Killer Moms #3

Cougar Mom

Rate this book
Older is not only sexier, it’s more dangerous too.
Meredith is practically old enough to be the mother of some of the younger Killer Mom agents, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to retire. With her kids off to university, it is past time this Cougar Mom goes back to fieldwork. And she gets the perfect opportunity when she offers to help organize a wedding in the Caribbean…while completing a mission.
When an accident leaves her with no memory, she has no idea that the man caring for her, the one she’s falling for, is her target.
Hugo isn’t exactly a good man. He’d be the first to admit that he’s ruthless, yet he’s a different person around Meredith. A kind and gentle lover—until he’s betrayed.
When the truth of Meredith’s identity is revealed, he wants nothing to do with her, but that changes when she’s kidnapped, and he realizes that he made the mistake of falling in love with a killer mom.

So much fun

I am loving this series! Merry and Hugo were just awesome and I’m sorry, but Gerome kind of stole the whole show for me! I hope there’s some peek-a-boo scenes with him in future books.

I waited to finish both the BBI and KM series to write a review because I wanted to be sure I had the big picture of how the 2 agencies interacted over time because Book 6 of the BBI series totally confused me. Now that I have finished, I can say that there is a lot to praise in how Langlais developed Meredith’s character not only in the before becoming a Killer Mom and after, but intriguingly who she was without her memory. Hugh Laurentian was not as well developed but remained compelling. What was hugely frustrating was how careless the author was with the broader cast of characters there for Carla and Philip’s wedding. There were several instances of characters acting out of character, missing transitions in the action, contradictions in the timeline and in character details from previous books. The most obvious of these was that after writing an entire book, Killer Daddy, about Audrey’s romance with DECLAN, for this book and the next Langlais has her married to Mason, another BBI 2nd tier character. These numerous mistakes made her scene where Carla tells Meredith she is Tanya to test her memory fall flat because it just seemed like another mistake. Langlais’ output as an author is mind boggling and she definitely can turn out a good story. It’s a shame that the mistakes and contradictions detract from that.

Missing Merry and Mermaids

Whilst I do love this story, there were so!e technical issues in her with Eve much up characters names, for instance Audrey according to this is with Mason but in the book it was Declan with Mason helping him.
This would only be noticed by regular readers though.
In this one, Merry is washed up on a rich guy's beach with amnesia and a head injury.
Grumpy reclusive older guy Hugo is irritated by Her but still sees her brought to the hospital.
Meanwhile Carla is getting ready for her wedding but missing her wedding planner.
Apart from the issues mentioned, this is a nice midlife romance with all the baggage that entails but lots of laughs and sexy moments.

Loved this one especially Hugo at your first impression of him is not a keen one but, as the story progresses you see the man grow, flourish, and let go of some not all of his trust issues but, One thing for sure is he cannot let go of the attraction and chemistry with the woman who ended up up on his doorstep. Loved the chemistry between him and Meredith and how she wormed her way into his heart without of even trying. The story took some twists and turns that added to more of the mystery that surrounded both of their situations. Turns out this is one of my favorite couples in this series. New author for us and we are really enjoying her stories this series was a lot of fun to read.

Good book. I enjoyed listening to this book. It’s interesting when Meredith, who’s an assassin for hire loses her memory and is rescued by jaded Hugo. She ends up staying with him while she figures things out. They tried to fight their attraction for each other but it’s a losing battle. It got interesting when she meets up with her other Killer Mom friends and don’t recognize them. This is an enjoyable book even though I’m not a fan of an MC having amnesia.

These two were just extremely interesting! Hugo is a bit of a mystery, you aren’t quite sure what is going on or why, and Ariel, well, she is a source of all sorts of different things. Amnesia, wow, no wonder Hugo was suspicious, but I completely fell in love with them both, and how they interacted with each other, wonderful and entertaining. Plus, a wedding, so catching up with some of our favourites <3

COUGAR MOM is the third in Eve Langlais’s Killer Moms series, about trained operatives working in the public eye. Meredith meets Hugo Laurentian under odd circumstances, frustrating them both as an accident has taken her memories.

Eve Langlais has penned a fast-paced, sexy and totally entertaining story.

MY RATING GUIDE: 3.5 Stars. I enjoyed this.
1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I ENJOYED THIS; 4= I liked it a lot; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

COUGAR MOM, #3 is a Romantic Suspense novel by Eve Langlais, part of her Killer Mom series. I previously read Soccer Mom and Hockey Mom of the same series and they are reviewed separately. COUGAR MOM is an amnesia story and goes in a different direction than the previous 2 books. It has a less outrageous style (less gun-packing-assassin action scenes) while keeping the same light, easy reading/listening style.

Meredith/FMC is an assassin for hire who is attacked while swimming by moonlight in the sea on her first evening in the Bahamas. A hard blow to her head causes amnesia. Hugo/MMC, a wealthy and seclusive landowner, discovers her in the surf near his home. He has many enemies, a price on his head and immediately distrusts Meredith’s sudden appearance and her claims of amnesia. When accidents begin occurring inside and around Hugo’s estate, Hugo begins searching for answers. Is Meredith to blame or is she another target? Besides Meredith, who else wants Hugo (or perhaps Meredith) dead? Exactly, who is Meredith and does she really have amnesia? Meredith claims she can provide no answers and is wondering the same.

