Oh, was this bio day? Oops! I forgot. I was lost in my latest manuscript. Umm... bio. Yeah.

Hi! I’m Chautona Havig. (for those who care, that’s Shuh-TONE-uh HAVE-ig). Yeah. Just work with me here. I should have used a pseudonym, but when you grow up with a name like Chautona, it kind of sticks.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10: 23–25

Those aren’t just words on a page for me–they’re why I write. I write to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. The stories I create are to make people laugh, cry, question, consider.

They’re for you.

When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.

Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.

And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”

Christian fiction without apology or pretense–lived, not preached.
What does that even mean?
It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.

But I do.

And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!

And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.

I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.

Wow, Chautona Havig is now an auto buy author for me! CHRISTMAS ON BREAKERS POINT is my second book by her but holy cow! She had my emotions all over the place. Once I started reading, it was very hard to stop! The twists and turns made it impossible to put down, as I had to know what was going to happen to Mallory . What an awesome story. All of Chautona's characters feel genuine and relatable and put your emotions on one heck of a roller coaster ride. As you are reading, you will find yourself cheering for all of them, praying they can make Uncle Bud's last wish happen.

CHRISTMAS ON BREAKERS POINT is all about people in a small island town who come together to help an elderly man and his niece as they live through his last days before his expiration. I had to know what was going to happen to Mallory and all the secondary characters. All Uncle Bud wants is for Joanie to accept Jesus so she and Geoff can be married. Once you start reading CHRISTMAS ON BREAKERS POINT it will be very hard to put down!

CHRISTMAS ON BREAKERS POINT is without a doubt one of the funnest and saddest books I've read in 2019 so far. I was instantly emotionally invested in all of the characters. Mostly, they all kept me laughing on one page and then tearing up but the banter between Mallory and her uncle Bud is hysterical. Chautona Havig is such a wonderful and heart tugging author and she had me laughing and crying on the very same page. I am now going to read all of her previous books and she has just made a new fan forever! Grab your copy today and get on the couch!

When I got a late birthday present -- an Amazon gift card -- I knew I had to order a book, I ended up ordering Christmas on Breakers Point since I am going to try to read the whole series in paperback since I'm so excited for the books.

So, I should mention that several of Mrs. Havig's other books were on the consideration list but this book just would not leave me alone.

And now I know it was because this book has such a wonderful message. I have only come across one author who makes me think so much about questions brought up in their books … Chautona Havig is a one of a kind and Christmas on Breakers Point showed that with the endearing love of --- for --- when she left behind her beliefs for a time.

Yes, this is a hard story to read. It's not often an author focuses on death without it being a suspense but in Christmas on Breakers Point Chautona Havig shows an incredible amount of faith.

I am even more excited about the rest of the series, I cannot wait to get them and I may just break my dare not to buy books for a year to buy them in paperback. We shall see.

Every year I intend to read lots of Christmas books during November and December, but somehow this doesn’t usually happen. When your to-read list has gone well past the point of no return, it becomes difficult to fit in all of the books that you expect to get through. As a book reviewer, it’s nice to have a set schedule in advance, and another perk is the opportunity to branch out and take a chance on books that are different from what you usually choose. “Christmas on Breakers Point” fits the bill! I have to admit that I am not at all an island or beach girl, although I have always loved lighthouses, and I’m not gung-ho for romances either, so I had some trepidation going into this one. As it turns out, I ended up enjoying it immensely!

Blending a variety of engaging elements together, Chautona Havig writes “Christmas on Breakers Point” with both sadness and joy interlaced into each chapter. Despite being a short book, it reads like a full-length novel, with detail and depth that are not rushed yet also not dawdling. Had I known the plotline beforehand, I likely would have passed this one up for fear that it would be too sad, and this is just another reason that I like to enter into a book figuratively blind. One of the main characters has terminal cancer and an unattainable wish for Christmas, but thankfully God does the impossible every day, and He often works through people.

