Fallen Royals #4

Vicious Desire

Rate this book
*A Dark High School Bully Romance*

Riley Appleton loves to hate me.

It’s my fault the hate is there in the first place. She needed somewhere to direct her anger, and I volunteered to be the target.

Being adored is boring.
I wanted something different.

Each jab that falls from her pretty mouth is a challenge, and the more we fight, the hotter we burn.

But soon, this game of ours goes too far. She needs to be reminded who really rules this relationship.

Our feud is a joke—but in the end, I’ll be the only one laughing.

This is a dark high school bully romance with mature content and themes. It contains dubious situations that some readers may find offensive. If you're looking for a white knight hero, this book is not for you.

Books 1-3 are a trilogy and need to be read together. Vicious Desire is the first standalone in the series.

boy meets girl, boy and girl catch feelings and date, big misunderstanding, boy hates girl, separation, boy wants revenge on girl ... you know the drill. it's pretty much the go-to second chance romance plot of every dark na romance with hs/college characters and this book is no different.

i thought riley and eli had potential from what i read of them in the previous books but my main feeling reading this was ???

sole plus point: theo and lucy's relationship seems promising

Welcome back to Emery-Rose Elite my friends! Oh, how I missed all the characters in this world. Vicious Desire is a perfect addition to this complex and fascinating world of elite prep school kids. I simply fell even more in love with Riley and Eli in Vicious Desire. I have been excited about their story for months and it did not disappoint. You will definitely not want to miss the next installment of the Fallen Royals series. It’s intriguing, suspenseful, full of angst and heartache, and everything in between.

Eli Black. Where do I even begin with this fascinating character? I am completely obsessed with him. He’s got the whole bad boy, don’t give a crap about anything vibe going on, even though he does. He cares a lot. Vicious Desire gives the reader a chance to get inside Eli’s head and man is it a roller coaster. He feels so many different things at once and struggles to cope with those feelings. Many times, he has this fog that comes over his mind and he doesn’t know what to do to get out of that funk. His friends do the best they can to help him through it, but sometimes you just have to ride out the pain and misery to find your happiness. And my boy does find his happiness. It’s a bumpy and painful ride, but it’s worth it in the end. I loved Eli’s darker side. I shouldn’t, but I do. He’s a complex character with so many layers to uncover and I enjoyed uncovering them all. I feel like I understand Eli a lot more now after reading his story. We received fascinating glimpses and tidbits in the trilogy, but we get so much more in his story. I could read about Eli all day, every day. I can’t wait to see some more of him in the other two books of the series as well!

Riley Appleton is my girl. I loved her in the trilogy as Margo’s bestie and I fell more in love with her character in Vicious Desire. Riley has been through so much in her young life and her strength and courage just made me love her even more. She’s a warrior and survivor. There were a few times I wanted to smack her, but I got where she was coming from and she progressed passed those points throughout the story. She’s sassy, spunky, and so fierce. This girl is honestly such a trooper. The reader learns so much about her in Vicious Desire and we begin to understand why she did some of the things she did in the trilogy. If you didn’t like her in the trilogy, I think you will like her so much more in her story! There is so much history as to why she is the way she is. Why she was so closed off and quiet. Why she didn’t really want to let anyone in. Riley is the best. I love her fire and passion for life that comes out in Vicious Desire. I cannot wait for everyone to see this fierce and passionate side of Riley.

Riley and Eli are INSANE together. Honestly, these two are a perfect match for one another. They fit together like puzzle pieces, even if they have jagged edges. These two have such a complex and complicated history together. They have been through so much. These two have let too many people get in the way of how they feel about one another and dictate whether or not they should be together. Gosh. They honestly hurt my heart through most of this book. They were so in love with each other, but so angry at one another too. I was so happy when they got it together and worked it out. It was a proud momma moment right there! The reader definitely gets the backstory of Riley and Eli that we never got in the trilogy. We caught glimpses of it, but I never understood their love/hate relationship. The dynamic makes complete sense now and it was never really a love/hate relationship. Just a fierce and passionate relationship that lacked communication at times, which made for some serious misunderstandings between the two. The chemistry between these two is fantastic and I couldn’t get enough of them. I am so glad everything worked out for these two in the end. It was a pretty bumpy and painful ride, but they came out stronger and more in love in the end. I LOVE these two so much.

