In the Kingdom of Blackwood, we are all pawns in the Storm King’s wicked game.

As a peasant, my days were filled with mining precious jewels I couldn't keep, scraping rock bottom just to afford food, and saving my accident-prone sloth from sudden death on the daily.

Then, a chance encounter with a dying stranger changes everything.
Suddenly, I possess the magical power of the gods.

When the Storm King finds out he asserts his absolute rule and demands I marry one of his four sons. Each of which is sexy as sin with chiseled physiques that rival that of the gods. But despite my undeniable attraction to them, they are still the spawn of an evil snake. Choosing a prince feels damn well impossible, and I hesitate at the very thought.
But the king holds the lives of all those I hold dear in his hands and promises to make them pay for my reluctance.

If I partner with the Storm Princes, who claim to have long resented their father’s tyrannical reign, can we find a way to escape the king’s twisted demands?
Or will our lives remain his to control forever?

TSTL MC. And though the sloth was cute, he was the only somewhat okay thing even though he was interjected left and right to try and add some kind of forced humor to the story.

Mouthy Heroines are my least favorite. There's a line between funny and annoying. Also if I was an evil king, I'd just kill her on the spot for being disrespectful. I'd have a reputation to uphold, a kingdom to run, and I can't do it if people don't fear me lmao. No room here for blurting dumbass people to question my authority XD

Dnf 17%. Interesting concept but very little world building, and the conversations and emotions don't feel believable. Everything feels a bit too shallow.

Plot was thin and fairly predictable -- I'm still not sure where the 180 in feelings came from with the princes, especially Rob. It felt like the feelings came from nowhere; everyone just sort of immediately fell in love with each other, which is rather unbelievable considering the amount of resentment they all had to be feeling for the situation they were in. Moreover, the 'twist' with the princes was completely obvious right away. It was also immediately clear what was going to happen to the FMC's mother

Bravo, Elle Middaugh Bravo. Taken By Storm is the first and hopefully not last RH, by one of my favorite authors. Our girl Lexi is just a simple gem miner with no idea about what is going to happen when goes looking for her pet Speedy during a storm. When she finally meets the Storm Princes, she is shocked by just how much each one drives her crazy and yet drives her to distraction. How is she supposed to choose between them, when each one has something different that draws her to them? And what about the Storm King? What will he do if she can't decide? This is one book that I highly recommend and need the next one like now.

I really enjoyed this! Alexis accidentally gets some Magical powers from a dying man and was taken to the king. The king tells her she must choose one of his sons to marry.
I loved watching Alexis interact with the four Storm brothers. I loved each one of the guys. I can’t wait until the next book!!

That cliffhanger was a freaking killer though! Not at all expecting that!!

I received an audiobook from the author

This book seemed to irritate me right from the beginning. I've read other RH before and there are some really good ones out there. But this one just pushed my buttons. I think it was because the author does not establish the rules of the world. There are some contextual clues. The girl is a gem miner in the woods looking for a sloth. What kind of a world would this be? Is it relevant, futuristic, ancient, or medieval? There is a king on a horse. So, its medieval. I mean, I assumed that. So my mind is geared for a medieval setting. This setting is strengthened by the use of a pick in the mining efforts. But then, it feels like the author is breaks the world to make the female MC relevant, and I am getting mental whiplash. The author is going to make this female MC "tough". To achieve this the author has her spitting profanity that is not relevant to a medieval world, that has been so far introduced. To achieve the goal of having the MC "horny" she has her reading "romance novels", my head cracked here. So, is this a relevant, futurize medieval world? I don't know the author doesn't tell me. The premise of the story is good, but then the believability of the world is being smacked constantly with something that causes the reader to double take, or mentally cringe. It is so irritating.

Why not create a believable female MC with character, and not emancipate her by emphasizing so much on being a mouthy, snarky, immature individual, who wants to argue and spout so badly to be "in control", that the evil king has to literally threaten physical damage to her mother to get her to clam up, and even then she wants to have the "last word" and leaves only when he starts cutting her mother. I mean, the girl comes from the gem mines and lives in a forest, this means her physical strength and agility would be greater. Also, she has had to survive on her own and take care of her mother, this means that she would have had to be intelligent and make sacrifices. This is strength, give her some grit to fit the world. But no, the MC has be a "relevant" parallel universe time traveler that is literally not from the same world as everyone else in the story and it's all mouth, mouth, mouth, blah, blah, blah. I literally jumped paragraphs.

The four dwarves (guys) are of course Sleazey, Nerdy, Responsibly, and Grouchy. Sleazy is because his first girlfriend was murdered by his father the king. Nerdy is because he smart and sweet. Responsibly is because he is responsible. Grouchy is because he sees dead people.

