Dear people, with Love and Care, Your doctors by Debraj Shome and Aparna Govil Bhasker is a heart-touching story book. Few months back, I saw this book and didn't ever thought that this book would have my heart. There are 34 heart whelming stories penned on different doctor-patient relationship. People praise doctors like god if they're successful in their work and blame them if they're not able to save someone's life. To blame them is not a solution, we can't even feel the pain which they feel in OT or a ward standing helplessly in front of patient just closing their eyes and bury the tears. There is a pain hidden in them for days. They, too, need warmth and empathy at that time. There is a time when doctors have to face wrong accusations. Here, as humans we have to understand that we can't blame them for such unexpected happenings. In Billions of peoples every doctor or hospital can't be trustworthy but to maintain the balance of trust, faith and hope here are some wonderful impressive stories.
The book kept me hooked from “The Dalai Lama” quote itself. As I turned the pages, content gave the new excitement and curiosity. At the beginning of every chapter there was a quote and at the end there was little information about doctor, do you know? And website link. These points made the every part more interesting. The writing style was flawless. The cover and the title matched the whole concept. Every story was awe-inspiring, remarkable and interesting. There was love and hope poured in the form of words.
Authors thought behind this non-fiction book was damn amazing. Kudos to them for bringing up such unique concept. Overall, it was a stunning read. I would recommend this book to everyone.
" Dear People, with Love and Care, Your Doctors " is a piece of non-fiction that is meant to be read by all. As the name suggests, the book is like an open letter written by the doctors to everyone alike, only it consists of thirty four letters straight from the heart of our saviors.
The first thing you need to keep in mind when you pick up the book is " DOCTORS ARE HUMANS TOO".It is one profession that is taken for granted all over the world and we almost in all the cases expect a success from them. Be it a major case of a transplant, a serious operation or a minor sickness we always tend to see a positive outcome. But what goes in the minds of doctors with all the pressure heaped upon them? We can never even comprehend the amount of both physical and mental strain they go through, but with "DEAR PEOPLE" we can at least try to get an idea of what is -being a doctor, of being the person who balances life an death in a knife's edge.
All the letters are based on real life incidents and the letters were a fine balance that threw light on both the ups and downs of the profession. I felt it was rather bold of putting your foibles in ink.
We need to understand that "DOCTORS ARE NOT GOD", we cannot expect them to be perfect in every sense. A lot of cases have been encountered where the doctor in presence is blamed for a death or a mistreatment and and there isn't anything more inhuman than such absurd accusation. Of course every profession has their own black sheep but to put into the myopic eye such delinquents and put the whole profession "on stand" is certainly not done.
Every letter told a different tale that made me understand what being a doctor comprises of and I am grateful for it. The tiny footnotes after each chapter painted a vivid picture with statistics in the profession as a whole and they were useful too.
As the name suggest, the book is an account about Patient- Doctor relationships. The book is divided into thirty four chapters ,where different doctors has expressed their own experiences with the patients . Each story starts with unique quotation which is unique and again forces readers to think.
As the experiences are real not every story sings a happy song. Real life bitter experiences have been there too. Through the stories they have not only shared what they have experienced but also they have pointed what is wrong .
My views
Dear People, With Love and Care, your doctors - is first of all something new I read this year." Doctor" is a profession which fascinated by almost everyone. But nowadays the patient-doctor relationship is at a question and trust is not there. The stories in this book are enough to clear most of the doubts .
The stories end with a "Do you know " part which is an important note related to that particular topic and of course needless to say they are helpful, and we should be aware of them .
I think the book could be better if there were less medical terms because we the people who aren't from that background it's difficult to understand those terms .
In the times where the superheroes have stepped out into the real in form of Doctors . This is an impulse read on mine . But let me tell you this that every minute reading this book was worth it. The book is a collection of 34 stories of heartfelt doctor patient relationship and stories. These are mostly written from the doctors perspective . These stories are from various branches of medicine . The story contains a lot of empathy as it narrates the tales of the people when they are on their lowest. The book is beautifully edited and cover is simple yet attractive. I really liked the fact how the author had pains to explain important terms and fact at end of chapter for easy understanding . Overall I think it was great book and would recommend everyone to read it .
Before starting this review, I'd like to thank the author for coming up with such a great idea to educate people on how things work in a medical field, to give them an insight in the lives of health care professionals and to remind them that even though doctors have been considered akin to God, they're still very much human and have emotions and that they struggle with their emotions on a daily basis and that their duties towards their patients and people require them to suppress their emotional side and deal practically with whatever that comes in their way.