Overall, I rate this book a 5/5! I absolutely love everything about it. I learned the history of Riley and Eli’s complicated and fascinating relationship, I got to see some of my favorite characters again, and I had the chance to meet some new characters. This was a fast-paced read that had me hooked until the very end. I absolutely love reading about my favorite Emery-Rose Elite characters and i can’t wait to see where S Massery takes us next! Bring on Liam and Theo!

I am disappointed that I didn't like this book much.

In all honesty I didn't like Riley in the 3 books of Caleb and Mallory. Reason why is because when Mallory was being bullied she didn't do much to stand up for her best friend only hid.

Then this book showed more why I didn't like her. So this whole time all that drama with breaking up with Eli was because someone spread a rumor to hear about him and she didn't bother to confirm it just automatically assumed it was true....wtf?! Then she betrays Eli's trust by giving away confidential information....I'm done drop mic.

I didn't mind the flashbacks personally. I think we needed them since we knew zero about their history. I would of liked to read a flashback about her giving him her virginity which was never spoken about.

I found the storyline to drag a lot and not much interesting story in it unfortunately.

I'm curious to see if these golden boys end up staying friends because sounds like each pair relocates somewhere different. I think a bonus epilogue about what their future is would of been great.

Honestly I’m not sure where to begin with this book. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around it. I just felt like the story jumped around a lot & the storyline wasn’t really solid.
Didn’t connect with Riley either and whilst I wanted to really like Eli I only sorta did.
Disappointed in this book if I’m honest.

“Is that what I want? To make it through the flames with Riley? No. I’m pretty sure I just want to chuck her into the fire and watch her burn.”

So freaking addictive. I can’t deal. Give me book five.

Hate wasn’t everything. But at the same time, it was the only thing that grounded us.

⚠️REVIEW CONTAINS A LOT OF CURSING⚠️
Sorry for the negativity, I did actually hold back.

"You’ve been my constant.”
“You’ve been mine, too.”

💔 The story 💔
The story is about Eli and Riley, who used to date. We slowly learn why they broke up, and we learn more about their pasts together.

Before I started this book, I definitely thought I’d enjoy Eli and Riley’s story more than any of the others. We saw a little of their story in the Wicked Dreams’ books, and I couldn’t wait to find out what went wrong in their pasts. What I massively disliked however, is how all of the sudden Riley had this tragic past. Seriously, her friendship with Margo was supposedly so great, and yet she didn’t know anything about Riley’s home life? It felt like something that was just added to give Riley some depth, but I hated it. Another thing I hated, was the lack of communication again. How is this always the main reason for the big fight that the characters have? Ugh.

But let me get into the things that annoyed me so much, that my rating dropped 2.5 stars. Seriously, that fucking ending. The book was alright up until that point and was hovering around the 4 stars mark. The reveal near the end was so freaking anticlimactic that I actually laughed. And then, Eli tells the freaking MAFIA that they were mistaken, and it wasn’t her, and they’re like “oh really? Well alright then, bye!” What. The. Actual. Fuck?!?!?!?!!? and then they just give up like that? They believe Eli’s word? That isn’t how mafia works at all.

The other thing that made me throw things, was the reason behind the fight between her and Eli. Seriously?!?!?! I repeat; What. The. Actual. Fuck. She could’ve literally talked to him and said, “hey I heard this and this from a bitch who’s obviously lying, but I still believe her, so tell me what happened” and all this very unnecessary drama could’ve been avoided. Oh my stars, and THEN!! Then the fight – which they’ve been having for like a year may I add, and made them hate each other’s guts – was over within a fucking second??? They literally said like three words about it, and they were all like “yeah what were we thinking, let’s fuck”. What. The oipfsfdsgfhsfjiafdjksfdsfdkjsafaefafd. Man, it’s been a while since I was so disappointed and aggressive over a book, holy shit.

💔 The characters 💔
🏃‍♀️Riley🏃‍♀️
I did like her a little more, since she seemed more badass and headstrong than she was in the first book. I really didn’t like how much of a pushover she was in those books, and I’m glad we finally got some explanation in why she went along with pretty much everything that Eli asked of her. I liked her and Eli together, they were cute in the end. I didn’t like the sudden dramatic backstory that she had, but okay.

💼Eli💼
Yeah, I don’t know how I feel about this guy. I don’t really like the ‘pact’ that they made. I don’t understand why that was necessary at all, how about just being a decent human being and not being a jerk at all? Seems a lot better to me.

