bread.
Past, present and future through it all. The connection with the entire family and friends is very real and their faith which is very relevant to the story line great read.

This one was not as good to me as the last. I understood the ex-boyfriend's abuse thing and his hold on her. But her response drove me nuts. I'm glad she gained some guts though. I really enjoyed his love for her and I'm glad she was able to find strength from that love and her love.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been a very rare occurrence that I could just pick up a book and read it in one day; but, I was captivated by these characters and their amazing love story instantaneously.

Sweet

While the folks in this story are very young, it still is a fun read. A little different but very nice

Each book in this series just keeps getting better. Loved Jordan and Mica. It was a relationship you really don't see coming but they fit together perfectly.

Good

I enjoyed this book. I felt like tge Carter drama was pretty realistic compared to the drama in some of the other stories. Jordan and Mica are too cute together.

I liked the book. I am having trouble thinking because of my MS. He became a basketball player and they got a family.

Jordan & Mica

Jordan Tanner is smitten with his sister-in-law's best friend Mica from the first time he meets her in his parents' kitchen. But Mica has a boyfriend and probably just sees him as "Zeke's little brother." Months later, Mica is back and now she's single. Jordan is instantly flirting with Mica over bread and soon gets her alone for their first "toe-curling" kiss.

I really enjoyed Jordan's character and his youthful confidence. He is forward, flirty, and fun. He knows what (and who) he wants and doesn't hesitate. Mica is older and a more serious (but hesitant) and this creates a super cute dynamic between the two of them.

I have read all of the Tanner Family books, as well as the Bishop Family books. Through & Through is my favorite book by Brooke St James and I've read it twice. On the second reading, I skipped over the scenes with Carter (Mica's ex). Even though I think the ex adds dept and background to the story I fast-forwarded through these bits to get to the best bits (the flirting between Mica and Jordan).

I like the way the Tanner family members are interwoven throughout the series and I also like hearing from both lead characters' points of view.

I especially loved the first kiss scene (Chapter 6) and the final chapter before the epilogue (Chapter 20). I could read these parts again and again. Jordan is so much fun and totally swoon-worthy!

Cute ending, but not much action and too much ex boyfriend for me. More like 2.5.
