I think it would be fun to turn into a cat and prowl anonymously every night. At least at first.

PJ Taylor does just that. She turns into a cat every night and stays that way from dark til light of morning. She has no choice. Can’t change at will.

So she uses it to her advantage. Rigging a tiny video camera to a cat collar,, she films scenes she comes across while wandering through her neighborhood. It comes in handy when she catches some thieves on film.

One night, while she’s taking a cat walk, she witness an altercation between a neighborhood boy and grumpy old Chip Greene. Chip slips and falls in the river and she’s way too tiny to help. Luckily, he washes up alive.

It gets strange when Chip is found quite a distance away from where he washed up, and he’s dead as a doornail.

Now it’s time for PJ to use her special abilities to help save the boy. He’s autistic and can’t defend himself, so she’s going to need lots of batteries for her kitty cam if she’s going to solve the case.

It sounded like a fun synopsis. A woman turns into a cat every night and films the goings on in her neighborhood. Being a reporter, she can use this to break some great stories.

The author did a good job covering how PJ manages to have clothes to wear when she changes back. Can’t be running around naked if she doesn’t get home before daylight.

And the kitty cam was a fun twist too. Perfect for a reporter. PJ can get the skinny on what’s happening around town. I bet she caught some interesting stuff on film.

PJ is easy to like. She’s sweet and snarky. Smart as a whip. And has a generous, kind heart. I was wondering how she could have a romantic relationship without spilling her secret. Couldn’t very likely just disappear every night. Maybe she’ll meet someone she can trust and understands.

There are several characters you’ll come to like, human and furry. Yes, PJ can kind of communicate with other animals when she’s in her cat form.

While the mystery may seem obvious, there’s a whole lot going on to lead you astray.

Eyeshine is a cozy mystery. It’s clean, no graphic sex, violence, or bad language. Not too serious of a plot, so it’s more of a fun who dun it then a thriller or suspense.

If the author continues with these characters, I’ll be checking in to see what they get into next.

I received this book for my honest review.

Chip Greene was murdered - drowned - and the law was blaming a neighbor autistic boy. PJ knew it wasn’t true, because she saw everything that happened. But no one will believe her because she’s told so many versions of what happened that night. The reason for this is because PJ turns into a cat at night. Yes, as a cat, PJ carries a camera around embedded in her collar so she can fight crime in her own way, by turning her camera on while she’s a cat, to take video and pictures from the vantage point only a cat can get, from the top of tree branches or low to the ground. Mutt, her dog, helps her investigate at night when she’s a cat. Her friends and neighbors thinks she has a serious phobia about nightfall and that’s why she disappears, but it’s really because she turns into a cat every night. Her brother, Robert, knows, but he’s conveniently deleted the information from his mind so he won’t have to think about it. But now, his 12-year old daughter is acting strangely and told him that she dreams of turning into a cat so everything comes to the surface. When Robert, his daughter and his sister PJ end up camping together, Robert finally faces the truth: that PJ really does turn into a cat at night. He even ends up talking to her as a cat, pets and feeds her. They even play chess together! This is the kind of book that you can read leisurely and have fun with. An easy and fun read.

This is a very unusual book. The main character turns into a cat at sundown, and then turns back into a human at sunrise. She wears a collar with a camera while she is a cat, which provides photos and videos for her freelance reporting job. Mutt, her dog, is her nightly sidekick and helps her out as much as he can. Her older brother is an FBI agent who has apparently blocked out any memory of her "condition.

When she is accused of being the ringleader of a series of robberies in her trailer park, and of trying to frame the kids in the park, she is determined to clear her name. When an elderly resident of the park is murdered, her situation gets even worse, as she is seen as the prime suspect.

This is one of the most fun mysteries I've read this year. It's unique, well written, and very easy to read. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys paranormal cozies.

What a great and fun story! I must admit that I was skeptical when I read the premise--an investigative reporter by day and a cat by night--a woman who becomes a cat at sundown. However, I found myself fully involved into the story. It balanced humor with tense scenarios well, and I laughed out loud more than once. I particularly enjoyed the interactions between PJ as a cat with her dog, Mutt. Cy Wyss, the author, captured the tone of the animals just as I would have imagined it. Fun stuff. On top of all that, I didn't have the mystery figured out before the reveal at the end--and I often do--so it held my interest all the way through. This book would make a great gift for a young teen or preteen, and especially for anyone who has a fondness for cats and dogs. If you like an out of the box story with an unusual premise, give Eyeshine a read.

The most delightful murder mystery I ever read!!

PJ or Peeping Jane or Photo Journalist as she calls herself is a bewitching and entrancing character who takes videos of villains in action due to her special skills!

She takes videos of two teens in her trailer trying to rob her and also an eyewitness to an accident that turns out to be murder but cannot reveal her secrets because of the inexplicable and bizarre circumstances of her life! This inability of hers gets her into trouble with the law enforcement officials and agencies including her own brother who is an FBI agent!

