The first three issue story arc Simon Spurrier wrote for the rebooted Hellblazer title was dark and political, not unlike the work Jamie Delano did on this series back in the eighties. This was the second half of a two part story by Spurrier, and it was a great palate cleanser after the more hardboiled issues that preceded it. Basically, John Constantines meets his hipster doppelganger, and hilarity ensues. The art by Matias Bergara paired nicely with the script, and I certainly wouldn't complain if he was brought back for an encore at some point in the future.

The cover art, story, and characterizations are great. Spurrier continues to show a deep understanding of John Constantine. Unfortunately the new (as of last issue) interior art is ruining this book for me. It's far too cartoonish for horror. Gone is any amount of visual atmosphere that the first 3 issues contained. This feels like the "Real Ghostbusters" version of Hellblazer.

Okay, so Tommy is growing on me. Also, I know Constantine is bi, but I feel like there’s never much in the way of a male love interest. I’m so ready for a male Kit or something. Here’s hoping... (probably) not Tommy though. I’m not sure how I’d feel about that.