I am a medical student and even though I haven't become a doctor yet I know exactly what my job would ask of me and it scares me sometimes but after reading this book, I am even more determined and proud to be a part a world that thrives on empathy and triumph.
This book is a collection of stories that explore the relationship between doctor and patients from across the world. Every story tells us about an experience that people have been through and all these experiences talk about different emotions in a raw and real way. It doesn't just capture the stories of the doctors but also the people who are part of their life and are a part of their journey.
This book talks about faith, empathy, determination, loss and even failure which makes this book even more heartfelt.
From capturing the survival of an acid attack victim to the grief of a doctor who almost got his patient killed, this book captures the contrasting sentiments. It will make you smile, it will make you cry but most importantly, it will make you understand the lives of people with the white coats.
The writing style was easy to follow and the author did a great job in providing a vivid narration throughout the book.
This lockdown has been harsh to all of us. But there were people still working in their offices to keep the nation going. Hospitals were full of beds and tests were done at ultrafast speed. Today I am going to talk about the book which is written by doctors for us. The book gives heartfelt conversations from Doctors to their patients and also some of the stories from their career. The book is a beautiful compilation and all the stories touch your heart. The one where she had her first death. How important you think doctors are in your life? When I was in 5th standard, I was diagnosed with appendicitis and it was a heart wrecking news for a boy of that tender age. But doctors took really good care of me and I was well soon. So here is a story about doctors.
I haven't been reading a lot from last 10 days but I did finish this amazing book lately. Now, talking about the cover and the story, the book covers incidents from doctors' life and its changed perspectives. The book is a collection of short stories from different times and the different doctor-patient relationship.
The book is well versed and the way it has been created is a masterpiece. Every story connects to the heart and the narratives explained is what I could never think of. These are some real incidents which can be so good plot of the story when written in fiction. I would love to suggest this to the readers who wanna read something non-fiction but want to stick to the stories.
Dear People, with love and care, your Doctors is an ode the sacred relationship between a doctor and his patient. Over the years, this profession has been loved and hated almost equally, both sides going strong in their arguments. This book somehow blurs that line and merge both sides to help them come to a point of mutual understanding. Narrating different tales, for the first time ever, from the doctors' perspective, we are finally let in to their world and picture is not so close to what we always imagine. Doctors feel too, and every little failure is forever borne.
I think this is a great attempt to strengthen that bond of trust and friendship that should always have been there. Filled my heart with warmth, and restored my faith in this profession again. Would highly recommend it to everyone!
I couldn’t have read this book at a better time; I was sick in bed and this book made my heart so warm. Even though I am a very squeamish person, I took great delight in reading the book and all the details in the story. The doctors have written the book with great detail but they are just enough not to gross you out. One of the things that surprised me about this book was the illustrations! They make the storytelling a hundred times better and it also helped make my visualisation better. The writing style and the language style are amazing; you are fully invested in all the 34 stories. I also loved the little facts every doctor had given at the end of their stories that is so fun. This book honestly restores your faith in humanity because this is filled with intimate doctor patient encounters and it just highlights that there are good and bad encounters both.
Dear People, with Love and Care, Your Doctors edited by Debraj Shome and Aparna Govil Bhasker' is an anthology collection of thirty-four true-life experiences between a doctor and their patient. While reading this book, I kept in mind, 'It's not fiction, people have gone through it'. -- The stories are compiled in a way to draw a different perspective of Doctors towards their patient. The essential point is stories hold emotional effects on readers mind. They outline the Doctor-patient relationship in a positive manner. Although, it is often seen patient lose their calm in a critical situation, but isn't it obvious? Apart from all the stories compiled in this book, I liked the 'Did you Know?' section. It gives some factual and non-factual information about the medical field and all surprising statistics which have graphed in a long time. -- The Moral this book initiate is to keep faith in Doctors and their relationships with Patients. We often heard cases where Doctors are held responsible if something goes haywire. They're human beings as well, and we need to understand that fact. -- This book draws what human beings have done to themselves in these changing times. I liked the chapters which focused on mental health and other issues related to it. The major reason for the dysfunctionality of our health system is none other than our way of living and surroundings. -- Overall, to sum up, this book is informative, engaging, and draws our attention to a lesser-discussed topic through moving experiences from all over the nation.