With finesse, Havig offers a story that is layered with sorrow yet filled with hope and joy. A terminal illness, lost love, and renounced faith all figure prominently, but I did not once think that the narrative was depressing. Instead, I found myself inspired by the sacrificial love and deep conversations of the characters, highlighting a multitude of passages that I felt were convicting and very pertinent in this day and age. Mallory seems to speak to the prodigal in all of us when she says, “You have decided how you want things to be, and because they’re not, you’re crying foul. You define what He does by what you want rather than what it is. He speaks to us today. Don’t tell me His Word doesn’t.” What it all comes down to is that life is not about us, but about HIM. “If you’re going to choose a cause over Jesus, then you’re choosing to die for that cause. You’re throwing what Jesus did for you and for all mankind up in His face.” When we follow His Word and walk in faithful obedience to Him, we have joy; all other paths lead to death.

There is so much to love about this first book in the Independence Islands series. It will make you laugh, cry, and cheer. Although obviously a great holiday read, this is one that can easily be enjoyed at any time of year. I think that everyone needs an Uncle Bud in their lives to speak truth, love, guide, and pray them through the good and the bad. One line from the book beautifully encapsulate the story: “A lifetime of moments could be summarized in a Breakers Point sunset.”

I received a complimentary copy of this book through CelebrateLit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

Mallory Barrows is taking a leave of absence from her job to take care of her Uncle Bud who only has a couple of months to live. They have a close relationship, and Mallory wants to be there for him until the end.

This book is so well written that you feel every emotion of the main characters. Uncle Bud is one amazingly strong, faith filled Christian who can't wait til his "expiration date" to go home to Jesus. Mallory is stronger than she knows, and her faith helps her through as Uncle Bud declines more each day. Uncle Bud has one Christmas wish. He wants to see Joanie, Mallory's friend, find her way back to her faith and marry Geoff, a strong Christian who won't be unequally yoked.

Christmas plays a wonderful thread throughout this story, and I loved how Bud's church brought church to him, so he could be part of it. The HEA ending was sweet and touching, and the epilogue gives a hint of where Mallory's life is headed next.

This story. I’m not even sure where to start. Emotions maybe – they were all over the place. One minute I was smiling and even chuckling, the next minute I was crying my eyes out. Then a moment after that I was in awe of how well written a scene was. Then back to smiling, crying, well you get the picture. I think this might be my favorite story by Havig. And yes it may be shorter than some, but that doesn’t mean it can’t pack a punch, and a big one at that.

I could not even imagine being in Mallory’s position, but by the first few chapters I was engrossed in her character and feeling every emotion right along with her. Havig doesn’t just tell this story, she makes her readers feel the story. What’s even better is that she is not afraid to make some waves and write about **gasp** ways that Christians today behave/act that they shouldn’t be. She’s just so straight to the point about it, and I think that’s exactly what I love her writing. Havig isn’t afraid to step on your toes, and by the way that is not her intent. The intent is so a reader can grow, so a reader can ponder what they’ve read (I’ve done this several times after reading a Chautona Havig book), and hopefully make an impact on their life.

But back to the story.

I want an Uncle Bud in my life. What a dear, sweet character that I found myself hanging on to every word. He had a plan all along for our girl Mallory, and he played out it so well. But I think the thing that captured my heart the most was the way he was with Mallory. He didn’t baby her (too much anyways), he just loved her. They had this special bond that I have never had with a relative of mine. But it makes me want to, perhaps with my own niece or nephew. Uncle Bud also knew exactly where he was going when he died – and that is a message that I hope will speak loud and clear to readers. It is so important for us to know that, and thank you Chautona Havig for making Uncle Bud this way!

If you couldn’t tell, I really enjoyed this story. The characters are sweet, relatable, and endearing. The story not only warmed my heart, but really got me thinking about life in general. And that is always a win in my book 🙂

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

CHRISTMAS AT BREAKERS POINT is a bit deceiving with its cute cover. What readers will find inside its pages is a story of faith, family, friendship, loss, and love told in such a way that will warm their hearts. The quaint island life and these lovable characters are hard to resist. Highly recommended.