How PJ overcomes the obstacles and gets the police to come round to accepting the truth as revealed by her is narrated in this fascinating and gripping mystery! The characters are hilarious and adorable!

A brilliant, delectable marvelous reading experience!!

Interesting

I read this straight through. It was really a good story. Sort of weird with her turning into a cat. I guess sort of like that Disney movie where the guy turned into a dog.
But it was a really good book. It kept my interest all the way through.
I wouldn't call it a murder mystery though.

Winner!

This story is an interesting mystery with a somewhat magical twist. It is well written and incidents are interestingly connected. The characters are well developed and empathetic. I very much enjoyed it. The entire story is energetic but not bloody or scarey.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The concept itself was so interesting and the mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved all the references especially to Nancy Drew - my childhood favorite! Excited to read the second part!

Well this was a fun read! I have always loved "shape shifter" books, but not the dark scary ones. I like the light fun ones, and that's what this was! It was fun, suspenseful, and creative!

The character development was very well put together. I loved PJ. I liked how the story took shape, how it started out with something small and the mystery grew into something much more serious as the book went on.

I am very much a cat person. I would love to turn into a cat at night! This reminded me of Cat Woman (the comic) and movie with Halle Berry. Only in that she was a super hero and here - PJ is not a super hero, she is just a normal person who happens to be a reporter turning into a cat looking to catch a story. She was very real to me in the book. She seemed like someone I could be friends with.

I liked the ending and how it left room for a sequel???? Maybe? I know I would like one. I want to find out what happens to the niece! Well I guess you will have to read the book to know what I mean!

This is my second book by this author and I am already a fan! I know I will be reading all her future books. Cy Wyss makes reading Mysteries fun!

Thank you Partner's in Crime for sending me this great book for my honest review!

This was another strange book. The main character turns into a cat at sundown and turns back into a human at sunup. She roams the neighborhood at night and sees many things that humans might not see. She usually takes a camera with her so she can get videos and she sends them into the newspaper that she writes for.

Her nickname is PJ which stands for Peeping Jane and she has an older brother named Roger who is a special agent in the FBI. Their parents are both dead and Roger has raised PJ and feels responsible for her.

When a series of robberies happen in her trailer park, the local sheriff thinks it is PJ that is the ring leader and she is framing the kids in the trailer park. She has a lot of talking to do to get herself out of that mess.

But is gets sticky when an older resident washes up after a heavy storm with heavy rain dead in the ravine. PJ of course is a cat and sees all of it, but how can she explain it to anyone. That is when the book gets interesting. It kept my interest and I would recommend it to my family and friends.

Hott Review:
What I liked: Eyeshine is the best cozy I’ve read in years – maybe ever! I really enjoyed PJ. Trying to put myself in her shoes to help oust the truth of a murder that I’d seen but couldn’t admit to seeing was tremendous fun. Plus, her brother! What a dork! Loved him so much, especially since he reminds me so much of my brothers!
Eyeshine is a captivating cozy that will have you devouring the pages & wishing for more!
What I didn’t like: I’m still engrossed. I want a sequel, now. I’d love for this to be a series.

Darkness comes with a price

This was a good read up to a point. Why can't she have someone to shares things with, even her own brother still seems a bit aloof and distant from her. The characters though are great and I loved the image of the two squirrels and a kitten taking on the big, bad detective. A plot of thefts in the neighbourhood and then a drowning. A drowning of a elderly man and a young autistic boy being accused of the death. She witnessed it all but how can she explain that she changes into a cat every night and was herself in danger of drowning when she (as the cat) fell in the raging water. Can she work her way around this to bring up the facts of the death and clear up the thefts? After all now the new detective has her in his sights as the ringleader.
Hopefully the next book gives her a companion that can be trusted with the facts.

Oh, wow!

I just can't fathom how this book came to be. It is so far-fetched, riddled with implausibilities, and is not written in a smooth manner whatsoever. I truly am at a loss.

PJ, a woman who inherited money but purposely lives in a trailer park is a freelance writer who always has the photograph of the event. Why? Because at night PJ turns into a cat. I kid you not. From her collar, PJ the cat wears a video camera.

I continued on because I downloaded this book for free from Amazon Prime and it is the book-of-the-month for a reading group I am in. Other than that, I see no reason to read this. Sorry to be harsh, but this is not my kind of book at all.

I will say the author uses two words (akimbo and lithe) well and with regularity throughout the book.

Good fun read if you suspend some beliefs.

The main character admits, several times, there are holes in her story a mile wide. But I was looking for something fun, so I just went with it. There were no shocks or twists, just what I was looking for. As an animal lover I especially enjoyed those parts.

Very entertaining!

I haven't read...yeah I have read many stories about humans morphing into some animal but they were mostly werewolves not cute little kittens. Caught myself hoping I could come back as a cat in my next life! The storyline was refreshing and enjoyable. I recommend this book to everyone... even cat haters like me.

Probably not my first choice for a theme. I thought the woman transforming into a cat was a bit of a stretch for a cozy mystery, and the setting in a trailer park isn't my idea of cozy.
The mystery itself was quite well done.
