Nicky is a witch now.
She has her powers, but the price she paid was too high.
And as if that wasn't enough, the responsibility dropped on her shoulders by Callahan magic is too heavy to carry alone.
The only one who can help her is Nathan.

Book 2 in the series by Lana Melyan. It was fun to see the growth in Nicky from the previous book. The story started with her parents' death and the pain she felt and continued with the reveal of secrets. Truth was finally unlocked and etched in her brain.

Layers to Nick's characterization, added by the author, gave a depth to her. She was still a teen with her crushes and friends, but there was a core of reality embedded in the prose around her which showed me that the story was becoming multifaceted.

At 100 pages or less, it was easy to read at one go, what made it more entertaining was Nicky's interaction and flirting with Nathan, the immortal. I would love to see what emerged between them in the next book. Would they remain only good friends, though their vibes said otherwise?

There were new characters introduced in Nicky's life, with grandmother Bree being her ultimate support. The secrets of the past were intriguing, and I think that was what caught my eye in this book. I had to read it carefully to understand how the witchy covens were all connected.

I felt this book was the bridge of her growth into the story. All that remained was to see how Nicky would control her magic and become a kickass heroine that she was meant to be. A fun breakfast read, indeed!!

Second book in the quick read The Weight of Magic series from the pen of the brilliant author of Eternity Road series, Lana Melyan.

First book left us on a proper cliff-hanger with only tiny taste of what is to come, but thankfully I didn’t have to wait long to find out.

Nicki’s parents are gone and she is finally learning the truth about her magical heritage and the heavy mission her parents have dedicated their lives too. Mission that will now become hers.

We meet new witchy characters of Brian, Kate and Sam and carry on with the saucy immortal warlock Nathan – will they or won’t they.

These books have it all to keep you entertained – magic, mystery, tragedy, love and attraction. Brilliant quick reads that feed your imagination.

So I am officially hooked. This book was awesome. I love the dynamics between the characters. I hated the heartbreak our MC went through but she's strong and coming out on top.

Awesome plot development and character building. Loved it!

I received this book in a giveaway, but that in no way effects my review.

I enjoyed this book. I love Logan and Connie and the writing style in this series is amazing. This book is very heavy on the dialogue though, so it’s a little slower paced than the first book.

Just why. Why did they have to kiss like that in the middle of the parking lot and why was Nicky okay with it.

I don't want to read a romance between a 17 and 150 year old.

Recap: Nicky finds out her family secret.

Review: As soon as we met the tree in book one, I knew it would be the hiding place so deeply satisfied with that. I can't shake the feeling that the best friend will be revealed as working for the other side because we keep getting told she's harmless with bare!y any powers. The Nathan-Nicky dynamic is odd, more so because I think they're actually distant relations, if I read that correctly. Still lots and lots of coffee but a bit more magical world building this time. I like the fact that the author described it as a tv series in book form because it does feel like I'm two episodes into a show, deciding whether I'm going to carry on watching it or not. So I might just watch one more because the writing isn't bad and the scene has been set so let's get stuck in!

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is Book (Episode) Two of The Weight of Magic series. This is a fast-paced, easy and short read, perfect for a quick jump into an exciting world of witches, high school, vampires, and danger. This novella series is an exciting ride with unexpected turns and twists; it's like a TV show in a book form. You're one click from starting your binge-read.

She’s a witch now, and she has her powers, but the price she paid was too high, and as if that wasn't enough, the responsibility dropped on her shoulders by Callahan magic is too heavy to carry alone. The only one who can help her is Nathan, but can she trust him? So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Nicky is now a fully-fledged witch and her powers are strong but its cost her a lot. Nicky is now alone with her grandmother Bree and has to come to terms with a lot of responsibility. She has to learn who to trust. Nicky has to carry on the work of her parents Coven and deal with her newfound identity as the last Callahan.

There are new characters and you get to know them very quickly and learn how they fit in with Nicky’s new world.

This book has the same great pace and flow of the first book, being so short it doesn’t have masses of detail but plenty enough for you to get into the story and enjoy the read.