This read to me much more like a Christian women's fiction than anything else, particularly as the focus of the story is a dying man's wish and the fight to reclaim one woman's lost soul. There is a bit of romance, but it's not the main focus, along with a bunch of other things going on in this story. What I loved most were these characters and the very upfront and honest religious discussions between Mallory and Joanie. Joanie has real, relevant questions that I feel many will connect with. Joanie's battle with her beliefs and what she sees in the world is the remains in the forefront, but it is enriched by so many wonderful characters, the community and all the Christmas festivities, and by the Mallory's Uncle Bud. How I loved his character! Having lost a beloved great aunt myself in my early twenties, I could really relate to his story.

The only thing that maybe could have been smoothed out more were the switches in POVs. There were quite a few of them and not all of them were main characters or used more than once.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I thoroughly enjoyed reading this! Many times stories that are this heavy religiously don't work for me, but this one did. It made me think and also reconfirmed my own beliefs. The setting and characters were delightful. I'm really looking forward to coming back to Breakers Point in following books!

When I signed on to review Christmas at Breakers Point I expected it to be a seaside Christmas romance due primarily to its cover. Truthfully I found very little romance in this novel and what was there actually took a back seat to the rest of the story. Not to say that was a bad thing. In fact this is a heart-warming yet sometimes poignant tale of the people in a small island town who rallied around an elderly man and his niece as they lived through the last days before his final breath on earth.

Honestly, I probably would not have chosen to read this book had I known I would read much of it sitting in my mother’s room in a hospice facility – just a little too close to home to my own situation. Yet it turned out to be an encouraging experience as I witnessed the interaction between Bud and his niece Mallory and her determination to make his last Christmas a wonderful experience for him. I loved how hard Mallory worked to make his Christmas wish come to pass, especially the numerous faith-building conversations between her and her friend whose disillusionment with other Christians had brought her to a crisis in her faith.

Strong characters, difficult situations, and a very strong Gospel message worked together to make Christmas at Breakers Point an excellent read even if it was not at all what I expected.

While I loved the book, Christmas in Breakers Point is a sad, happy Christmas book. Death during the holiday season is a hard topic. Christmas in Breakers Point may be a grief trigger for those who have experienced a holiday death of a loved one.
Chautona Havig did an excellent job with plot development and creating believable characters. She also does a great job of sharing how to reach millennials and those concerned with social issues with the Gospel. She seems to understand that segment of the population. While the story brought on tears at times, the book is a compelling read.
Christmas in Breakers Point is a book about saying good bye to a loved one. But is also a book about returning the Lord, a book with some romance, and a book about following a dream.
I recommend Christmas in Breakers Point. It is the first book in the Independence Island series. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I would not hesitate to add Christmas in Breakers Point to my k-12 Christian school library. It would be appropriate for middle school and up.
I want to thank Celebrate Lit for the complimentary e-copy of Christmas in Breakers Point. This is my honest review.

This was a bittersweet story with some really good points. I appreciated the depth of the spiritual message, even though I didn’t care for the debate about eternal security not being resolved by Scripture. But otherwise, it was refreshing to read a fictional book with deep discussions that were rooted in the Bible.

The storyline was a little too meandering for me and everything ended a little too perfectly for my skeptical self, but I think it would be the perfect fit for someone who adores the small-town feel with various characters and a happily-ever-after.

Listened to audiobook.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, this is a clean Christian book with nothing inappropriate in it. It does deal with real issues of faith and even death, but there is nothing that should offend the sensibilities of a Christian.

I honestly found this book a delightful change from so many Christian books out there. I would give it a 4.5 for sure. The characters were strong. For it being an introductory book, I felt as though the author did not give us the kind of background that I needed to fully appreciate and understand the characters. But perhaps, that will be more developed in later books in the series.