Book Review : Dear People With Love and Care, Your Doctors (Heartfelt Stories About Doctor-patient Relationship) Author : Debraj Shome , Aparna Govil Bhaskar @drdebrajshome @aparnabhasker Publisher : Bloomsbury @bloomsburyindia @bloomsburypublishing Pages : 294 Pages Rate : 499 Rupees Genre : Fiction Rating : 5 stars This post I would like to dedicate to all my doctor friends to thank you for always being there. Thank you for curing us, giving us the strength to fight with our diseases and problems. @begsaman @the_charming_writrix @doctor.veena @medical.doctors We are really lucky that you people be always empathetic towards patients who find healthcare unaffordable. When you all cure your patients they think the doctors don't care for us but we are wrong. You all are more worried about the patients health and if your patients is in trouble you all get worried to try new methods how to cure them.
This book is dedicated to each one of us to the patients as they should be able to accept that doctors are treating them for a better health and for the doctors too as doctors learn by making mistakes. The book's cover has a quote from Dalai Lama " While Doctors Do their Best to save lives, It is important to accept that a successful outcome is sometimes beyond their control"
The book is based on a very easy language which appears like we are reading in a normal homely environment. There are chapters which have a unique impact on the readers. Each chapter tells us about new type of diseases and how a doctor helps and does everything to treat his patient. If the patient is not in a good health his personal life is also effected.
Now, moving towards the most important thing is " Yes she is working, No I don't know when she will be home, yes we are still married, no she is not imaginary- A Doctors husband" - C.B Bhasker This is the fact that the author has tried to lay stress upon. If we loose our near and dear ones we blame the doctors for being wrong. In India Indian society seems to expect from doctors - give all and expect very little in return. I would recommend this book to all !!
#review Book: Dear People, with Love and Care, Your Doctors Editors: Debraj Shome and Aparna Govil Bhasker Publisher: Bloomsbury India Pages: 294
Prime Idea: Recently, we have heard different cases of violence against doctors, hospital staff and infrastructure which caused a wave of huge commotion in the medical profession. This book deals with all the heartfelt emotions related to doctor-patient relationship in a narrative of different respectable doctors from India. This book is to inspire each and every one of us to take a step towards our better future and save the saviour.
My Take: This book is not just an accumulation of words, it is the story of triumph, empathy, loss and failure. I am particularly inclined towards medical profession and its dexterity as I have closely admired this field from the eyes of someone special to me and this book helped me relate everything to the daily situations and conflicts. This book turned closed to my heart given the fact that it is written with practical and real efforts.
Critique: Although I loved the book, but I cannot deny the fact that doctors should also support and guide each other in their fraternity. There are some stories which mention a biased attitude towards this issue but yes it cannot be judged that easily given the reality that there are black sheeps in every profession.
Favourite Aspects: 👩⚕ While doctors must adhere to their duty of caring for patients, we must not forget that doctors, no matter how skilled or competent, need care too. 👨⚕The law of nature is creation and destruction. In between these two extremes is the role of medical professionals. 👩⚕Grief is not a luxury that we are granted as many more lives await our care and we have no choice but to get back to work the next morning. 👨⚕As doctors, we fight two of the fiercest enemies of mankind - disease and death, and while we may succeed in defeating disease, death is inevitable.
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟.6/5
P.S. This book is highly and humbly recommended to everyone! We must stay together in saving the saviours. Death is destined, but doctors help with ease sometimes 🌟
This book contains 34 chapters written by different doctors and patients across the globe. Their experiences with different diseases and the processes through which patients were cured . It is not simply a book but I felt they were pages containing the untold emotions of different doctors and their experiences with their patients and patients families. We all many at times misjudge the doctors thinking they are humans of such superiority who can't even commit a little mistake. But at times this prejudice itself becomes a burden for them . We often tend to forget that after all , all doctors are humans and humans do commit mistakes. "No doctor wants to harm their patient by omission or commission " said by Dr. Tejal Lathia . Yes it is true . Doctors really feel privileged when they are called as life saviour. And this life saviour goes through a lot of hard work to achieve this title . But whenever we try to defame a doctor because a surgery or medication did not went well with the patient , we never try to consider the point of view from a doctor's perspective. We slander the doctor and also highlight his name as the patient's murderer. ........ 📖 In India their is no law in protection of doctor's right , hence aften doctor's faces violation by the patient's family. Their are even records of doctors getting mobbed and even in most unfortunate situation getting lynched. ............ 📖 Therefore I feel that this is a must read book for everyone and also understand the stories from a doctor's perspective. Their are evils in every profession but that doesn't mean we will slander everyone related to it . Some of the stories in this book are really heartwarming. Their are stories about successful operations and also some failed attempts and also stories about patients who battled their diseases and now leading a happy life . 📖This book really touches your heart and once you start reading it you won't be able to put it down . The stories are beautiful, heartfelt and emotional. One must go through such beautiful book and gain positivity.