I do however loved all the boys together again, how they all have each other’s back is so lovely! Although I thought that they hated relationships lol, but they’re definitely very supportive of every single one of their girlfriends lmao.
“Those scars between us are already fading. But even if they don’t? It’s a roadmap to our relationship.”

💔 Overall conclusion 💔
If it wasn’t obvious from my rant, my rating of this book dropped immensely near the end. I really did like the book up until that point, but the reveals were insanely weak, and I hated that. I did like the fact that we saw some of the old crew again, and that we finally ‘saw’ Caleb’s painting of Margo – although I still want to see hers. The sex scene(s) were cute, but it suddenly all felt very rushed. The ending was cute though, but the whole ‘mystery/scary subplot’ was over within seconds, while it was such an important aspect throughout the book. It was really weird in my opinion; the pacing was just off. I’m not sure if I’ll be reading the rest of the books, maybe once I cool down a bit. I did like the rest of the story, but all of the subplots were just so freaking terribly done that I couldn’t enjoy the good bits anymore.

Vicious Desire
Fallen Royals, Book 4
By: S. Massery
Narrated by: Addison Barnes, Marcio Catalano

S Massery has done it again! I love this 4th installment of the Fallen Royals series. This book features Eli and Riley and it's fantastic. These two have an on and off relationship thought to be finally be over, but feelings run deep and situations change. Eli on the outside seems to be a cool, calm and collected man, but harbors many fractures in his life. Riley is facing critical times in her life, broken and sad, but her strength is something keeps her going. These two are flawed, but together fit and become strong. I love the push pull they have and their incredible chemistry. It's hot and sensual at the same time giving us hate/passion. So good, wonderfully damaged characters and a story of crazy, dark love and hope. It packs it all in to a listen you don't want to miss.

Narrated by Addison Barnes and Marcio Catalano and we have a team that enhances his bully romance. Barnes has a voice fit for new adult and she brings all the emotions Riley goes through. She has a lot happening in her life, and Barnes takes us through an array of emotions. Catalano is amazing as Eli. He has a way of being mean, while giving us the feeling of his underlying hurt and love. It's his talent bringing Eli to life. These two were the perfect casting.

Audio Review:
Vicious Desire (Fallen Royals, Book 4) is a dark high-school-bully romance; .second chance at love. I absolutely love this series. It brings a air of mystery evolving around Eli and Riley's past. I love the writing style and composition. I loved how we got the backstory of Eli and Riley. And the flashbacks. A highly intriguing novel bounteous with suspense, twisted moments, lies & secrets, I love the chemistry between Eli and Riley. The supporting character's were wonderful too. I love the journey this author took us on that was burning with passion between Eli and Riley. I'm excited to listen to the next audio in this captivating series when available. I absolutely loved how it ended and the epilogues were wonderful.

Casting narrators Addison Barnes, Marcio Catalano was the perfect choice. Addison's inflection is smooth and fits character's age. She brought out all of Riley's emotions. Marcio was amazing as Eli. His tone is deep and strong. He was exactly how I would picture Eli.

This duel pov story was fabulously written and narrated by two talented narators and I highly recommend listening.

— arc kindly provided in an exchange for an honest review —

Eli and Riley are characters introduced in the previous books of the series but their relationship always seemed mysterious and from an outsider’s point of view. Finally we get their point of view of their relationship and the occurrences in their lives.

Both Eli and and Riley are characters with flaws yet they always seem to want to put others above themselves because that’s simply how they are. Eli Black really surprised me because even through all the bad stuff that has happened and that past he had to overcome,he still cared. Riley Appleton is such a strong character and based on the past with her family and other close people around her, I was able to understand the growth in her character.

I really enjoyed their story for the way it was written and making it easier to understand every single decision or thought that the characters had. I liked the growth in each character from past to present and their way of handling things that made them weak, only to come out stronger at the end.

MY GOODNESS did Eli & Riley frustrate me! More than once my Kindle almost went flying because these two kept stubbornly butting heads and not communicating effectively. This book was a great example of flaws and the importance of forgiveness. Eli had the biggest chip on his shoulder to start with but I think Riley had far more in the way of obstacles to overcome. Poor thing, couldn't get out of her own way there for a little bit. It's probably partly because of her immaturity and age and partly due to all the chaos in the other parts of her life, but she for sure hasn't had it easy and I was mad in the beginning that Eli was being a bit to hard on her, but their push and pull kept me turning the pages! Happy to see a peek at Margo and Caleb as well! Good well rounded tale and I loved the suspense layer also! I look forward to more from this author and this world!