The best thing about the book is that examines real issues within the church and the Christian faith. The characters are not afraid of discussing eternal security, prejudice/bias, and social issues. There are many things that "church people" do on a regular basis that do not line up with the Word of God, and sometimes, that does cause others to be turned off to the gospel. I appreciate the real discussions that the characters had in this book, and it definitely can cause the reader to examine his/her own life for inconsistencies. This is a strong start to what I believe will be a rather intriguing series that is far beyond the mainstream Christian fiction offerings today.

One man’s last Christmas wish might change two lives forever.

Mallory Barrows has one last Christmas with her uncle. She’s determined to make it the best one he’s ever had.

She knows when she asks what he wants as his final gift, it won’t be a tie or a new mug. He won’t need those where he’s going, and he’s quite happy about that.

Mallory just didn’t think he wanted a miracle wrapped in paper and tied with a shiny red bow!

Christmas on Breakers Point is the introductory book to the Independence Islands Series.

My Thoughts: If you are looking for a good book to read for Christmas or anytime, this is it. It's a wonderful story that brings the true meaning of Christmas to the forefront. It's not about stuff, it's about our Lord and Savior and where we are in Christ. This was a story about serving others, about making a final Christmas a wonderful memory for everyone. It's also a story about bringing a lost sheep back into the fold. I really liked how Chautona handled this and the issues that were brought out were very relevant to society today. This is a story that everyone will enjoy and remember. Chautona has a wonderful way of writing and keeping the reader interested until the very end. You will not be able to put this book down. I certainly look forward to the next in this series.

Chautona Havig is one of my favorite authors. She writes many different types of Christian fiction, and knows how to tell a great story that will completely draw you into a book. Her characters always are real and relatable. All of this is true about this book.

I loved the characters in this story. Mallory was so unselfish, and Uncle Bub’s compassion and wisdom was the heart of this story. By the time I finished this story, I felt as if I had known both of them. The character of Joanie was interesting, too. She was a believer who had walked away from her faith because of her disappointment in the behavior of other Christians. The author did a nice job of communicating the fact that all should be treated with respect and love; and to never give up on praying for those that God places on our hearts. There’s also some surprising “theology debates” that come through the conversations of the characters. You normally don’t find those in a contemporary Christian romance. This is an unusual book, and I’m looking forward to reading more about this community and these characters.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

“Don’t know how people do it without Him, lil’ girl. I just don’t.”

I love the hope that this book carries. I loved that the story was told from each character’s point of view. This story will drive you to the Bible. At one point reading, I stopped, went to the Bible and started reading. I enjoyed the faith, patience and love that radiated from the book. I loved how priorities were placed on the right things. The author brought to us what is most important in our Christian race and that was perfect for me.

Uncle Bud was just a darling. I enjoyed reading about his life and how his life affected people. His love for his niece was amazing. He held closest and dear to his heart what was dear to God’s heart; the salvation of man. And even in his pain, even when his mortal body was failing him, he held onto the God.

Mallory! She was the epitome of selflessness. Her strength and doggedness was her most shunning virtue.

This book will tug at your heart to set priorities straight and to have a heart for the things God has a heart for.

I recommend this to people who love stories with depth.

I received a copy of the book and this is my honest opinion.

One of the characters in Christmas on Breakers Point--Joanie--had been hurt by the church. She had seen Christians repeatedly act contrary to the character of God and it broke her heart. It broke her faith and caused her to walk away--turning her back on the church, her faith, and God.

Christmas on Breakers Point asked some hard questions: how can people who claim to love Jesus treat people the way we do? Is it more important to save the people of the world or to be saved?

And then the book pointed us to introspection: are we driving others away because we choose to stick to ideals rather than demonstrate our love for people.

I enjoyed the premise of the story but did not enjoy the writing style. Christmas at Breakers Point will give you some interesting points to ponder. You will think about your identity as a Christian and what it means to be a follower of Christ. I received an advanced eARC from Celebrate Lit; a positive review was not required.

I have only read a few of Chautona Havig’s books, and I have enjoyed her other works. This one is no different.