So apparently the MC finds out that empathy is her "second" power. This means she feels after everyone. So maybe that explains her insta-feelings for her guys. I just don't see any other basis of her feelings. She is getting there, has a few interactions with Nerdy, some flirts with Sleazy, and a few bouts with Grouchy, and then "wham" off she goes, running into the forest because she finds out Responsibly is going to host another girl (which he told her about) to prevent a war, and she is jealous. She doesn't want him to make peace, she wants to save her mother, and wants to make out with Responsibly, who cares if thousands will die in the war. Responsibly finds the MC in the woods sleeping in abandoned ruins, has sex with her, asks her to choose him, after all she did throw a fit because he isn't going to give her his attention, and she literally says "No, I want all four of you." "So here is my idea, we're all being victimized by the king together so lets have you four guys "share" me as the "sticky sappy goo" that gets all of your attention and that all you guys are stuck together with by your dicks, and I'll share myself back." Really when the MC actually used the words "sticky sappy goo", I didn't know if I should laugh, cry, or gag. No good RH MC is going to tell the audience that they are the glue that holds the group together. Nobody likes a horn tooter. It is not the responsibility of the MC to tell her audience that she is the glue, if she truly likes the guys and they like her, they will tell her that she is the glue when she deserves it. Hopefully as the series continues maybe she can grow and learn to hold them by their hearts, but so far, not so much.

So I guessed that Asher was the sloth about 75% of the way through the book. Its cheesy and it had to be.

5 Delicious Stars for this HOT and throughly entertaining series starter! This is a debut reverse harem romance for Elle Middaugh. And oh my, did she deliver!! The princes are are incredibly intriguing with each of their strengths coming out to play. It's difficult to choose your favorite amongst them, but I'm sure you'll have a delightful time trying to decide! Lexi is our main character. What starts out like it may just be the best thing to happen to change the circumstances of her as well as her mother and bestie, soon takes a dark turn. The Storm King is the supreme ruler and he does exactly as he pleases. The princes must obey him and court Lexi. She is thrown into a world that she has no idea how to navigate. With tutors and plenty of rules she's trying to catch up. But... the princes keep leaving her hot and bothered and Lexi decides to tease them back. Her pet sloth Speedy comes along for the journey and he is honestly my favorite character! Ms. Middaugh wrote a hilarious tale with a dark twist and surprises that you won't see coming!! Bravo to her introduction into the world of RH!! You're going to want to devour this in one sitting!! You will not be disappointed!! 💗💗💗

Holy moly what a wild ride!! I mean, I’ve read the authors other books and this one is amazing. Suspense, love, drama, adventure, and witty banter are all rolled into one book. And this is a book that I couldn’t put down. No lie! I literally had to force myself to stop reading last night so I could get at least 3 hrs of sleep.

The writing is nothing like I have read from her. She is an author of many talents. This book has a completely different feel than her other books. Which a great! I love authors that are able to write more than 1 type or more than 1 age related genre.

You need to get this book and start this series! You will not be disappointed.

I’m usually not really into reverse harem, but let me tell you all that this is nothing like the others I’ve read! The MC is so funny and has such a potty mouth and I’m here for it! This book has something for everyone. The romance is usually where I find I don’t care for them, but I like how the relationships are built in this book and how every man has something different to offer her. All in all it was a good read!

Taken by Storm is the first book in the new series - Storms of Blackwood by Elle Middaugh.

Right from the first few paragraphs had me hooked by Alexis Ravenel’s story and the Kingdom of Blackwood. Oh and of course her cute, but annoyingly mischievous little pet sloth - Speedy.

Lexi and her Storm Princes aka the Blackwood brothers, is a captivating, fun, emotional, sexy and well written reverse harem story. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read Stormy Nights.

Wonderful and hilarious

This is my first book by this author and it has been a TERRIFIC one! I have laughed so much throughout this entire story. The beginning was a little slow for me because of the length of detail given. However it was only a small portion in the start, it in no way detracted from the flow. I am really excited to read the next book.

Off to the next I go

-RH
-supernatural
-steamy
-series, needs to be read in order (cliffhanger)

I’m not 100% sold on this series yet, but the first book did hook me enough to continue on.. I will read the next book. This series revolves around Lexi and the four storm princes. Lexi, who is a poor miner, accidentally has god-like powers transferred to her in the beginning of the book. When this happens and the evil Storm King finds out, he decides she is to marry one of his four sons, who each have god like powers of their own. Jokes on him though, she wants them all.

Several things were quite predictable, I called The situation with Adam from the very beginning.

