A charming domestic comedy, with a dash of magic, and the occasional moment of mayhem! These are the memoirs of ME, Holly Hopkinson, aged almost ten, except without any of the rubbish adults usually put in, thank you very much. My dad just lost his job, which means me and the rest of my family have to leave London and move to the middle of nowhere, which is a TOTAL DISASTER! There’s no Wi-Fi, the local kids are FERAL and there’s animal poo EVERYWHERE. But then for my birthday, my eccentric aunt gave me a magic pocket watch, which I can use to hypnotise and CONTROL people. I actually wanted a new phone, but I won’t complain because this new power is REALLY FUN and has led to the MOST unexpected things – including a visit to the QUEEN. Maybe the countryside isn’t so bad after all…
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series coming out in February. The diary format was great. Any fans of dork diaries, Tom gates and diary of a wimpy kid would love.Fav character was holly’s aunt she was so funny. Also the magic hypnotising aspect was cool
Only read this for the fact that some of the kids in my class loved it and one of my pupils lent me the last 2 books in the series.
I hated it, sorry not sorry. Written by a man who has no grasp of the vocabulary range of primary school children, tries too hard to be relatable to younger people and, in my opinion, is classist and out of touch. He seemed like a nice enough guy when he did an author visit at my school and sold the book very well (thanks to the miniature horse he bought with him stuck in a tiny enclosure, poor thing) but i hated every second. It was random, made no sense half the time and was just boring.
I’m only finishing this series so I can tell the kids in my class I finished them 🙈
Personally a HORRIBLE BOOK . It was soo boring . I would not even give a 1 star , it was THAT horrible. Like I would sleep during this book. I tried my best to like this book but i still didn't like it .