Really enjoyed!

The fourth in the Fallen Royals series... LOVED IT! I first read this series back in January and I’m really not sure why I didn’t read this after but I’m glad I have now!

It’s about Eli & Riley who are the best friends of the characters in the first book. It is filled with mystery and secrets and I was just desperate to find out what was going on and who was behind some of the stuff happening!

I love stories that keep you wondering and guessing and not trusting anyone and this was one of those. It really did keep me hooked to find out how it was going to end.

I really like Eli & Riley as characters, you could feel the love they had for each other so strongly 🥺

Really recommend this series! 💕

Book 4 in the Fallen Royals series and this time we get Riley and Eli's book. The first 3 books in the series focus on the tangled web that is Margo and Caleb's relationship.

I thoroughly enjoyed diving into these alternative characters as we had been introduced to them in the previous books in the series. It was hot is was sexy it was twisted bully romance at its best. The characters will frustrate you no end but also have you begging for more. Fantastic storytelling.

If you haven't started this series yet do yourself a favour and go and get your copy now!

I really liked this book. It was really hard to put down. Eli the bad boy has a dark side. Riley she’s been suffering but she persevered and gets through things. I like when characters have flaws so that I could relate and they feel more real. This book did just that I was captivated by Eli and Riley’s relationship. After I finished I was sad I wanted more.

S Massery did an AMAZING job. I loved this book and her others in the series. I can’t wait for the next books!!!!

Hold on tight y’all! This book is amaaaazing!!! I was always so curious about Riley and Eli’s relationship during Caleb and Margo’s books and let’s just say any thoughts i may have had about what to expect in this book, were blown out of the water!!! S. Massery did an incredible job writing this book and truly showing what these characters were struggling with on the inside! I cannot wait to hear about what others will say about this book!! You will truly not want to put it down until you finish it and even then you don’t want to put it down! Definitely a must read and read the other three books in the series first! Looking forward to the future books as well ♥️♥️

Ahhhh!!! Finally some answers to Riley and Eli’s story. This book soooo needed to happen and it did not disappoint! Riley was one of my faves from the first three stories and I’m so happy she got to have her own HEA. She had a LOT to deal with and Eli eventually comes through. I really loved getting to know these characters better and finding out what was behind the veil of their relationship.

I am so glad to finally be able to read Riley and Eli's story to find out what went wrong. Sara never disappoints with her books and she definitely took us on another hidden adventure, where you think you have it figured out but then she gives you another little clue that doesn't add up. I love the chemistry these two have but will the lies and secrets get in the way??

Left wanting more

Where to start. Ugh! I really wish I could give this book a higher rating but to me it didn't deliver.
I had anticipated Riley and Eli for such a long time and it just didn't deliver. I missed their banter and their chemistry.
The pace was also slow. There are so many flashbacks in this book that I was honestly confused at times if it was past or present. It didn't help either that some of those flashbacks ended so abruptly.
The introduction of new characters was also a bit confusing I was left wondering if the author was laying the groundwork for future books.
Riley and Eli didn't shine as a couple in this book. There was too much going on with secondary characters to appreciate their story. I didn't feel the connection between them as I had in the previous books. I felt that the things that kept them apart for the majority of the book could have been resolved much quicker.
Also, I felt that the ending felt rushed. Finally, when both MC's figure things out the book ends.
Another huge thing that I can't overlook is that the characters are not physically described. Like, yes I know they were described in previous books but not here. I kept wanting to picture them in my head but had little to go by except for the eye color. Such a shame too because the cover is 🔥
I've became a fan of Sarah because of the Wicked Trilogy and so I'm feeling bittersweet about this book. I'm glad I got to see Caleb, Margo, Liam, and Theo.
I'm still looking forward to more books by this author, but I had high expectations for this one.