❌Rob didn’t like Lexi at all in the beginning, he literally told her he hated her. Throughout the first half of the book, we could see him slowly opening up and being slightly willing to spend some time with her, and then all of a sudden he’s the one wanting them all to be together and form a commitment. It just seemed so sudden, and if it came from anyone else I would have been able to believe it a little more.
❌Lexi kind of gets on my nerves a little. I can’t really explain it, but the verdict is still out on her. I definitely don’t hate her character, I’m just not 100% sold on her yet. And she’s pretty naive. She knows the Storm King is a horrible person, and when he’s already tortured her mother and tells her if she doesn’t follow through with his orders, he will hurt her mom even more. So when evidence shows up that he hurt her mom again because Lexi didn’t follow through with his orders, she literally thinks, “I know her said he would do it, but I just didn’t think he would so soon”. GIRL. He gave you an order and you know you didn’t do it, you know he is evil, so why are you so surprised that when you gambled with your moms life, he followed through with hurting her? Come on.
❌the whole magic/god powers concept is very surface level. It’s almost like an after thought in this book, so I’m really hoping we see more of their powers in the next book.
❌they all know that if they are all together, the Storm king isn’t going to like it. When they decide to be together they say they will just have to keep it a secret. I don’t think any of them really thought this through because each prince is in charge of a different kingdom. If they plan on keeping their relationship a secret forever, how exactly is their relationship going to work when they don’t even live in the same place? Obviously, we know they will eventually defeat the Storm king because what would be the point of the series if they didn’t, but THEY don’t know that yet. The relationship isn’t really thought out well from their perspectives.
❌ugh. The situation with Bria. Prince Cal is betrothed to a fae princess before he ever even meets Lexi. No he doesn’t love Bria and he doesn’t have any sexual interactions with her, but to keep the peace between their kingdoms he literally talks to the group about adding her to their harem so he can have his cake and eat it too. I know he’s trying to prevent a war, but still, ew. That part rubbed me the wrong way, sorry.

Overall, it wasn’t a horrible book... like I said, it hooked me enough that I’ll read the next one. So, here’s to hoping it just gets better and better.

This book is packed with idiotic plot problems.
So. Alexis. What a stupid character. Everything she does or thinks goes against basic logic or emotional response. I guess author tried to play of her rudeness as bravery, but it is nothing of sorts. She is stupid and selfish. From completely forgetting her mother moved to castle with her as support and never once thinking about her for days until confrontation in tower, when suddenly daughtery love surfaced, to being extremely rude and mouthing off to king, who ,even if he was not murderous psychopath, is still a King! From being afraid and disgusted by princes to immediately doing 180 and lusting after them, to falling in love in couple of days. From remembering her suffering mother only while looking at gruesome reminders to ignoring her in favour of her own selfish wants and needlessly risking her mother for frivolous reasons. Every step this girl takes and every thought entering her mind is shallow and egoistic to extreme. How am i supposed to relate or even like her?
The princes. I don't understand why they like Alexis or why they so immediately fell for her. Reader is not given any reasoning or even reasonable idea. Supposedly they suffer, but are kind and care about people, yet people live in powerty saddled with unbearable taxes and so on and so forth. There is no logic or even a sustainable story behind them. Author just throws out pieces of information without care hiw it all will fit with the rest of the story. And I do not like bloody sex scenes. They are not hot. They are disgusting and are taking away the slim chance of me ever liking a couple. Overall, this whole reverse harem trope is done poorly.
The king. Yeah. The big bad. Illogical too. Some pieces fit in the story and some don't. Authors fault.
Sloth. I suppose it was meant as a comedy factor, yet it was forced and not funny at all. Sometimes Alexis care for it, then forget to care, then , i don't know, author uses it to try to add some depth to the story, yet never puts any real effort in it.

As you can guess, the whole story is a mess. It feels like author has no real work or ideas put in it and can't be bothered to tie the whole story together. These are pages and pages of random occurrences that were never really edited in one wholesome story.

If you decide to give this book a shot, expect to cringe a lot, gag a little bit and don't be disappointed when you realise how you have wasted your time reading it.

THIS BOOK!!
AH!!!
THIS FREAKIN' BOOK!

First of all, this book had me reading until 5 in the freakin' morning, bleary-eyed and laughing and sobbing like a loon, and I don't regret that one bit! It was soooo good. Not just good, but brilliant! I can't believe this is the first RH story the author wrote because it has to be on my list of top five RH novels for me. I don't know how I'm going to pick up another book while I still have everything that occurred in this book dancing in my mind. The plot was a-freakin'-mazing and unlike anything I've read in the past, so that alone was captivating, but then you add the Storm brothers, Alexis (Or my favorite nickname for her, Jewels) and you have a kick-a** RH story you won't be able to put down!

Every guy in this story is interesting and have redeeming qualities--although, in the beginning, the guys did NOT impress me, but that was due to a good reason that I don't blame the men for--and I honestly love each brother equally. Well, Benson is my absolute favorite Storm brother, but after him I can't choose between the guys. They each have redeeming qualities that I love and admire. And this powers? Crazy cool, amazing, and intriguing to read about!

