OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

I bought this book specifically for my son who was moving to Australia and probably going to get a job in Brisbane. I got it at Barnes and Noble because it was the only book in the travel section on Australia. To my son’s sad disappointment, not one shred of information is contained in this book about Brisbane and in fact if you go into the index Brisbane is not even listed in the index! How is this even possible? Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia with over 2 1/2 million people — how is there no information on this city in this book? This book is a JOKE. I also couldn’t find a shred of information on the Gold Coast. Which was the other place he was going to

Disappointing that it didn't mention Australia Zoo at all, but it had a lot of useful information.

Super helpful when I was traveling in Australia. Would definitely recommend this. As I would be in places for like a week, this book was great at giving the highlights and must do's.

Despite only reading it for a Melbourne trip, this book succinctly demonstrated a need to hit every corner of Australia. Amazing pictures as well