I love Riley and Eli!! This was definately one of my top reads for 2020.
There’s a lot of mystery around what actually happened between Riley and Eli. Riley is heartbroken and hurt it seems by Eli and definately the popular girls. It’s clear Eli wants some form of revenge but can’t stop thinking of her. He’s not the bully we think he is. He actually cared so much for Riley and I was here for it ❤️
I’m so sad for Riley and what happened to her mum. The lump in her throat when her mum goes ‘blank’ was heartbreaking but thankfully this had a happy ending.
Riley was tough throughout and leaned on Eli when she struggled, he looked after her like he was made to do it. We find out the girls at school played a part in what broken them up - both times - and like typical teens never discussed anything just acted.
I thought the ending and the stalker was a tiny bit rushed but the story was wrapped up with no lose ends and a happy ending.

If you have not read the Fallen Royals series you must! I fell in love with this the first page. Eli and Riley were introduced in Wicked Dreams and from there I hoped we would get more of their story! I became a huge fan of this couple, their banter (if you can call it that) made me laugh. Riley hasn’t always had the easy life and now she’s all alone at school with her best friend gone and the boy she loved is gone and she doesn’t want anything to do with him.

Ooh, Eli! He has just enough bad boy that makes you want to keep reading, Riley broke him and now it’s time to break her. Whether it’s from a distance or close he will get his revenge.

Can these two work out their issues and be the couple we desperately want.... I suggest to hit read you won’t be disappointed.

TITLE: VICIOUS DESIRES
Hate the title. Hate the story. Major disappointment.

THE STORY AS A WHOLE
I had such high hopes for this book after Margo and Caleb’s trilogy and honestly, what was this even?

A promise to ruin each other.
And a threat to put each other back together.

First of all, I was hoping to see more of their relationship during school because it seemed like an on again and off again situation but then it isn’t. It’s some weird relationship where they hate each other in public and love each other in secret. LIKE NOBODY CARES?! It was so cringey the whole ordeal, not to mention the supposed HATE they had for each other was also very lacklustre. Like it didn’t even have any depth, reason nor was it executed properly. Like 5 chapters worth of “revenge” from Eli’s side doesn’t equate to a bully romance.

The whole stalker thing was solved WAY TOO EASILY . Because are you telling me that Eli just talked them out of possibly killing them both?

And I feel like Massery packed too much plot points into a very small book. It may seem like a 300 pages worth of novel but it’s not. Because every chapter is max 2 pages long and every problem is solved in the last 10 pages of the book. MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTING.

PROBLEMS IN THIS BOOK:
1. Eli and Riley’s misunderstanding
2. Riley’s stalker
3. Riley’s admission into University
4. Eli dropping out
5. Eli’s future?
6. Riley’s mum’s depression
7. Riley’s dad’s absence
8. Noah being an addict (previously)
9. Noah being mugged and in the hospital
10. Mum’s suicide attempt.

Like there was a A LOT TO UNPACK and it wasn’t even unpacked in a good enough order. Like I’m still bothered by the whole “Eli hooking Noah up with a drug dealer” like where was the conversation about that? And then the whole picture with the girl, like where was the excuse? The truth? Like Riley just believed him again? If she was going to forgive him so fast than why even go through the trouble of hating each other?

RILEY
I like her as a character and as Margo’s friend. But as a FMC. No. I have to blame it on the awful story that I just read, but seriously there was NOTHING going on, and so many things could’ve been explored, but they weren’t.

We could’ve had a simple yet complex story that delved into their learning to focus on her running, slowly rebuilding her relationship with Eli, building that trust, being there for her mum. But the whole stalker thing was so uncalled and honestly just a drag.

ELI
I like how we BRIEFLY saw how he didn’t agree with Caleb’s ways of bullying Margo and it showed us that he didn’t agree with it. And was actually NEVER a bully to Riley. I like that about him.

There are no black sheep in the Black family.
Except... me?

I still don’t have a grasp about his problem? Like yes, he feels the burden of following in the footsteps of his father. But I honestly thought the family problem would be the case of abandonment (which by the way wasn’t acknowledged like how it was mentioned in Caleb’s POV). His feelings were a complete mystery and honestly I didn’t like it at all.

THE BOYS
“Caleb’s my partner,” I inform them.
Theo rolls his eyes. “Yeah, right. How about we flip for it?” Caleb holds up his hands. “Ladies, please. Don’t fight over me.” I resist the urge to punch him. “Fine.”
Liam comes over and elbows me. “We can take ’em.”
Fuck that. We’re so going to crush them.

Another book and another time the boys were there for each other like brothers. Love it.

