Rob Liefeld is an American comic book writer, illustrator, and publisher. A prominent artist in the 1990s, he has since become a controversial figure in the medium.

In the early 1990s, self-taught artist Liefeld became prominent due to his work on Marvel Comics' The New Mutants and later X-Force. In 1992, he and several other popular Marvel illustrators left the company to found Image Comics, which rode the wave of comic books owned by their creators rather than by publishers. The first book published by Image Comics was Rob Liefeld's Youngblood #1.

He is married to actress Joy Creel.

I have been enjoying the Marvel Select series, but found this one to be a bit of a let-down. Still, I want to be fair here. This may not be in the fault of the author and the story, but rather in my lack of familiarity with the broader Marvel Universe. I have read some Deadpool before and, of course, have seen the movies. (Great fun!) However, the story here seems like it comes in part way through a larger narrative. There are characters that show up I have never heard of before and there is no backstory to them given. There are frequent call outs to previous events that obviously have an impact on the story line, but as I had no clue what they were about, I was left in the dark. I was part way through the volume and was so confused, I had to give it up as the story made no sense to me.

Again, I want to be clear, if you are in the know, this is likely going to be a good book. Over time as I become more emersed I may come back to this volume. But, if you are a neophyte and unaware of the massive canvas of the marvel world, you may well end up scratching your head as I did.

Wanted to get a nice intro to Deadpool as a comic character prior to the third movie. These are BAD stories to have as a special edition to introduce the character and have a good idea of what is going on. Way to much focus on past comic runs (not covered in this collection) and none of these issues really stood out as a great deadpool piece. There were very few good moments. I know there are better story archs, just baffled why these were chosen for the special collection.
