The Right Ranger is a sexy, sweet friend to lovers story. Haley is a widow of an Army Ranger, Drew, whose fellow teammates have all retired and now live in Texas near Haley's ranch. She was having a hard time even before Drew died two years earlier, and now really needs Cord's help with getting her ranch ready to be converted into a horse stabling ranch, rather than the cattle ranch it used to be. She's desperate, her foreman has injured himself, and she's been forced to let go most of the rest of her crew, so she needs Cord's help. He's the last person she wants to ask for help from, but desperate times call for desperate means, so she has to reach out to him.
Of course Cord is glad to help, not only because she's Ranger family, but because he's been in love with and attracted to her since even before Drew died. He has no intention of acting on his feelings, but when Haley presents an offer of no strings fun, he can't possibly resist. But, these two both have secrets troubling them, and neither wants to upset the cart, so to speak, so a relationship beyond some casual fun just may be impossible. There's no way they wouldn't fall for each other, though, what with being in such close contact for the time Cord is there to help, and their chemistry is way too strong to ignore.
Haley and Cord make a great couple. They've obviously had feelings for each other for a long time, so everything is pent up from years of hiding. The sexual tension between the two is palpable, from the very first page. And the fact that they have their friends and families' acceptance, no, enthusiasm, for them to take their friendship further, really helps them go for it. I really like the rest of the cast too, and am planning on reading the rest of the series.
I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.
"We were rangers for years, Cord. You don't just turn that off. Of course our minds would automatically think of our team. That's how we survived. That said... damn, man, you were an idiot."