I can’t blame Margo. I was used to being alone, so much so that loneliness was like a second skin. I was comfortable in it. Slept in it, breathed through it. Loneliness was my armor. Being around Margo, having a true friend... I shed that skin for friendship.
We’re still friends, but I’m alone again.

Special mentions to Margo and how she has always tried to be there for Riley.

RANKING FOR THE COUPLES:
1. Caleb x Margo
2. Riley x Eli

RANKING FOR THE MALE LEADS:
1. Caleb
2. Eli

1. Margo
2. Riley

******THERE ARE SOME SMALL SPOILERS IN HERE, NOTHING TOO CRAZY************

This book was fun, but also kind of a letdown after the original trilogy. It was well written, and there were some nice bits of humor in there, but I didn't feel nearly as invested in these characters or their relationship. It's surprising too, because I was fascinated by Eli and Riley's story all throughout Margo and Caleb's trilogy.

A big part of the problem for me was that so much what made them a provocative pair to read about - their chemistry, enigmatic dynamic, and their personalities - were established in the first three books, so then this book mostly skipped over all of that. Instead, the author focused on backstory that we didn't already know. Makes sense, but I think I needed more of that original flavor, especially since I hadn't read the other books in a while.

The other issue for me is that pretty much everything, from their respective traumatic pasts, to their family dramas, their miscommunications to their resolutions, even the villains and their climactic coming-out moment, all of it was skimmed. I think what happened was author started a while slew of plot points, and then developed none of them. We barely touch the surface on why anything happened the way it did, what any given part of their relationship looked like, what their break up looked like, what their motives were for not talking to each other when that would be the obvious course of action. Almost everything that's supposed to matter to us or that's supposed to make the characters matter to us is given like, a sentence or two. It was weird. Hell, when the main characters finally begin to air out why exactly they broke up in the first place, they just start kissing instead.

I still have so many questions, especially why in the hell was Riley so over the top secretive about her personal life? Her family, her relationship, her break up, she wouldn't talk about any of it, even with the people who were closest to her. It was strange behavior and called for a strong explanation, but if I ever got it it must have been so thin or thrown in that I missed it entirely.

Another thing that niggled at me was on the night of their first kiss. They were supposed to be about 14 and 15 years old. Riley was about to be a freshman, Eli a sophomore. It was Riley's first kiss period, but they had this banging against the dresser passion thing going on, and I'm sorry, I don't see kids that age having that level of comfort with their sexuality that they kiss like that. I can suspend my disbelief if they're even a little older, but that young? Too much. No fucking way are they kissing like that.

One thing to mention, neither good nor bad really, is that in the trilogy, it seemed like these two couldn't keep their hands off of each other, but curiously this story is largely a slow burn. The sex they have is hot though, that hasn't changed.

To be fair, this was always going to be a hard book to make. We spent three novels growing progressively more attached to the group: Caleb, Liam, Theo, Eli, Riley and Margo. Together. This year they all split up and go their separate paths, so we don't have that. I miss them all together. I was way too attached to the group to then read a story in that world without it and be satisfied. They did have a quick moment where everybody was reunited, which was very welcome, but it wasn't enough!

In the end, it wasn't my favorite, but I still enjoyed it! I remain undeterred. Totally worth it, I'm pumped for the next one!

"A split second alters your life forever." Riley, Vicious Desire by S Massery.

Where do I even start with this review? This book is amazing. If you have already read the other books in S. Massery's Fallen Royals series you will have already met Eli and Riley, as well as several of the other supporting characters in this book. If you have not read the first 3 books yet.....I highly recommend you read them, although I don't feel like it is absolutely necessary to enjoy this book.

Eli and Riley have an interesting dynamic to their relationship. I wouldn't call this an enemies-to-lovers. I also wouldn't call it a friends-to-lovers. Let's call this a frenemies-to-lovers. Which just makes the tension in this book absolutely amazing. As Eli say "I like that about her. I'm angry enough to kill her one moment and protecting her the next."

I have to say, I think I am glad I went to public school. I don't know if every private school has as much drama as Emery Rose Elite, but I am glad that I didn't have to go through what these kids do.

I loved how we learn so much about how Riley and Eli's relationship developed, fell apart, came back together, and fell apart again before the current events in the story. I always have been a sucker for a second (third) chance romance.

