This captivating and memorable poetry collection from Canadian Poet Shelby Marie is worth returning to often. An inspiring story touching on the grief anchored to heartbreak and the bravery necessary to move towards the things and the people that are truly meant for us.
To Walk on Moonbeams is a poetry collection woven from the sorrow of heartbreak, the power in healing, and the beauty that comes with letting go.
Shelby Marie takes the reader on a journey of self-love, choosing to let the light back in, and seeking magic in the ordinary. This book is one for the warriors, for the hearts that wanted to give up but still found reasons to stay.
I'm a poet and creative soul from Ontario, Canada.
I write poetry spun with magic and I run my own online boutique.
On social media I share my original poems that I hand type on my antique Underwood typewriter from 1911. These one of a kind pieces can be ordered from my shop or you can join me on Ko-fi to get monthly poetry mail!
I love cats, antique things, and everything that autumn brings. When I'm not writing poetry, you'll often find me curled up with a book or journaling.
I'm grateful that you're here with me. Thank you for taking such great care of the paper pieces of my heart. xo Shelby
My heart is a sword and I will fight for you I will love you through this storm And the next, And the next.
I am, as most people know, a fan of poetry. I'm not too picky about what style or subject, necessarily, but I want it to mean something. I want to be able to understand what it means without poring over it with a magnifying glass. And Shelby starts off with just that.
He, like fresh cut flowers, was sorcery Beautiful, until inevitably rotten.
Shelby is spare with her imagery but it works: I feel the emotion leaping right off the page. She knows what she wants to tell us. She knows how we are going to feel. I'm in good hands with this poet. I can tell.
I tried to choose the right words Opened my mouth to feel it full of cobwebs Empty except for the dusting of our history
This poet is surgical in their spareness. It's a lot harder to achieve than it looks.
If you're not sewing yourself back together You're pulling the threads apart.
Some of the poems in this collection are VERY short: but that does not mean they are trite. The grief is real, the pain is palpable.
Of all the sections, Healing was perhaps my favourite, which is unusual: normally I prefer the pathos to the positive.
I held the moon in my hands Cradled it like an infant in need of tender love.
But then, hesitant had its own beauty. There's a lot of stories woven within this, some that I relate to, some that I don't. It's a glimpse into someone else's soul, into their private moments.
You give me hope on sleepless nights. He made bedtime snacks for my monsters.
When I read poetry I like to play a game where I make an aesthetic for the poet: so I hope you will indulge me.
Shelby is the quiet drops of rain that fall in the morning, quietly ruminating. She's the polished silverware, unobtrusive. She's a crisp new notebook and a bunch of folded lists. Neatly, of course. She's a tea, a nice rounded Ceylon, with the steam drifting up on a spring day. She's the blossom that unfurls quietly to remind you that winters do end, at last. She's the quiet sigh as you close the door and remember that you are home.
This is a nice collection, mature, introspective, and hopeful. I recommend.
Phenomenonal and thoroughly emotional 🥰 if you're a person who gets completely swept away with the feeling or idea of love, both the amazing and the awful, this is the poetry book for you ✨️
"To Walk On Moonbeams" is a beautiful collection of heartfelt poetry. From the first poem the book will carry you off you into a captivating world of deep emotions.
Zombear masters the art of storytelling through her poems and tells a beautifully heartaching story of love, heartbreak, healing and hope that takes your breath away. Every poem is unique in its own way. The wide range of short poems and longer pieces not only touched my heart but also deeper parts of me.
It was hard to pick a favorite poem or even a top ten as there are so many fantastic pieces in this book.
“If my love for him is not enough then no part of me is because I have never loved anything as fiercely as I’ve loved him.
-not even myself”
I’ve been following Zombear Writes for a while on Instagram and loved her writing from the beginning, but this book exceeded all my expectations as it is a firework of deep emotions and hope.
“Sadness shoots a bullet straight at you and love buys you time.”
A collection of vividly relatable poems. I don't use this word very often, but I'd say this book is a masterpiece and the best book I've read this year. If you suffer from a broken heart or ever felt the pain of heartbreak I can highly recommend this beautiful collection.
Thank you, Shelby Marie, for providing me with a copy of your collection in exchange for my review!
There’s something comforting in reading about the path from a wrong sort of love to the one that feels natural, a type of proof that heartbreak and sadness can and do end and that something right is on the other side.
I particularly enjoyed the section “Healing,” where Shelby explores what it’s like to learn to love yourself, see yourself as worth the effort, and believe that things will get better. I don’t know what it is about arcs like that, both in poetry and fiction, that strike me, but I’m apparently a sucker for them 🙈
Shelby wrote the collection in such a way that it feels like getting snapshots into the moments, the feelings, along this particular path. Like getting random texts from a friend who simply needs to sound off, or perhaps hear “I’ve been there too.” I found it provided another level of intimacy to the collection!