Dear people is the perfect emotional real stories between the Doctors and their patients. This book is filled with real life experiences of the doctors with their patients. Its truly a blessing to know and feel that we have a true soul that genuinely care for us even though they are not our blood. I always have great respect for the doctors as they are merely doing the job that only god can do. And after reading this book that respect had strengthened.
Their devotion towards their work is impeccable. Incase of any failures they are undergoing the same heartbreak and pain same as the patients family. And i clearly understood that the doctors are also a humanbeing at the end of the day. This book depicts different types of patients with different attitudes. Some patients are cool and calm whereas some are vulnerable. Definitely this book would be very useful for everyone.I hope we can definitely try to contact any doctors here if needed.
My voice: "Emotional,Educative n Heartbreaking" is the best 3 words to describe this book.I heart this book totally. Each and every incident was described elaborately and informatically. There were so many valuable doctor's sayings at the beginning of each chapter.
With deep faith, love, positivity, empathy, care and above all trust miracles could happen anytime. Each doctor devote themselves round the clock to save a life. This book covered the lives of eight months old baby to 70 years old.
Experience, presence of mind, timeliness and involvement altogether makes a doctor the saviour. Hats off to all the worldwide doctors, especially the ones i came across here who had saved a lot of lives despite their own crisis. I loved the Afterword and Manifesto at the end of the book even more
Every profession is admirable, but doctors are beyond imaginable💕 Genuinely written book that should be treasured always♥️♥️
Since our ancient times, the role of doctors in uplifting the mankind is evident. Doctors are a very crucial and unavoidable part of our society without which we couldn't imagine a healthy and safe life for ourselves. They have been bestowed with the honor of being the second God that is, immediate position after the Almighty. Human beings seek for the assurance of Doctors for their healthy being. Whenever we find ourselves suppressing with the weight of disease, the first name comes to our mind is of our respected doctor. In situations when we found ourselves on the verge of breaking and shattering, we still have somewhere in our hearts, a little ray of hope that our doctor would anyhow cure us. But with such immense and strong believe, comes the massive responsibilities of doctors.
'Dear People, with love and care, your doctors' is an attempt by some respected and highly qualified doctors to put forward their life experiences through this book. In this century, the most sought-after relationship of a doctor and patient is gradually weakening. The faith which they used to have for their doctors has sadly declined. Through this very book, these doctors have tried to explain their perspective in the most simplest manner. By sharing one of the remarkable incident of their life, they helped us dig into the intricacies of their life.
How they have to deal with equanimity in the worst situations, how they often face the dilemma of choosing between their patients and family members and how social media is somewhat responsible for the changed scenario. I really enjoyed reading their heart touching experiences. This book would certainly help to change the thoughts of both patients and doctors towards each other. Also the manifesto given at the last neatly explained the basic duties and rights of both patients and doctors. With a positive mimdset and deep clarity of thoughts, we would surely lead to become an ideal society.

The title of the book is apt to the content. 2) The plot is unique and amazing. In this book different stories of hope, positivity, success, failure, struggle, loss, survival etc are very well narrated by the authors. 3) The book is divided into 34 chapters and each chapter starts with a beautiful quote and ends up with 'Did you know?'. 'Did You Know' is an important part which is very knowledgeable and informative. 4) All the stories in this book are very much emotinal and inspiring which has the power to touch one's heart. 5) In this book, many technological words which are related to medical science are used but they are explained very well. 6) The language used by the authors is simple and the writing style is captivating. 7) Hats off to the doctors for writing this book about the doctor patient relationship which is so inspiring. 8) Overall, a must read. . . I highly recommend this book to all.
In my hand, I hold a compilation of journeys and accounts of hardships penned meticulously by 41 medical professionals and compiled with extreme care by Dr Debraj Shome and Dr Aparna Govil Bhaskar. Dear People incorporate in it the thoughts, emotions, feelings, stories of love, trust and faith, and words that doctors would like the world to know. In a world of ever-growing distrust in medical professionals, this book comes as hope for patients and doctors - a hope to rebuild trust once again.
