A przynajmniej wierzyłem w to aż do dnia, gdy ją zobaczyłem. Wtedy potwór, którym sądziłem, że jestem… Rzeczy, które myślałem, że znam… Każda brudna obietnica, którą odrzuciłem, powróciła, by dać mi w twarz.

Nazywam się James Fenici i chyba się zakochałem.

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

Wow....first 2 of the 3 in this series.

Come.

Having just finished 'Guns' I immediately checked out other books by JA Huss and found this book. James Fenici is not a nice man, he's a ruthless killer but his last job has taken it's toll and he's failed his latest psych evaluation so he's having some downtime at the beach. During this downtime he spots a girl and he becomes obsessed, he watches, he follows and he waits but she's no ordinary girl she's special and she's hiding..who is she and what's she's hiding from?
This is a short novella at only 84 pages but it feels longer and everything is set-up and ready for

Come Back

I've only myself to blame, I know that and I'm mad as hell and I'm asking myself why didn't I just check, I always check... well obviously not always.
After I finished 'Guns' I just had to read more by this author so I found 'Come' and wow what an interesting book or rather novella that was, I then went straight on to this book and I was hooked, completely hooked and I never stopped to check the description or the reviews, which is unusual for me so I'd no idea this was book two of three and now I have to wait and I hate that, I've no patience and I prefer to read books like this once the series is complete like I did with 'Tragic' to 'Guns' so now I have to wait.
I honestly can't even begin to describe or break down this book it was amazing, truly fantastic and it literally has everything love, loyalty, murder, lies, deceit, kidnapping, secrets, dark, dark life changing secrets, plots, betrayal and....the list just goes on and on.

Love James & Harper

Every book I have read of JA's has never left me disappointed. I absolutely love James and Harper, I can't get enough of their story. When James is with Harper you know that is where they should be together but not everyone wants that. Exciting, thrilling and of course you can't forget about Sasha. Well written and a kick #ass story.

COME
I loved this introduction into a new world with its new (ish) characters. Though the start and a few times after that was a little slow going for me, I felt my attention wandering as I just had so many questions throughout the book but it did keep me intrigued and had kept me going to find out more. I know those answers will be revealed later, and I absolutely can’t wait to find out what happens with Harper and James, but I’m so impatient I’m dying to find out what they are.
Harper took me a little while to like her character, there was just something about her that I wasn’t a fan of. But I was loving James right from the very start. I loved how they first met and the connection they had right away. I really enjoyed their interactions and their steamy moments throughout this read.
4 stars

COME BACK
A great continuation in the series. There were a lot of questions answered from the previous book but new questions just replaced them and piled up, I’m dying to know! This book was packed with emotions, some funny, hot and sexy scenes, turns and surprises that I’m almost certain I’ve figured out.
I loved the growing connection and interactions between James and Harper. I really enjoyed the introductions to new characters especially Sasha. I knew she’d be such a fun and quirky character when I was first introduced to her in a previous JA Huss book, I really loved her whole persona and the way she took things on. I loved James’ POV right from the start especially when he first met Sasha. I enjoyed getting to know more about all 3 characters - James, Harper and Sasha and the rollercoaster journey they go on.
There were some parts that were a little slow going for me but it didn’t take long for the story to pick up and suck me right back in to keep me entertained.

So many secrets, who can you trust? James Fenici killed his own brother and probably watched his sister get sold to another assassin. Since getting a glimpse of his role in the Spencer book, I was interested to read how/why he loved Amber. But in this book, he seems to invested in Harper Tate, the girl that was ‘promised’ to him when they both turned Six. A promise he turned down knowing it was wrong. He’s an assassin with a conscience maybe? And we see 13 year old Sasha as a wild know-it-all, dinosaur loving, kick ass kid. Her father trained the ‘hunters’ and so she got all the best lessons in life on how to hunt until her father was killed. I really want to know more about her role in this. She seems quite capable but just like how Harper is deadly, they both seem to freeze and all their training goes out the window.

Who is really working for who and who do they think is the one giving/leaving messages on all the random phones that just appear wherever they happen to shelter? Oh and what is with James’ blackouts?

It’s a JA Huss world and we’re all just living in it. This Trilogy Series starting with the Rook & Ronin series is a journey, yes a journey. And each series just keeps getting better and better and better.

You do not HAVE TOO read the 2 other series Rook & Ronin & Rook & Ronin Spinoff before you read this series, but… Things are weaved together in a way I could never think of… looking back I’m like WOW. Like I said, you don’t have to read her previous series to read these books. But I’m telling you now, if you have read them- you’re in for a treat! You get these little moments that a light bulb clicks on in your mind and you realize these connections between characters and events. It’s pretty awesome.