Surrounded by supernatural friends, the immortal warlock, other witches and warlocks and even an old vampire; will she manage to stay hidden from the Order of Kenneth and understand all the information left for her by her father?

After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story.
Continuing on from the first, in an episodic style, this amazing story continues. For such a short read, its very well written, engaging and developed. It was truly a pleasure to read this, and I honestly cannot wait to read the next!

I was already on the fence with this story due to the way in which it was written and had I bought this book (instead of reading it through KU) I’d have asked for my money back because it was a pointless read. Nothing happened. Okay, that may be a little harsh but there was really only one scene that seemed to further the plot. So far... I’m not impressed.

Sorry to say I struggled and finally gave up on this one. Nice start with book 1 but just couldn’t really engage with the characters and found it to be quite slow.
Unusual that I give up on a series, but being book 2 of 9 (at the moment) I wasn’t looking forward to a potentially very long slow crawl to the finish.
Based on other reviews it doesn’t appear others felt this way though…

A read for those that like YA novels

I started this series on June 14th and only just finished the series on June 16th. It a definite page turner since you really want to know what happens next. Which is why I didn't do a review when I finished the first book but after I finished the series.

It is a good book I one reservation!

The one reservation is these nine books could have been one book I am a fast reader but I have never got through four full books in one day. It feel like each book is a slightly longer chapter. Not sure why it was done this way but if I had paid the cost for each instead of part of my Kindle Unlimited Collection I would be rather upset.

Eye opening revelations

Nikki is finally realizing what lengths her father has gone to protect her from the family secrets. Has he gone too far though? I enjoyed this story immensely. My only wish for these books is that if they were longer!!

And so the story

And so the story continues I have so many questions, but the only way to get answers is to read all the books in the series, I know right but someone has to do it. So onward I go.

With that cliffhanger after the first book we now find out Nicky is on her own with just her grandmother Bree, after the her parents were killed, she has now come into her witch powers and gets to find out what her parents were so secretive about, and that she has now got all the responsibility to end what her parents started.
This was a whirl wind of information that Nicky now has to come to grips with, if she is to carry on the work her dad started as head of the Callahan coven.
We get to meet other characters in this book a vampire called Logan that has formed a attachment to her best friend Connie who i now suspect is not all she is,as Nicky has got to learn who to trust and who not to trust, and two more coven witches that escaped the gas explosion have started at her school were she gets to meet these as well and needs to trust them.
Love how she is with Nathan the warlock a friend of her dads who is there to protect her, there is definitely a connection between this couple,i would love to see how this pans out for the pair as they are getting closer but she has got to keep secrets even from him. Can't wait now for the next installment to this series.

Legacy picks up straight from the end of book 1 where Nicky is left reeling following the death of her parents and with many unanswered questions. I was left hooked after the first instalment and keen to read this book which I devoured in a short sitting.

The book is now really picking up the pace as it is unfolding and during this short story you learn more about the families history and how this links to the chain of events that are currently taking place and the dangers that they are facing.

A brilliant second instalment that I flew through eager to see where to story was headed and I am looking forward to continuing to read this series.

The Legacy is book 2 by Lana Meylan telling the story of witch Nicky Callahan, the awakening of her powers and the mission she must complete to stay alive.
She's surrounded by supernatural friends, some of them witches and with a vampire thrown in.
Can she stay hidden from the Order of Kenneth whilst understanding all the information left by her father?
I love the way the characters are shaping up in the series, it's going to be interesting to see where Melyan takes them.
These books are pint size sections of the story and I'm going to have to hunt the rest down to see what happens next.

I read First Wave and Legacy back to back - they are quite short and easy to read and interesting enough to keep going.
The plot and characters are a little too YA predictable for me, but I’m sure genre fans will love these - after all there’s a teenage witch suddenly discovering her special powers, a family mystery, a very old (but sexy) immortal wizard with an apparent weak spot for underage girls, a not-so-bad vampire, a terrible enemy and a battle between good and evil to gear up for.