Overall, I think anyone looking for the sort of comfort this collection's arc provides would enjoy To Walk on Moonbeams!
"This is for anyone, for everyone, who may stumble, for all who need it."
These are the words the author begins with so immediately, I was intrigued. This book consists of 6 sections, each precisely named for all the works of poetry in each section.
The poems the author wrote immaculately describes how it feels to love someone who is not good for you, the process it takes to get over that love, and how to be open to the next love.
The author's use of imagery takes the words to another level of understanding. Many of the authors poems give feelings to things I've experienced, but never could find the right words or had the confidence to speak. I absolutely loved each poem in this book!
This book is for anyone and everyone, preferably over the age of 15 or 16. It's a great reminder of where you've been in life and where you are now. Hopefully happy with someone you love & loves you in return.
This book captures the feelings of heartbreak, loneliness, isolation, healing, contentment and happiness in a beautiful collection of poems about love, loss and loving. Shelby’s writing is both down-to-earth and ethereal, calming and thought-provoking. I devoured every word and did not even realize I had finished the book until it was over. If you love simple, yet captivating and compelling poetry, I would highly recommend you try reading this book!
i really, really enjoyed zombear’s poetry book! i had a playlist going in the background and ‘je te laisserai see mots’ came on and while reading i realized this song fit this poetry book perfectly. it’s something that’s beautifully sad, the emotions she evoked from me while i was reading was crazy. i felt myself going through the 7 steps of grief with her and i was there in the moments hanging on by a single thread constantly flipping the pages to see where she would take me next. it was a really inspiring story and i can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!
These poems are broken down into wonderful little theme categories, and they flown really well together, bookmarked a good handful of them, so that’s a great time! The variation between shorten longer poems was a good mix as well, and I didn’t see myself getting lost in any repetitiveness as I sometimes do, maybe it’s because of the subcategories and how the writer used specific ways to get the point across. I also really appreciated the increased amount of nature related words.
This book is amazing. IS a MUST read. Perfect for every weather with a nice cup of tea. This book will have you feeling all the emotions! If you were every looking for a book to read here you go! Also the author is super sweet and i have talked to her personally and i can vouch for her love of writing. Keeping this on my bookshelf to read over and over again <3 Also what an awesome cover.
To Walk On Moonbeams is a beautiful collection of poetry about love and heartbreak. It is raw and emotional, taking the reader on a journey of loss and pain, through to healing and strength. I love the title and cover, too! Shelby has a unique and magical way with words and I can't wait to read more from her!
This book contains a collection of amazing poetry pieces. Read this book and you will be taken on a journey of love, loss, heartache, self-love and strength. Zombear Writes makes me love poetry more and more every day. She has the ability to write words with such emotion that it hurts. There was so much openness and vulnerability in each poem that has me craving more. The poems create such an intense story about a deep love.
Heartbreak, confusion, loneliness, and healing. If I had to choose only one word to describe this collection of poetry, I wouldn't be able to choose. One single word cannot perfectly summarize what this book means to me.
This poetry resonates very deeply with me. I feel so connected to the author through the poetry in this book, having experienced something similar myself. At the same time, there are specifics to each poem that show the "little details" that make her poetry so unique.
This poetry collection contains so many jewels and demonstrates modern poetic style. Trying to choose only a single favorite poem from this anthology is like trying to choose only one word to sum it up. You can tell that each word is chosen purposefully, and the rhymes (or lack thereof) only enhance the message of each poem. After reading this book, I wanted to keep printed copies of her poems on the wall above my desk andmy pocket to carry with me.
If you are interested in poetry, I highly recommend this book. Even if you don't directly relate to the emotions portrayed in this work of art, you can certainly appreciate the author and her experiences being condensed into just 156 pages.
This book will change your life!!!! I feel like everyone should own this book. The way author was able to wrap readers with so much emotion, was just outer worldly. I could feel every single tear, every single pain, every single love. The deep rooted meaning in each line, makes it just top notch poetry to me. Her carefully chosen words that are so easy to read will grab you in quickly. It was defiantly an experience I would never forget. I was always afraid to walk in my minds path and facing all the pain and sorrow of the past , but with “To Walk On Moonbeams” it was magical experience that I needed the most. Thank you for writing.

Through her poetry, Shelby Marie validates and explores the complicated emotions that occur after a breakup, while also giving life and breathing hope in the journey she ventures on to loving herself, and giving love another chance. Reminding readers that even when it hurts, even when it feels impossible to leave, there is a moonbeam there to guide you home on your journey.
To Walk on Moonbeams is for those who believe in the magic of love.
I’ve been a fan of Shelby for years and I adore everything she writes!
To Walk on Moonbeams is an amazing, beautiful collection of poetry that makes me happy sigh, even on my second read through! Shelby has a down-to-earth style and uses vivid imagery. Each of her poems truly contain a dash of magic! On top of that, she’s just a wonderful soul full of kindness and compassion, which bleeds into her poetry.
