While Haruhiro and the others were in Parano, a major incident was happening in Grimgar…
In a fast-moving world, a man hides his face beneath a mask, making his way towards Alterna alone…
"Am I being true to my own heart? Well, then there's no problem."
In addition to the new story telling of Ranta's struggles, Feelings of the Mask, there is also Please, Just a Little Longer, about the feelings of Manato, the volunteer soldier trainee who died before he could reach his goal, and "Let's Rest for Today," which depicts Yume and Shihoru's interactions with their respective masters at the guilds they joined. This volume contains four short stories, including those made as extras for the TV anime!
ME FLIPA. Ahora esperaré pacientemente el rencuentro de mis dos personajes favoritos de la historia.
Firstly, I just want the story to get back on the road already. The whole Leslie Camp and the Parano dimension kind of sucked, and this volume started off pretty annoying too from the goblin’s perspective. It did get much better as the story continued. I did like the different perspectives of the gang from the very start, especially Monato’s. Yume’s and Shiho’s was okay as well. I did learn that Leslie was an undead prince who lured people into his camp and then they were never seen again. I thought that was interesting because I was a bit lured in myself with the possibility of the gang getting their hands on some awesome items. Ranta’s story actually made me pretty happy and excited. He seems to have completely reworked his personality and actually came to care about others. I was hoping the half-orc kid that he saved would become his comrade, but I did not expect him to die, especially after they shared their names and things seemed to be going fine. Now that I think about it, I do not think that things will go as planned for Wesley and his Forest/Grey Elf family. I really want to get back to the gang’s story now, but the author mentions that he’ll be going over Yume’s story next, since she left with the pirates to train. Come to think of it, this all makes sense now since it seems that the gang has spent a lot more time in Parano dimension than they though. I mean, they were afraid that that would be the case since they did not know how time spent at Parano translated to time passing in Grimgar. So I guess it has been about 3-something years then. Pretty cool.

The short story "farewell beloved gobligar" was particularly poignant, but generally, all the short stories were amazing. I can't wait to read the next set.
More exposition of Shihoru and Manato's backstory from before volume 1 of the series. And there's a bit of Ranta in it too. Overall a welcome anthology to flesh out the characters.
While it did deviant from the plotline the vignettes were wholesome and fun to read. I hate how a book of short stories more of less ends with a cliffhanger tho. Like c’mon.
This is an anthology of short stories set in the Grimgar series. First is a tale about a group of goblins which bear a striking resemblance to our main protagonists. Then we get some heartwarming backstories of Manato, Yume, and Shihoru when they first started out as volunteer soldiers. But the best story of the bunch is about Ranta, which shows how he's matured after the various events of books 10-12. In short, he's a heck lot more competent as a fighter and ditches a lot of his annoying antics. He still boasts a lot but now he's got the results to show for it. Overall, a good easy read that fills some of the gaps in Grimgar's character origins.
This double volume was so thicc it barely counts as a "light" novel, you know? ;) After all that happened, it was almost strange to go back to the very beginnings in these short stories. Still, it was nice to get new perspectives and new details about the past. Of course, the two main dishes are the two stories featuring Ranta and Yume after they left the party. They both grew up so much *sheds a little tear*. We also get a taste of what the next volume will look like so things are going to shake up quite a bit?!
Most of these 2 volumes is below average. However, both final tales are really good. Rants has developed in an interesting manner, and so has Yume. It seems everything is set for the final arc!