Through the first part of this book, I felt a little lost with the reasons behind some of the characters thoughts and actions. As the story unfolds though, the pieces start falling into place. This story comes together beautifully in the end. The questions just added to the suspense of the story.

I love the twisted, wicked, vicious mind of S. Massery. I almost wish I could spend a day, hour, heck I would settle for a minute in her mind to see how it works. She has created an incredible wicked world with her Fallen Royals series. I can not wait for the next book to see where she takes us. This is one of those series that I don't think I could ever get enough books from.

How happy was I that this book was already out after finishing Caleb and Margo’s trilogy.

𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒓𝒆, book 4 in the 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝑹𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍𝒔 series was a big surprise for me. I was expecting the typical enemies to lovers, bully trope romance. At least that’s what it seemed like when we saw our couple, Eli and Riley, interact in the first 3 books.

I thought this book would deal with the aftermath of what happened between Eli and Riley in 𝑾𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒔 and go from there. But it was a beautifully written blend between past and present events that left me restless to know what really happened all along.

After reading how intricate the plot was for Caleb and Margo, granted their story spanned 3 books, 𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒓𝒆 felt a tad simple. But, despite the fact I saw it coming, I enjoyed every second I spent with my head buried in this book. I loved how persistent Eli was in his pursuit, never really giving up and the length he went through to get what he wanted, in love and in life. He was sweet and caring yet ruthless and I was HERE for it! Riley felt a bit gullible, but I can expect as much from someone who was being bullied/influenced and shaped for years without outright being bullied. It leaves a trace on someone and the way they think.

Another thing, I ABSOLUTELY loved, was that even after the guys graduated and went on with their lives, they’ll still drop everything to be there when one of them needs support, of any kind. So I was stoked when I got to see them all reunited again, plotting.

I’ll leave you with one final thought. S. Massery is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Second to Theo’s, Eli and Riley’s story was one I was highly looking forward since the first book in the 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝑹𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍𝒔 series. I already started 𝑪𝒓𝒖𝒆𝒍 𝑨𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒏 and I got to say, I grossly underestimated Liam! 😈 It’s impossible to pick favorites!

You know what is super fun? Communicating!

All their issues throughout school could have been avoided if Riley actually talked to him instead of bolting every time. She even promised to ignore whatever was going to be said before they walked into that funeral party but the second she got a whiff of trouble, she was gone. Same thing happened when she heard about what he supposedly did as a senior.

Despite those issues, I actually loved this book and thought it could have easily been a duet with all the flashbacks in the first book and then the modern day stuff in the second. It fit duet style better than Caleb and Margo's books tbh.

I love that Eli doesn't even go into everything hating her. He tries for about two seconds then just gives in because he knows he still loves her. I didn't even really feel like this was a bully romance, to be honest. Especially since he wasn't the one causing all her problems for the most part. He was the one there helping her with them. I love Massery's Hockey Gods series but this one is even better. I was hesitant to start it because I really don't like high school books but I'm glad I did.

Good but not great

I was excited to read this one. I've loved Eli through out the series, and have been curious what caused Riley to do what she done.

Vicious Desire gave me the answers I was looking for but it left me wanting more. I didn't like what Riley did or her reasoning for it. She came off as very immature to me. A simple conversation could have prevented a lot of issues. Eli is incredibly sweet in his own way. The fact that he just forgives her so easily without any issues seemed a little simple. He's been a hot head and a bit of a bully throughout the series and when it came to his story, there really wasn't any of that.

There is also the storyline of someone following Riley. I was really intrigued with that and curious who it was and how it would play out. Then all is revealed and cleared up in a matter of two pages? That left me more confused and wondering what was even the point of adding that in.

Overall I liked Viscious Desire and was happy that I got to see into their relationship from the beginning until current time.

Book 4 in the Fallen Royals series and this time we are getting the story of a new couple, Riley and Eli. The first 3 books in the series focus on Margo and Caleb's relationship, but we did meet Riley and Eli as side characters. Finally, we get to see first hand what their story is.

I would say you could actually read this without reading the prior books since we actually start a year in the future and keep going back to past events. I loved how we get to learn how Riley and Eli's relationship developed, fell apart, came together, and fell apart again before the current events in the story. This was a second or third chance romance and also a huge bully theme if those are your thing.

I admit that the first part of this book left me feeling confused and not able to understand the reasons behind the characters thoughts and actions. As we progress and get more pieces of the puzzle we are able to understand why they did what they did.