Death occurring around the holidays is a tough subject for anyone. The story touches on that in an uplifting and inspirational way.

Strong Characters, each dealing with their own struggles and questions surrounding faith and death are the backbone of this story. Don’t worry this story isn’t all doom and gloom, there are plenty of light hearted moments and Christmas joy throughout. And a fantastic community of characters and a lively setting that brings this story to life.

This is book one of a new series, and a fantastic introduction to the Breakers Point Community. I am looking forward to see what adventures will come our way next.

This is my first book I have read by Chautona Havig and I am now a fan. I have a quite a backlist to read. I read this in anticipation of the next release in the series and was not disappointed. I love series that have each book written by different authors. It is a wonderful way to meet new authors.

This fabulous story is set during the Christmas season, but it's story of love and forgiveness, second chances and repentance are timeless. The author's writing style is refreshing, bursting with hope even amidst tearful farewells. Be prepared to ride an emotional roller coaster as you find a new fictional family/community to love.

This is a very thought-provoking book. It's not your usual fluffy romance, the way most Christmas fiction books are. Instead, this author has tackled some hard issues head-on (think social justice and environmentalism, not to mention losing faith in Jesus). These hard topics are wrapped up in a very engaging story, which also includes a man who loved God reaching the end of his life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a book that makes her think.

Warning: this is no light Christmas romance! This is a heavy, though short, Christian fiction that happens to take place at Christmas. The themes of cancer, death, lost love, and losing faith are heavy and can be depressing if you're not ready for it – which I wasn't.

I was also not happy with the multiple points of view, getting in the heads of so many different characters, not just the hero and heroine like in most romances.

There were also a few typos.

Favorite quotes:
“How'd that happen, Lord? Or, rather, um … thanks?” (p. 7)

“The doctor said to eat even if he didn't feel like it, but that was easy to say for a man whose taste buds and stomach worked like they were supposed to.” (p. 13)

“A lifetime of moments could be summarized in a Breakers Point sunset.” (p. 14)

“Time never passes slower than when you can't sleep.” (p. 46)

“Just one more way the Lord does things backwards to our thinkin'. Only with the Lord does our story begin with, 'The End.'” (p. 47)

“She couldn't deny that he had a point, but she also knew her generation. They didn't think like his. Still, the Bible was the Bible.” (p. 50)

“You're savin' our islands from a change we'd never recover from, and you thank me. Somethin's not right with that.” (p. 67)

“'Be sure to always keep one of those all-in-one volumes about Narnia in your store,' Bud insisted. 'Kids should learn about Aslan before they get exposed to the likes of that Potter kid.' 'Hey! I liked the Potter books.' 'I did, too, but if you're readin' about other worldly [sic] places, ones that are designed to make you think of Jesus are important.'” (p. 108)

“'So much—hic—for handling grief—hic—well.'” (p. 158)

I had read a few other books in the Independence Island series, so when I realized that this one is actually the first book, I was interested.
Mallory was a dear wanting to help her uncle in his last days and trying to get him the Christmas gift he wanted. I liked each of the characters, but didn’t like that the doctrine of eternal salvation was so unclear. The author had both sides shown but never really addressed it. It almost felt as though it was an unresolved part of the story.
While there was Christmas and Christmasy things in the story, the focus wasn’t really on that, it was on changing the mind of someone who had decided that because some people didn’t live like she thought Christians should, then she wasn’t going to believe in God any more. It made me wonder what her family was like, and what her upbringing was like to make her think that. And how did she reach that conclusion? But none of that was answered.
Things ended well and I even got a bit emotional once, but I still wouldn’t say this was a favorite.
There are some kisses, but nothing really descriptive.

What would YOU chose: either/or/both?

“It’s not about rejecting everything you’ve ever known. It’s about being honest with who you really are—even with yourself.”

Mallory goes back to Breakers Point when her dear Uncle Bud begins his last months before he dies. Who would have thought that by being with him during this time would give her the strength to live?