My favorite thing about this book? Besides the facts that the heroine is kick-a**, funny as h*ll, and has a suicidal pet sloth who honestly cracked me the h*ll up? The guys weren't the stereotypical RH heroes who all loved sharing and never got jealous. Oh, no. These guys got jealous, even though they were brothers, and instead of acting like children about it all the time, they talked it out as a group so no one was left out or felt hurt. THAT is a realistic RH relationship to me. I like a little jealously. I like the fact that the guys loved each other and had each others backs, but still got jealous and fought like brothers would. It was realistic, adorable, and pretty hot! I wouldn't mind four brothers fighting over me hahaha

I'm so over-the-moon excited about the next book in the series and I'll be here, waiting patiently, until I can see what happens next! That cliffhanger at the end must be my favorite cliffhanger EVER! The author has a real talent for words and I know the next book is going to blow my mind!

Man I don’t think I have the words to do this book justice!

I adore all of Elle Middaugh’s books so when I heard about this one I jumped at the chance to read it! It is a reverse harem-which I’m just getting into. But it’s not just a romp in the hay book-it has an actual amazing story to it!!

The main character Lexi is a strong willed, stubborn, and feisty character that you can really love. She doesn’t back down and she’s no wilting flower that’s for sure! There are 4 truly epic men in this book that you get to sink your teeth into-and a sloth! That’s right Lexi has a pet sloth and it is amazing!

The descriptions are , as always, top notch. I can picture everything from her gowns to the men and back to her living quarters. It is a very steamy book that will have you gasping for breath one moment to laughing your head off the other. The lines between sex and humour are perfectly in line and it’s that mix that makes this book so special.

I’m definitely recommending his book to all my friends! This is a fantastic read that I can’t get enough of and look forward to book number two!!

I need the next book ASAP. After a very stressful first week of classes, I needed something to read for pleasure, and no better choice I made than reading this book. It was witty, funny and hot. I'm waiting (impatiently) for her next release! ;)

Alexis is a commoner, until one day she meets a dying man in the forest and find herself with powers. Of course the king wants her, and he makes her choose one of his four sons to marry. Alexis moves to the castle and she gets to meet Cal, Ben, Dan and Rob. She expected to find four assholes, but little did she know that they much similar to her than she thought. And choosing just one is not an option for her. If you add a loving best friend and a suicidal sloth to the mix, it becomes the perfect combo!

I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

OMG This book was amazing! I was totally not expecting to love this book so much! It is so different from my style but I loved it! This was also the first book I have read by Elle Middaugh and she did not disappoint!
Alexis spun into a world she never wanted to be in, but at the end of the day, she never wanted to leave due to some sexy Princes! The Storm King, who I absolutely HATE, is trying to pawn Alexis off to one of his sons. Little did he expect for all 4 to want to be with her.
That ending had my heart tearing inside for Alexis pet sloth, but then I became completely shocked with what happened next! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Little Rushed, but good. 3.5 rounded up

Medium burn, first person, single POV, fantasy RH, Cliffhanger

I liked the overall concept of this book and enjoyed quite a few laughs along the way, but it did feel a bit rushed. The character development, at least for the guys - a quartet of brothers - was sorely lacking. Emotions and heat spawned very quickly, leaving much of the plot begins in favor of forcing a bond. That said, it was still fun and I’ll continue the series - because of the sloth. Trust me. The sloth is everything.

Pros:
- Intriguing.
- For once, women are not pitted against each other, not really.
- Mythology.

Cons:
- Rushed.
- I need to understand WHY those emotions are there, not just told about them.

Wow- just wow. Hells yesssss for the sloth in the book! I couldn't wait to see what trouble he would get into. Loved the brothers. So similar yet so unique in their personality traits. Really enjoyed reading about their powers and wish to read more about their individual kingdoms. Alexis is strong and very verbal in what she wants. The Storm King is the big bad that is always lurking in the background but very rarely seen directly, which is a good thing for Alexis and the guys. The blowback from their powers is a neat addition. Ending is a huge cliffhanger and a humorous one at that. Overall a fantastic read. Ok - ready for the next Storms of Blackwood book like NOW!

Enjoyable read with great characters

I really enjoyed this book. I especially like the characters - all of the guys and the FMC. The villain of the storyline is truly hateful. But I think my favorite thing is the actual story line. I live the bits of mythology and the development of the relationships between the characters. Totally worth picking up.

Could not finish

The story starts of with a renaissance feel. There are no cats, etc. they travel in carriage. The villages have little interaction outside their own. But the characters speak like they are teenagers in the newest young adult movie. I couldn’t finish it. I didn’t even make it until the whole plot line revealed itself. It was that bad.
