Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.

Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.

In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.

Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.

In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.

In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.

After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

The start of Aaron’s Thor was easily 5 stars the god butcher story line is one of my all time favorites but then theres some great stuff with Jane foster but very hit and miss. The main war of the realms story is 3 stars great art and some good moments but not as epic as i would of expected and felt very watered down. The 2 stars is for the omnibus as a whole a majority of the tie ins are a waste of time the only good one was the one by tom taylor and it was the only thing with really any heart in the whole event. Disappointed in the end of his run, I really hope King Thor with Esad Ribic brings back some of the magic from the beginning.

The event itself tho predictable is very enjoyable. Russell Dauterman and Jason Aaron are a dream team for Thor comics. The tie ins are hit or miss. The Punisher miniseries was by far my favorite. This Omnibus is massive, if your a fan of tie in issues I recommend it for the collection if not your better off picking up the trade and saving some shelf space.

Actual event is really short and the tie ins are very hit and miss, they also make up the majority of the book. The event itself is pretty disappointing too.

WAR OF THE REALMS: JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY. Семейство Макелроев написало отличное дорожное приключение очень интересной группы персонажей, которое можно прочитать даже в отрыве от события. Фирменный юмор порой немного перехлестывает, но все равно очень хорошо.

This took me forever to read because I had to force myself back into it so many times. The main core story isn’t bad. It isn’t very good, either. The main problem is that there are a ton of tie-ins, most of which contribute very little to the story, and the best ones have almost nothing at all to do with it. Some are so bad (Squirrel Girl) they almost made me just give up trying to finish this tome.

On top of that, the mapping in this omnibus is atrocious. For the most part, it’s almost as if Marvel just decided to sort by title, but some of the titles are in reading order. So if you want to read this in story order, you have to find a reading order and flip back and forth.

Do yourself a favor and just read the TPBs of War of the Realms, WotR: Spider-man/Daredevil, WotR: Strikeforce, Venom Vol. 4: War of the Realms, and WotR: Punisher. Those last two have almost nothing to do with WotR, but they were decent. The Spider-man/Daredevil one you can skip the Spider-man stuff.

This was just a blast, and a perfect example of the best event comics can be. The main story is not only really solid, but pays off so many plot and character threads from Aaron's Thor run. On top of that, the tie-ins and miniseries are good at their worst, and outstanding at their best. Some of the highlights are the Champions issues (including that one amazing splash page moment), a fun Captain Marvel story, a Punisher mini that was surprisingly effective, and the New Agents of Atlas badassery. Blockbuster widescreen popcorn summer crossover done right!

Jason Aaron’s Thor run comes to an a climax of epic proportions full of payoffs of all sorts for his lengthy multi-year run. Further, every single tie in ranges in quality from exceptional to at least good. The biggest criticism you could level at any of the included tie in is that they’re side stories that don’t firmly fit back into the main event plot, which to be honest is perfectly fine as they do a great job telling the stories they want to. This is line wide comics event storytelling at its very best.

I oddly and a bit shamefully feel a sense of accomplishment after reading ALL the War of the Realms stories. So fun. I'm tempted to buy the hard copy of this omnibus. Would look great in my bookshelves. But not tempted enough to spend the actual money for it. A casualty of the most glorious thing to ever happen to comic books: Marvel Unlimited (anyone remember when it was Marvel Digital Unlimited?).

The main story was obviously great. But so many really great tie-ins. And I did feel like this was affected and impacted the entire Marvel Midgard. Some inevitable not great tie-ins. But overall, I liked them a good deal.

Is this the best Marvel event ever? When's the movie come out? Jane Foster Thor joins the MCU soon!

Even for an omnibus this book is massive. But that fits with the massive event which Jason Aaron has been laying the groundwork for for 7 years. War of The Realms features great artwork and a fun story wherein Earth is being invaded by all the kinds of enemies you expect from Lord of the Rings, something Spider-man doesn't fail to emphasize.

The War of The Realms and Thor issues are outstanding, but The Punishes issues are up there as well. The War scrolls are fun.

The only issues I actually skipped where the Squirrel Girl ones.

All in all this omnibus varies from amazing to just a good read.

More Jason Aaron's Thor than Jason Aaron's avengers and that is a very good thing. There are also some very fun side stories. First big Crossover I've read in a long while from a period where post Hickman's avengers and pre his X-Men I'd stepped away from the Marvel Universe for a couple of years. Fun as the best comics should be and the best use of Daredevil in an event comic for years. It shouldn't work but it did.

This one is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the stories are and some are just okay. The arrangement with the overall War of the Realms story was also off at times, but I suppose that might not be able to be helped since some are tied to specific events issues and/or take place at various points in the event.

If you are a completist or like the event get it. Otherwise, you are better off just getting the Thor omnibus instead.

I found that the stakes were never really shown. Everyone just seemed to be having a good time so it was hard to feel the dire consequences that they kept talking about. Some of the tieins could’ve helped with that if they’d been interspersed with the main story, but they’re all crammed at the end and feel even more inconsequential.

A great run of comics led to this event. It has been fun revisiting all of it. The tie ins are a bit random sometimes, but I will say that it is great to see a Marvel event that actually takes place all over the world.
The war of the realms per se was pretty good and Thor was awesome in this. Will say, I did wish the X-Men had been more present in this era.

Hoved event rigtig godt. Mange gode og sjove tie-ins, men også nogle knap så gode inkluderet. Blandt favoritterne var giant-man, journey into mystery og spider-man & league of realms og strikeforce historierne.

I can say this is one of the series that I didn't find compelling but always fun to follow. And yes, the entire series this crossover opens!