Told with author Chautona Havig's faithful grace-filled style and proficient ability, each character seems as real as you and I are. I found myself laughing and crying with warmth, fear and a truthful bit of anger as the inevitable happens. For Bud, it is beginning again. For Mallory, a whole new world. And, btw, the cookies sound divine. Highly recommended 5/5

This was my first book by Chautona Havig and I have to admit - I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did! This book will worm its way in your heart, just like Uncle Bud. I loved how Chautona handled some tough, controversial issues that divide a lot of people. I will be recommending this book to all my book-loving friends. ***I listened to the audiobook version of this book.

Christmas at Breakers Point is a lovely book. I expected a lighthearted beach read, but Chautona Havig's latest Christmas book delivers a solid, emotional story of family, faith and hope. It made me think and consider certain aspects of my faith. It made me cry. As always, Ms. Havig's writing is "unapologetically Christian", about Christians who live according to their beliefs.

I recommend it for people who like women's fiction.

This was such a lovely book! It had all the parts of a Christmas story that I love, but it also had some deeper portions, too.

The plot was quite unusual. I loved seeing the relationship Mallory had with her uncle, and watching that unfold as the book went on. They both loved each other and loved the Lord, and although they both wished things could be different, they tried to grasp each day as it came, and I really loved their attitude. Then there’s this whole thing about Mallory trying to get her Uncle Bud a nearly-impossible Christmas gift—leading a woman back to the Lord—which created some very unique, interesting, and thought-provoking conversations.

As far as Christmas stories go, I think this is one of my favorites. It’s not a romance—well, not really—but it shows the deep love family can have, and is also a beautiful reflection of God’s love for us. Recommended. It’s a sweet read.

I requested a free review copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.

I read this book back in 2019 and picked it as one if my favorites for the year. This year I received the audio copy to review. Now I will confess that I have never listened to an audio book before. I have all kinds of excuses why I haven’t listened to one before. I started the book and sat down to follow along. Oh my was I in for a treat. The narrator has this soothing voice that carries you from page to page. She makes the story come to life as she speaks with clarity and emotion. Christa DelSorbo has made me a fan of audios. With her gift of making this story even better has made me want to hear more from her. It is no surprise that I already loved the book, but now with the addition of audio, it is a joy to experience the story once again. I hope you enjoy my review that follows and please consider getting the audio version as well as the book.

This story was an emotional journey that I was hesitant to take because it deals with someone who has colon cancer. My brother passed away in March 2019 from colon cancer and I took care of him until he passed. The author does an excellent job of being sensitive to death as we get to know Uncle Bud.

I loved everything about him but especially his faith. Oh how that man loved God and wanted everyone else to know him as well. His relationship with Mallory is special and their time together was spent laughing, reminiscing and sharing God with each other. Uncle Bud has one last gift he wants from Mallory before he dies. Will she be able to give him the gift ?

Mallory is everything I hope for in a character. She is loving, giving and always thinking of others. Taking care of her Uncle Bud is a time for her to cherish memories and give him comfort and peace during the time he has left. I loved how faith is shared in the story and the discussions that take place between several characters. The doubt that someone has about God is well written. I have often asked some of the same questions in my walk. I do find that people get legalistic and judgmental. It is hard to fit in sometimes when you see things that don't line up with the bible.

The story is a beautiful reminder that life is short and we need to take every moment to share God, love each other and be a Godly example to others. I can't count how many times I cried throughout the story but I do know they were healing tears. I needed this book at this moment to help me grieve my loss. Before my brother passed, I was determined to lead him to Christ. The Friday before he passed he said the salvation prayer the best he could. With tears streaming down both our cheeks, he gave his heart to Jesus.

I appreciate an author that isn't afraid to give both sides of the debate whether God is real or not. The author's voice can be heard in the characters as they give their arguments and right there is sweet Uncle Bud loving how bold his niece is. His heart was full of love and he knew he could prepare himself for his "expiration date."

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Heartbreaking and heartwarming

Prepare yourself for heartbreak, second chances and deep spiritual discussions.