The characters in DD&D are more integrating, more dangerous, more alpha, more confusing, and sexier than ever. I can’t believe all that happened in a just a few shorts days (?...maybe a week.) In classical JA Huss style I was thoroughly confused the entire time I was reading. Thank god she allowed her characters to be confused right along with me and recap some stuff along the way (phew!). There was so much that happened, so many facts, I’m still digesting it, remembering it. All I want to do is run to my secret place and start Coming For You . But I think I will wait. Yes, I will wait. I’m gonna give it a day and let all that just happened sink in. Because I have no idea what the hell just happened!!!!

James
James - DDD photo james_zpsalz9r0f4.jpg

James is a man on a mission. This is probably the only thing I know for a fact about James. Everything else, I’m not sure. I loved hearing more about his past. Getting his perspective really gave me a little more understanding about what’s going on. James is an alpha. He is a sexy bad ass. In this story, he shows a bit of his softer side that I didn’t think he even had. Harper brings that out in him and I love them together! But James has a problem, a couple actually – he has too many jobs and he can’t remember what he’s doing.

Trust. It’s something that doesn’t come easy to any one in ‘The Company’. James is determined to make Harper trust him. But that’s difficult. He is in a position where he can’t divulge everything. As long as Harper knows she’s protected, that she can trust James no matter what, he’s okay.

“Take a risk on me. I’m on your side, Harper.”

Harper
Harper - DDD photo Harper_zpsyru0wti1.jpg

Harper wants to trust James, she really does, but something is holding her back. Deep down, she knows. Knows he’s keeping things from her. ”This game they’re playing”, this mission they’re on… the stakes are high. Harper is an awesome heroine. I really feel for her and what she is going through. I love all the flashbacks into her time with her brother, her linked past with James and how she ended up where she is today. I like that she is vulnerable but still independent. Brave but scare as shit.

He’s not on my side. I’m a job to him. A dirty promise. A dark obsession maybe.”

Sasha
Sasha - DDD photo Sasha_zpsirhstf0b.jpg

It’s been just James and Harper, but now, it’s not just the two of them anymore. There is a new addition added to the mix. Who is she? Where did she come from? If you’ve read Slack, you know who she is. She’s a very memorable character in that book. If you haven’t, it’s okay. Sasha is a 13 year old girl. But she’s lived a life that makes her seem older than she is sometimes. Then there are other times, you realize she is just a kid. Sasha may have even more trust issues than Harper.
She’s lived a Company life just the same, but wasn’t sheltered as much. She knows something’s and she’s lived a hard life for a 13 year old. I love Sasha. I really felt for her and her situation. I hated how James and Harper were treating her at times…I wanted them to comfort her, but then I remember the book I was reading and that – that was not possible. But even so, I felt such sadness for her and just fell for this character! This girl… she was kick ass on a whole different level than Harper. And the fact that she loves Ford makes her my new bff.

Merc was right, I guess. I’m a crybaby. And you hate me, don’t you?”

That ending. Holy crap. The cliffhanger wasn’t terrible (I’m not even sure if I would classify it as an actual cliffy), because a lot is explained. Even so, I have so many more questions. I can’t wait for the answers to unfold. And to see how JA will end this awesome series. Give me more James, more Harper, more Sasha and I really want some more Merc!

I love a book that can keep my heart racing, my mind running and keep me invested page after page after page. I want to go back and re-read because I feel like I may have missed some things. JA’s writing is amazing. Sometimes when reading her stories, I think how in the world does she come up with this shit? I have no idea and I don’t even care. I’m just glad she does. Come Back is full of excitement, inventiveness, steam and action. Lots of action. And even some love. This is an intriguing series you won’t want to miss out on!!!

3 1/2 Stars of a twisted story

This book has a lot going on.its difficult to follow. Maybe that's what the author is going for but I'm not sure if I'm up for the next book to find out. It all seems a bit far fetched and maybe for younger readers.

COME

Holy hell!! I thought I loved JA Huss' Rook and Ronin series, but this novella is the beginning of something amazing and I LOVED IT! There are sizzling scenes, thrown into a gripping story that held me until that final page… I want more NOW!

Harper, she is a quiet girl, and I was wondering about her secrets right from the start. Throughout this novella some of them are revealed, but there is still so much more to know!

James… Wow! He is something else. He is dominating and plans everything! He sets Harper on fire with simple touches but his words are just as hot! He is very secretive and only reveals snippets of information to Harper, but their worlds are more entwined than what she realises.

This little story definitely pulled me in, I was in suspense wanting more information, the intimate scenes and scorching but the plot had me captivated! There is so much more in this world and I am dying for more!

COME BACK

Action packed from beginning to end and I was still left wanting more!

James… well he is still dark and mysterious, but it was good to see more of him in this book. We learnt more about his world and what he has been through. I liked seeing how far back their connection went and seeing the turmoil he had to deal with. Just imagining this lethal man has my heart beating flat out… He is the perfect package, but can make you disappear in the blink of an eye!

