Lt. Fallyn Damara was sent by the Sectors to investigate a strange transmission from an isolated planet and determine whether the residents of a vanished colony had been transported there by alien enemies. Fallyn’s ship crashes and she’s taken prisoner by the Khagrish scientists, to await her fate in the slate of horrifying experiments being conducted.
Reede, the second ranking enforcer in the Badari Warrior pack, volunteers to be recaptured by the Khagrish in an effort to locate and rescue Fallyn inside the deadly lab complex.
While a prisoner Reede discovers Fallyn is the woman destined to become his fated mate but the moment is bittersweet because Fallyn will be leaving their world at the first opportunity, to report back to the Sectors. He refuses to complete the mate bond, believing to do so will lead to nothing but lifelong misery for them both, separated by lightyears and interstellar politics.
For her part, Fallyn wants to shake up the rule-bound enforcer and persuade him to take a chance on love.
But first they have to escape the Khagrish.
This is the tenth book in the Badari Warriors world (and the ninth book in the numbered series) and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels! USA Today Best Selling Science Fiction & Paranormal Romance author.
Veronica Scott grew up in a house with a library as its heart. Dad loved science fiction, Mom loved ancient history and Veronica thought there needed to be more romance in everything. When she ran out of books to read, she started writing her own stories.

Ten books in and the Bardari are finally ready to step up and demand a presence on the world — err, universal — stage. Each time a book ends, it feels weird to continue the overarching story with different characters front & center, but Reede more than any since Aydarr & Mateer. (And we did go back to Mateer for the birth of his daughter, Hope.)
Foolish enforcer, trying to ignore the gift the goddess gave him. Moreso when it was obvious Aydarr had to send a Bardari representative. Clearly Aydaar couldn’t leave. Mateer had a new child and a wife who is essential to the community. Reede was always the right choice. And their mate bond only deepens the link to humanity. Speaking in Fallyn’s voice: “Here is not just the man who saved me, but the man I love. Trust him like you trust me.”
The first time they have sex, Fallyn claims Reede. Talk about waiting to your wedding night. *smirk*

The Bardari discover the facility they think the Sectors scout is being held in and Reede allows himself to be captured. But instead of putting him in with the humans, the Khagrish scientist sets up a new experiment. Pinning Reede to an exam table, covering him with sensors, and parading the human women in one-by-one to see who Reede reacts to. And wouldn’t you know it, Reede finds his potential mate and the Sectors scout he’s been seeking are one in the same.
Fallyn’s first impulse is to release the man chained to the exam table. They work in concert to escape only to be recaptured and thrown in a cell together. Reede convinces the Khagrish to let them frolic in the woods a bit. Apparently Bardari are infertile until mated and the Khagrish wants to use Reede’s swimmers for science. Fallyn plays along with the mate talk, not fully grasping how much is real and how much is Reede giving the scientist what she wants to hear.
This time, they do escape. A brief idle in a cave to get out of the storm the only break in their rapid extraction. While cuddling together for body warmth, Fallyn invites sex, but Reede indicates Bardari are all or nothing with potential mates.
They could have gotten away clean, but Fallyn reasons that nav subsystem on her ship is far more useful to MARL than her personal navigation knowledge. So they hike to the location where her ship went down. Unfortunately, the Khargrish booby trapped the remains. Rather than trying to escape, Reede allows himself to be captured once more, so his fellow Bardari can escape with Fallyn and the nav unit. But Fallyn refuses to go without Reede, and the Bardari warriors yield to Fallyn’s not mate status.
Back at the compound, the Khargrish scientist’s goals have changed. She is sick with a virus that is spreading rapidly, and she is convinced the only cure is Bardari blood. (Seems that biological warfare they tried to kill Nicolle with mutated again.)
The Khargrish also take bone marrow from Reede, and the tech does so in the most painful method possible. Despite not formally mating, Fallyn gets the phantom pain from Reede’s injury.
****
Wonder why they didn’t give Fallyn a transfusion of Reede’s blood before they left. Telepathy might come in handy when negotiating.

Volunteering to be recaptured by the cruel Khagrish takes a brave warrior. Reede must do so to rescue Fallyn. Discovering she is his fated mate is a bitter-sweet revelation. She will leave, while he must stay. Emotions swamp both of them as they escape.
Another terrific story in Scott's Badari Warrior series. Each book is a standalone with recurring characters that adds depth to each story. Great characters, amazing world-building, and a romance destined to fail unless each hero/heroine takes a chance. A fascinating read.
Reede is purposefully captured by the dreaded Khagrish to find Fallyn who had crashed recently from the Sectors. Reede is tortured and has the human female prisoners filed through his cell to check him for a mate bond. Fallyn is last but not least and a first attempt at escape is made.
I have enjoyed the short, short stories in this series. I just wish that someone had done a last read through to fix all the editing errors. Three of these stories would equal one book.
The ninth book in the Sectors New Allies series by Veronica Scott. Lt. Fallyn Damara comes to the planet to investigate a strange transmssion that originated there and see if it is related to the missing colonists from the Sectors. After her ship crashes she is taken prisoner by the Khagrish scientists. Reede, one of the Badari enforcers, volunteers to get captured in order to rescue her. He discovers that this human woman is his fated one.
Once again I enjoyed this addition to the series. While each story shares the same basic plotline, each is unique enough that is hasn't gotten old and stale for me yet.
Ok. I now Reede and Fallyn meet in the labs. The mysterious illness the Khagrish is running rampant. New things come to light and the Sectors mission is coming up. The love story is sweet. Fallyn has to take matters in her own hands. Can't wAit to see what happens next.