The first thing I noticed about the book was the effort by the doctors to ensure the betterment of their patients. The narration was beautiful and it was filled with interesting stories. It went on to show how deeply a doctor feels when he is unable to fight against the merciless hands of death.
One-sided stories from the media had also instilled fear in my heart against medical professionals, but reading this has assured me that there are innumerable doctors who strive for nothing more than the well-being of patients, even sometimes at the cost of their own mental grievances.
Most of the doctors in the book have emphasized the context of the doctor-patient relationship and the need to rebuild the lost trust. They had pushed on the fact that doctors are healers and not God. The presence of ‘Do you know?’ facts at the end of each chapter were a pleasant addition; narration backed by data.
Overall, this book is a definite read. I would recommend it not only to young medical students but also to those whose trust is wavering from the world of medicine. There is a backstory we don’t know about, and this book does justice to the world lesser-known.
Have you ever doubted your doctor and not follow their advice? If yes, then this is the book that you have to read. It’s about stories of doctor-patient relationship, different unimaginable situations doctors face, their failures and successes and a lot more that makes us aware about our rights and duties as patients and give us a reason for why this relationship isn’t a one way street.
The book has stories 34 stories, each story encounters with the greatest and toughest moments of doctors from around the globe; the name of the patients in each stories has been changed. The title is perfect and cover is simple and classy. The language of the book is simple but it has some medical terms, which end up enhancing my vocabulary. At the end of each story, a ‘Do You Know’ section is there, which is informative and helpful. . “𝗗𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪: 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸. 𝗔 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.” . Narration is vivid. In some stories, sometimes to make a concept clear and sometimes to show patient’s vision, some visuals are drawn by author Aparna; which I believe is a great idea. Also, at the end of the book, there’s a section dedicated to the rights, a patient and a doctor have; which make this book a must read for all.
This book is needed, looking at the current scenario of a doctor-patient relationship. Due to some who fail this profession, we should not let the whole industry suffer. The authors have done a great job in conveying this message with the help of this book. I loved the book and I recommend this book to all; everybody should read it once.
India has the highest incidence of acid attacks in the world, rising from 83 incidents in 2011 to 349 in 2015. The easy availability of acid is the primary reason for India's failure to prevent such attacks. Four years after the 2013 judgment when the Supreme Court ordered every state and unison territory to outlaw the over the counter sale of acid, one can still buy a bottle without much difficulty in various places across the country.
REVIEW
This book is the answer to his questions about the meaning and Purpose of human life. This is a Collection of Heartfelt Stories by Doctors and Patients from across the globe. Life is a continuum and Death is a part of it. The more we contemplate the meaning of our lives, the more we acknowledge. From time immemorial, medicine has remained one of the most respected professions. These are Stories of triumph, togetherness, Positivity, Loss, failure.
God has chosen special persons to take care of the physical pains and sufferings of man and such persons are known as doctors. But recently countrywide dissatisfaction on the major pillar of the medical services raises number of questions. In this present article authors have tried to find out the related factors with the changing scenario of doctor- patients relationship from worldwide prospective.
Very encouraging, with new insights. Well explained with examples. Will be reading again practising his suggestions. Human Resilience can often break barriers, and these stories serve as inspiration to both patients and doctors alike. Read it for bravery. Read it if you like pondering over meaning and purpose of life.
This book is a collection of 34 heartfelt stories on the doctor and patient relationship. Majority of the stories are of doctors who have shared some good and some bad experiences. Few stories are also narrated by people who surround the doctors. Each and every story is heart touching. There was a time when doctors were treated like gods but nowadays, crimes and violence against them is rapidly increasing. We need to understand that doctors too are human beings, they too can mistake and that's what our authours tried to share in this book. Speaking the truth I am a person who is suffering from ppharmacophobiaif this word exists) so barely go to hospitals or even listen to any doctor and let's not talk about me taking medicines. And whenever I visit them there is a constant thought in my mind that just like other professionals money is the only thing that matters to them. But this book has completely changed my outlook. Yes, money matters because they too have a family to feed but their first priority is always their patients. Talking about the book narration is great. There are so many medical jargons( they were necessary) which made this book a little bit difficult for non-medicos like me. The thing which I really liked about this book is 'did you know?' the section at the end of each chapter. That's indeed informative. If you belong to the medical field read this book, if you are someone for whom doctors are not God read this book, if you are someone who disrespects doctors then this book is surely for you.