Harper, she has been through a lot as well, and in Come Back I saw more about her and her past too. Harper and James still have an amazing bond and their time alone is pretty intense! Throughout Come and the first part of Come Back she was pretty hard core and careful, but she seemed to have let her guard down in the last part of the story. Don't get me wrong, I still love her, I just felt that she wasn't as cautious like she should have been. I liked seeing Sasha too! She is so fiery and pushes everyone’s buttons. Her secrets are what keep everyone on edge and I love the way she can stir trouble!

Come Back was simply fantastic! J.A. Huss sure sucks me into her incredible world, gives me characters that I love and she has me on the edge of my seat. The story line is quite intense, but the intimate scenes were scorching! James and Harper are a couple I am not going to forget and I cannot wait to see what happens with them next!

A long while back, I bought anthology of book previews. There were a few chapters of an incredible story about runaway girl and assassins with code names. It was so hot. When I went to find the story, it wasn’t available. Then my first generation Kindle died and there went my “Follow-up” collection.

Flash forward many months later, I kept thinking of this story. I didn’t remember the author or the name of the story since it was with an anthology. I put what I could remember about the story in a post for a book lover’s group. Immediately, I got back Dirty, Dark and Deadly trilogy. I was so excited. It was better than I remembered and so much more.

The story alternates between Harper and James’ POV. The story is romantic fast paced action packed thriller. When you mix assassins and mystery organization that rules the world together, you don’t know who to trust. Harper doesn’t know whether to trust James. She wants to but doesn’t know how. Trust is earned. She’s attracted to him like a magnet. The pull to him is undeniable and familiar. James has waited a long time to talk to and be with Harper. James and Harper are hot together. James has a very dirty mouth and the scenes are on the erotic side of the spectrum. It was oh so good.

The story has so many twists and turns. There was quite a few oh sh!t moments that I didn’t see coming. While this book does have romance in it, remember it also has assassins. There is plenty of violence and action. Harper blows me away with her bada$$ self. James is fierce and hot.

I am so glad I was late to this series because I don’t think I would have survived the wait from book 2 to book 3! The hangover would have been brutal. As soon as I finished this yesterday, I immediately bought book 3 and devoured it. Highly recommend this series.

I was introduced to JA Huss when Come was published as part of the Bend anthology. Then I read Rook and Ronin, then the following novella about Ford Aston, and was introduced to Sasha. In a few days, JA will wrap up Sasha's story in Wasted Lust, so I was determined to try to catch up on Sasha's storyline, having her cross my path in the recent Meet Me in the Dark. JA Huss writes one helluva suspenseful story. I have one more book to complete James and Harper's story which includes Sasha in a big way. I won't catch up before reading Wasted Lust, but I know I will eventurall put all these stories in line and put together the whole story of Sasha and The Company from Ford's introduction to her at the Antique Mall on Christmas Eve to the end. JA lets readers enjoy these books as standalones--we may know some of the secrets, but like James, Harper and SAsha, we don't know all of the secrets. Suspenseful and well-written. JA Huss is one of my favorite authors for a good reason: she's an excellent storyteller. One of the best.

Entering the world and mind of an assassin like James Fenici should be revolting to any normal peace-loving woman. Guess this just proves I'm not normal, because I absolutely loved these two stories! James can take me away to his world of murder and mayhem any time he wants. The secret world of mega criminals that Harper and James live in is so well thought out and so believable I'm ready to sign my name to any conspiracy group petition that wants to expose them to the world. The convoluted storyline is mesmerizing. Literally could not put these two stories down and couldn't get on hands on the last book in their story fast enough.

I had read Come in the Bend Anthology a while back and that is how I discovered J.A. Huss. I started from the beginning with Rook and Ronin and now I reread Come and finally read Cone Back. So many twists and turns my head is spinning. I love romance and I love smut but this series is on a whole other level. They are so smart and planned out. I love how she gives little tidbits on other characters here and there. And the way she writes her characters, you can't help but love them, or really loathe them. Strong feelings either way.

Falling in love!

I have to say, I wasn't too happy about where this book was going with sashes character at first. After reading the last half of come back, I'm totally on board with it! I have been on a big roller coaster ride trying to decide whether to trust james or not also. I am starting to trust him now! Excellent writing and so creative!

Usually I'm not into New Adult books but this one was pretty "adult"! It's got a little bit of mystery, a little bit of dark and a little bit of naughty, nutty and crazy to keep it interesting. I love James but he's still a mystery to me. He hasn't revealed all his cards yet. Sasha, also a mystery... I can't figure the girl out! On to book 3 to get ALL my questions answered.

This is a very violent story set in a cut throat world. The heroine kills several people and the hero kills dozens. I wish for more brotherly love and less brotherly homicide. I think JA Huss is an excellent writer and I tried hard to love these two books.