What I liked:
1) COUGAR MOM was narrated by voice artist Marie Smith who voiced both the men and women characters believably and rather well.
2) I found COUGAR MOM a good “escape” novel. It kept my interest, read easily and quickly and was light in style. Sometimes I simply want a “breezy” read - COUGAR MOM fit this mood.
3) Since COUGAR MOM was obviously different in format than the 2 previous novels, I wasn’t sure where it would go. This helped keep my interests.
4) I felt Meredith’s background was presented significantly enough that that I could identify with her. I might not make the same life choices she made but I could understand why someone else might. I found her a likable character in a Crazy kind of way.
5) Langlais wrote Hugo as a mysterious component. The reader was never sure until the end if he was a good guy or a bad guy. We were also kept in the dark as to whether Hugo was Meredith’s target or someone else (before she lost her memory) which made COUGAR MOM somewhat of a mystery.

What I liked less:
1) Due to the mysterious nature of Hugo’s identity, I felt he was a shadowy presence. We learn very little about him until the very end. Therefore, I found it somewhat difficult to identify with him as a main character.
2) I actually preferred the craziness of the first 2 books (gun-packing assassins hired for a hit) to the tameness of COUGAR MOM. I have read little to compare to either HOCKEY MOM or SOCCER MOM and found them rather outrageous and wonderful “decompressing” novels - rather like a good session of kick-boxing. In comparison, COUGAR MOM was a yoga class.

READER CAUTIONS - not recommended to YAs or readers who prefer Clean fiction.
VIOLENCE - Yes. The MCs are assassins for hire.
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used frequently.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. Steamy scenes & open door intimacy occurs more than once.

I purchased the 4 book audio collection of KILLER MOMS by Eve Langlais (Soccer Mom, Hockey Mom, COUGAR MOM and Tiger Mom) and am adding each additional book review as I complete it.

His!!!

Meredith, a member of the Killer Moms Agency, she might be older than the other agents but she was as dangerous if not more than them. With her children all grown and away at college now she could do what she always wanted to do, some field work. And when the opportunity came she jumped at it. She was hired to plan a Caribbean wedding for Carla ( SOCCER MOM ) and as luck would have it, her target was there also. But then things got complicated when she suffered an accident.

She woke up with no memories and the man taking care of her was none other than her target, Hugo Laurentian. The latter was a well known criminal, he did some things that would make people shake in their boots but when it came to the woman in his care, he was a different man.

As their bond grew, Meredith's people were looking for her and when they did find her. Let's just say that things didn't go as anyone expected. Hugo learned the truth about Meredith and pushed her away which was to be expected. She then found herself in peril and he realized that no matter what she'd done, she was already under his skin.

Along with some help from the Killer Moms, they came to the conclusion that someone set them all up, they were used. Hugo went to get his beloved Ariel aka Meredith. The enemy didn't know what hit him ;).

It was a treat to catch up with some old characters that felt like a reunion between friends and meeting new ones. Loved seeing both agencies coming together. Their families kept expanding and they couldn't be happier.

COUGAR MOM is the third book in Eve Langlais' KILLER MOMS series. It was a marvelous ride. I'm looking forward for more in this series. Magnificent job by Eve Langlais. 5++++

AUDIBLE
Enjoyable in audible though I listened at a faster speed.
The amnesia plot line is annoying but worked okay.
BOOK REVIEW
Enjoyable and entertaining read.
Great story, pity about the wrong, already paired characters being put together.
Loved the overall storyline but why is it intimated more than once, that Mason and Audrey are an item. (Audrey had told her just that morning that she was pregnant. She and Mason couldn’t be any happier.)
Audrey is with Declan, (BAD BOY INC 5-KILLER DADDY). Mason is another BBI operative.
Ms Langlais has mixed her own characters up. NEEDS RECTIFYING.
Hugo was the perfect match for Meredith, once he got his head on straight.
I think without the amnesia factor, a plot-line I usually abhor, Merry probably wouldn’t have given Hugo a chance.

Cougar Mom

An incredible and exciting book about one of the killer moms named Meredith and her lack of memory caused by an attack on a beach in the Bahamas. She is on the island for a mission and also as the coordinator of another killer mom's wedding. Having amnesia and being saved by a handsome man named Hugo is quite unnerving especially since he calls her Ariel after the little mermaid because of her red hair and no other known name . The attraction between them is intense but danger soon comes knocking and it is evident the target is Meredith. Will he continue to be her hero or will the attraction between them fizzle once they know who she really is?

My favorite books are those with older heroes/heroines who have it all figured out... that is, who THINK they have it all figured out! Meredith and Hugo have it all, and are both badasses, and they literally meet their match when they encounter the other. But can they both get over the strange pasts that they each have and find their way to a happily ever after?

Add in some awesome side characters (hello, other KMs!!!), a billionaire's mansion, and exotic beach locations, and this is the perfect summer read. Or summer in January, as that's when it released!

Really enjoyed reading the Killer Mom books. Tough take charge while still taking care of kids and their "sisters" and "Mother". Started Cougar Mom this afternoon and could not put it down until I finished it. Great story line and awesome to see everyone taking care of each other. Hugo and Ariel aka Merry are both determined not to take it further then just one time. 😂 yeah right. When you are with a Killer Mom once is never enough. 😍