Title: Dear People, with Love and Care, Your Doctors Publisher: Bloomsberry Genre: Non-fiction Pages: 293 pages Version: Paperback Rating: 4 My Review: As we all know that in today's world, there is deprivation of good relations between a doctor and a patient, there were riots in West Bengal recently. Well, the reason in some cases is the fault of doctor and in some of the patient. But doctors actually work day-in and day-out to bring the best for us. We need to understand that "DOCTORS ARE NOT GOD", we cannot expect them to be perfect in every sense. There are 34 stories in total.I loved each and every story presented in this 293 pages memoir. The tiny footnotes after each chapter painted a vivid picture with statistics in the profession as a whole and they were useful too. Each story has a heart and soul of its own which connects deeply with the readers. Each story starts with a unique quotation which is unique and again forces readers to think. Loved the Did You Know parts included in between its pages. They are much more informative and interesting to read. One thing I would like to mention is that the book is written in medical language. I mean there are lots of terminologies that non-medical person will have difficulty in understanding. Highly recommend this book to people of every age group. Taking into account the present scenario, the way doctors are being treated around the country, this book is a must-read by all.
This title shares the secrets in the life of doctors and researches to present the underlining significances of Doctor-Patient relationship to redefine the preconceptions we carried so far. While describing some meaningful insights of how Doctor strives hard to keep the patient's body and mind healthy, it also pinpoints the perceptions of doctors when they encounter the Patient phase, violence - they face by public etc.
With developing modern techniques, doctors not only having the duty to diagnose the patient's disease effectively but also have the commitments to ensure to juggle the consequences if any untoward happens. This book draws the growing impatience and loss of faith towards the doctors and the lack of ability to handle the situations by them if any unforeseen or unanticipated experiences take place in detail.
Here in this book, the authors have narrated the main thrust of various Doctors real-life experiences, the trauma it gives at different stages and the process of the regressions. In short, this lets you know about the fragments of the medical world from these 34 chapters that one must need to know. The language and the format used made this a quite sorted one. I love it, how the varied themes, the writing and the way it often demands your attention to its fraternity and working on the relationships at large.
It is worth reading, both by non-doctors and doctors.
These are stories and essays mainly by doctors, a couple by doctor relatives (spouse, mother) and a couple of patients. By nature, despite good editing, they are uneven.
The only challenge is the subtle hubris within many of the essays that because doctors work so hard and make sacrifices, patients should not only be nice to them, but feel gratitude. Virtually all doctors land up believing this during their career and it is hard not to shake this feeling that comes through a bunch of the stories mentioned here.
Nevertheless, the stories are eye-openers especially for non-doctors, and the quality of the editing is far better than we see with Indian books of this genre.

Out of all the professions medicine is perhaps the noblest. Doctors are like agents of god. They cure us, they bring smile to our ailing soul and sometimes prolong our lifespan. But in between these flattering words we forget that doctors are merely human beings. They also have emotions like everyone else. Like us they can make mistakes too and sometimes even doctors have to assume the role of patient. . 'Dear People with Love and Care, Your Doctors' is an anthology of some heartfelt anecdotes shared by some of prominent doctors accross the country and globe. There are thirty four stories in the book that cover a long chain of issues i.e. love, happiness, frustration, struggles, success, gulit, disappointment, hope and loss of hope of doctors. These small anecdotes of doctors' life bring bare a different voice. We often hear acusations about doctors of medical negligence, overcharges, rude behaviors etc. But in a few of the instances do we hear the other side of the story. In this book the writers mend that void with perfection. The book takes us into the personal life of doctors and shows us the true nature of the profession. . The book has a very noble purpose that is to improve doctor-patient relationship. After reading the book I really feel that my love and respect towards doctors have been deeply increased. But I would have liked it more if there were some stories about the poor patients who cannot afford the costly private hospitals, because I think, that's the most important area when it comes to doctor-patient relationship. . The book is immensely insightful in terms of medical knowledge. Yes, there are plenty of medical jargoons but they are well explained and to me this was more help than hindrance. . I think the book should be read by all to know about those people whom we soully depend on for most of our problems but little do we care about there emotions and feelings. Hats of to Dr. Debraj Shome and Aprna Govil Bhaskar for combining and editing these beautiful real life anecdotes.
