This is a nonfiction book and is intended to educate young readers in the primary age group. This book teachers many facts about dolphins. One interesting fact that I learned in this book is that a group of dolphins is called a pod, school, or charm. Dolphins also have a belly button. Also, depending on the species, dolphins can live between 12-50 years. This book was easy to read and follow. It is set up like a question/answer book. The author chose to use real life dolphin pictures. This book would appeal to children who like dolphins. I would use this book when teaching about mammals, wild life, or sea animals.
A few things I learned: 1. Their breathing is different than ours - They have to think about breathing while with us, it just comes naturally. 2. They use echolocation to hear and detect changes in their environment 3. Dolphins have only one set of teeth, no baby teeth. Their teeth are peg shaped without molars, so whatever they catch to eat, they swallow whole. 4. Contrary to the popular stereotype, no two dolphins mate for life. Rarely ever do males stay to help raise calves. 5. Very intelligent animals with a brain the size of a person's. Bottlenose dolphins are used commonly in shows because they're more flexible and playful.
I thought the book Everything Dolphin was an okay book. I enjoyed reading some interesting facts about dolphins but I don't thinnk the book was that interesting, but that is just my opinion and I think the only reason I thought that was probably because I prefer fiction books.
