I initially studied English Literature and Theatre Arts at University then travelled while doing freelance film, video and theatre work and teaching English. Eventually I returned to the UK where I joined an inspirational community of writers on the South Coast. My great grandfather was illustrator Charles Robinson and as a child I read many books illustrated by him so I love fairy tales, especially the Gothic ones! Some of my favourite writers include Angela Carter, Roald Dahl and Samuel Beckett. Also, of course, the book, 'The Uses of Enchantment' by Bruno Bettelheim, is one of my favourites too.

A European Woman by Ava Carpzov is a lovely read. It is romantic in the big sense of the word, with our 26 year old hero, Imogen, travelling to Greece to teach English, soak up the sunshine, and find love and friendship.
She certainly has her moments, but Mediterranean life as a foreigner is not quite the idyll she was expecting. You need more than just three T-shirts for a Greek winter, and Greek boy’s mums can be just as cool as one’s own parents.
Ms Carpzov managed to get Imogen deep inside my head. All of the characters are intense, and the narrative beautifully written In first person. The plot is intriguing and fun, and the comedy perfectly timed and genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. Seriously recommended!