Uncle Bud was so charming and wonderful!! He had numerous terms of endearment for Mallory, almost always a different one. It was so sweet the names he chose. This man of faith knew that his "expiration date" was approaching rapidly and he had peace with God and was ready to go.

Mallory was a great character as well. When she received the call from Uncle Bud, she dropped everything to be by his side and even submitted a letter of resignation to her employer; despite the fact her job was quite lucrative. Once there, she poured her heart out to Uncle Bud and loved him the best way she could. And when he mentioned his Christmas wish, she did all she could to provide it for him. . . Even though it was really completely out of her power!

Geoff and Joanie had been in love since they were little. Everything made it look as though they were going to have their happily-ever-after until Joanie began to question her faith. When she walked away from all she believed, Geoff knew that he could no longer plan to marry her. His love for her never died; instead he remained her friend and prayed for her.

Mallory and Joanie had some incredibly insightful discussions about faith. Though she didn't want to hurt Joanie, Mallory was bold in sharing with her and clearly showed her love as well. The debates they had were fascinating and challenging.

Uncle Bud's situation was painful to read, though Chautona Havig was not graphic about his experiences and didn't focus on the negatives of his health. It is possible this hit me harder than it might have otherwise as I am traveling a cancer journey with a dear friend of mine. Bud's outlook and hope shone through, as did his great love for his great-niece.

I was so touched by the people of the islands and the way the rallied together and loved Bud. When Mallory called for help, they replied so quickly!! The gatherings, despite being last minute, were very amazing!!

If you enjoy stories rich with spiritual content, more focused on relationship than romance, Christmas on Breaker's Point is a book you won't want to miss.

Christmas on Breakers Point follows Mallory Barrows who has just gotten a call from her great-uncle telling her that he is dying. Before the start of the novel she had promised him that she would come and take care of him in the last few weeks of his life. She leaves everything behind and goes to care for him, and hopefully spend one last Christmas with him, but she doesn't know what to get him. He asks  her to do one thing for him that he considers to be the greatest Christmas gift of all...the only problem is that it seems impossible and it would be a miracle if it came to fruition. However, Mallory sets out to do what she can to try and give her uncle one last Christmas gift, but it will be anything but easy and it will take a lot of work from the Lord to help it come to pass.

Something that surprised me about this book was how short it was, I was honestly expecting it to be over 300 pages, but it's only about 160 pages. That being said, it was still a really good book! My only complaint is that the scene changes were a little bit jarring and there were times I had difficulty figuring out what had just happened and what day it was in the timeline of this story. But other than that it was still pretty good.

Mallory was a great character, and it was interesting watching her go on this journey as she watches her great-uncle dying, but also trying to do what she can to honor his "last wishes" so to speak. I felt like in a lot of ways he put her in a hard position, but she does what she can to help make his request come true, even if it means risking friendship along the way. I also loved watching her relationship with her Uncle. I also liked how she comes up with an idea that eventually ends up setting up the rest of the series.

I also loved Mallory's uncle Bud, who is a spry old man with interesting stories and tidbits of information. And the lengths he's willing to go to make his dying wish come true is entertaining.

Overall, this was another great read from Chaotona Havig, and I am looking forward to spending more time in the Independence Islands soon and my only complaint is that this book was too short!

Christmas on Breakers Point is the introductory prequel to the upcoming Independence Islands Collection from Celebrate Lit Publishing and what a introduction it is! If you like the thought of Christmas on the beach, this is your book!
I loved having the plot ideas for the new collection coming from a character’s thoughts and I can’t wait to read the upcoming series.
Christmas on Breakers Point is my first read by Chautona Havig and I was not disappointed. Chautona’s book has a wonderful, inspiring depth to it and deals with some tough questions.
The story is a sad one because the main character Mallory is going to the island to spend time with her Uncle Bud during the final weeks of his life, due to cancer. There were times that brought tears to my eyes, but there were also times that I nearly laughed out loud. Uncle Bud is so sweet and has a great sense of humor. Some of the other characters are quirky and endearing as well.
This book deals with a secondary character who has turned their back on their faith in God. They have some difficult and complex questions that are plaguing them. I loved the way Chautona deals with these questions and the answers the characters give to help this character find her way back to the Lord. My only negative is that I wish the resolution had happened in her own point of view instead of “off screen” basically.
I highly recommend this book for those who like romance to be a side plot and not the focus. I also recommend this book for those who enjoy reading about deep matters and the story making them think. I do caution those who have lost love ones to cancer or have been a caretaker for an elderly love one, as the story will bring out possible painful memories.

My Thoughts on Christmas on Breakers Point:
I go into any book by Chautona Havig knowing that I’m going to love it. She’s got such a wonderfully unique voice that I know it’s going to be something I enjoy. I also know that it is going to be a good solid Christian book that will either test me or give me something that I truly need in my faith. Her verses and Bible bits are always well-timed and fully used in my life.

This is the start of a new series and I can say I am pleased to be hooked on a series from the beginning! You’re going to love this book and I’m sure we’ll all love the full series as well!

Mallory goes in to quit her job because she must go to her Uncle as he faces his last days. What she’s not prepared for is the kindness and understanding of her boss. And thus begins a new chapter in her life.

While my parents and close aunts and uncles are still living I can’t say the same for my grandparents and greats. My grandpa was the youngest of 13 children and they are all gone but one now.

Miracles do happen. In fact they still happen everyday in the world around me and you. I experienced one just today answering a Christmas wish from one of my children through some dear members of our community. Look for them and you’ll find them just like Mallory finally does in this book.

And just read the book. Because it’s amazing.

I bought a copy to gift to my mom because I loved it that much!

I loved this story and am eagerly awaiting the rest in the series but I have to be honest and say for me it was a tear jerker. It might not be a tear jerker for all. It was for me because while reading my mind kept going back to to the last few months I had with mom and her struggle with cancer.

This book really clearly points out the fact that the main focus in life should be Jesus. This book is another book that I think belongs in a genre called "real life fiction. It has all the elements of real life such as struggling with faith and learning that we all struggle and life and dying and love. The plot might be different but I am sure this story has happen somewhere in the world at many times.

This book really kept me turning the pages and I don't want to stop when I reached the last page.

I am going to share something from the book that really explains why we have to deal with all the pain and evil in this world. " The world is a sick. hurting place,.....Jesus is the only for the hate, the disease, the selfishness, and the greed. But unless every person in it is cured, it'll go on affecting all of us-even those who have been promised eternal remission from the disease of sin."

I think this series is going to become one of my many favorites. I really recommend this book to anyone that likes "real life fiction". Yes, this book is sad but it offers hope also.

This book is my favorite Christmas read so far this year! In fact, it is my favorite of Chautona Havig books!

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

In my opinion, any book by Chautona Havig will be a good one! AND this one is the BEST yet!! This author often tackles tough topics in her stories but always does so with sensitivity and grace. Dealing with death is hard for anyone. The Christmas season seems to be the hardest time to have to live through. "Breakers Point" is the first in a new series and immediately grabbed me and wouldn't let go!

The chraracter development is outstanding , being so realistic that the reader easily can identify with the characters. Uncle Bud is a dear old soul , one that I would love to have in my family. His love for Mallory is so strong, as is his faith in the Lord. Chautona has a unique voice that has one living the good and the bad along with the residents of this community. My tears flowed as Uncle Bud became weaker. As he started to lose his grip on life, Mallory took over and became stronger in her faith. I greatly admired her desire to please this sweet man.

The plot is well developed with twists and turns at every turn of the page. I enjoyed the ups and downs as I became more and more observed in the changing lives of the characters. The use of scripture made me examine my own life and how I can deal with unexpected events in a better way.

For a brief time, I was there , on that beautiful beach alongside Mallory and Uncle Bud. I felt the wind in my face and could see the palm branches blow.
Don't miss this book! It is a must read!! But.... you may need a few tissues!
