Mind-readers are being hunted, but none are more sought after than her.

Betrayed and abandoned at the altar, Casey King’s trust doesn’t come easily. But fleeing from small-town Kentucky to the bustling city of Atlanta, Casey hopes her new job and sexy new boss, Matt Wilson will help her bounce back. Until, on her twenty-fourth birthday, she becomes a powerful mind-reader, and her promising new life turns into a desperate flight from a General who wants to use people like her for his own ends.

Hiring Casey is either the smartest or the dumbest thing Matt Wilson has ever done. The beautiful Miss King challenges him in a way no one else has, and he can’t deny his attraction to her. But Matt’s brother is sick, and the only man who can save him wants Casey in return.

With Casey’s freedom at stake, and the lines between friend and foe blurred, is Matt the man to heal her past?

Or is he the greatest threat to her future?

Being left at the alter is a devastating experience for Casey King and she tries to get her life on track by going to work for Matt Wilson. But Casey is no ordinary woman and as she reaches the age of twenty-four, special abilities take control of her. She and Matt will have to work together to survive the conflicts that come their way.

The world that Kelley Griffin has built is very intricate and Casey has her own place as a mind-reader in it. As she slowly grows into her powers, she realizes that she has certain responsibilities with certain people relying on her. There are also enemies who would use her power for their selfish desires. Learning to navigate this world is not easy but she has no choice but to do so in order to protect herself and the people around her. Overall, this is an amazing book with beautifully crafted characters. I highly recommend it.

After a Autism vaccine causes paranormal side effects, the government starts testing them. Casey leaves her home in Kentucky, after being left at the altar, and moves to Atlanta. She gets a promotion and moves up. Her new boss is handsome and has a Jekyll/Hyde personality. Matt can tell who has what type of abilities they have. His brother is in a hospital and the only way he will be treated, is with Matt finding so many “special “ people. When Casey turns twenty four, she has extraordinary abilities. Matt needs her to meet his quota but if he does, he might miss something wonderful.

Ok this makes no sense but I have no idea how to describe this story. If I tell too much I might give something away and too little might not be enough. There is lots of action and a little humor. Matt seems sort of a wuss to me and Casey is just trying to get her life lined back out.

This book had me turning page after page! I love the interactions between Casey and Matt! They're so cute! I also really enjoyed the science fiction aspect of it! It's so cool how they read minds even though the way they got the powers is sad! Is the Ghost her uncle? Seems weird they have the same eyes. Is Russ okay? Did Matt really lose his powers? Will everyone take medicine to lose their powers? Who will run the show now that the leaders are gone? Lots of unanswered questions as this book ends, but I hope we get another installment to answer them!

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read a copy of A mind unequal by Kelley Griffin - this could be a series as it was tagged as Casey King, book 1. Left at the altar, Casey moves to Atlanta and tries to start a new life and career -- but winds up falling for her new boss Matt Wilson, who seems to feel the same way about her; except he may have to betray her to save his brother. A vaccine to prevent autism has left some side effects in the children it was given to. Turning twenty-four they become mind-readers or have other supernatural abilities, and now the government is tracking these people down. Casey has always been told she was never vaccinated...now she experiencing major supernatural abilities and is definitely being hunted. Who can Casey trust?
I really enjoyed this book, even though its highly improbable, and was intrigued by the vaccine plot considering where we are today. This book was published more than a year ago just as the pandemic started so given the author may have been writing this before it hit I found it unique and could be used to open up a dialogue with teens on the advantage and disadvantage of vaccine usage. I had several small issues with the plot itself, but took the story at face value and just enjoyed it. However, the ending just stopped. It lost a star for the non-ending as I call it. 31/2 stars rounded up to 4

A Mind Unequal
Casey King Series Book 1. by Kelley Griffin

A very well written book.

A fast moving story once it starts to flow full of intrigue,a little stuttering of romance along the way.

Not my usual genre but very good once I got into it so stick with it. It's a really enjoyable read.

However I personally would have liked more romance but that is just personal taste still an excellent read.

I was given an ARC copy for an honest review. A Mind Unequal is a fast-paced book with mystery, suspense, and some romance thrown in. Paranormal is usually not my favorite, but I LOVE this one!! Can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Once again, Kelley Griffin has written a novel that grips the reader from the very first chapter!! Written from various perspectives, Kelley has created a new group of characters to love and hate! Casey becomes endearing as she struggles to figure out who/what she is – something that so many of us struggle with in real life. Matt is a man who faces daunting decisions that affect his family and ultimately Casey. Seeing the internal struggles of these characters is comforting because they reflect similar struggles readers might have.

The inclusion of romance is always a must-have for me as a reader. The relationship between Casey and Matt is very well-written as they learn the meaning of trust. Perhaps the best aspect of this novel, though, is the suspense!! Kelley truly keeps the reader on the edge with the neck-braking twists and turns as Casey fights for her freedom. I honestly could not read fast enough!! This is another great book by one of my favorite authors!

Reflecting upon A Mind Unequal after reading this alleged first book in a new science fiction mind-reading series by Kelley Griffin, days later I felt puzzled over some of the holes in the introductory book. Casey King is turning 24 years old in a few days, and has been led to believe her entire life that she never received an autism vaccination as a child, so therefore she is free from being affected by mind-reading abilities once she turns 24. Alas, she is not immune from the supernatural skill of “dream walking” and “jumping” and deals with the fallout of her new boss and potential love interest Matt, selling her out to the government for his own personal gain, while also dealing with the aftereffects of being left at the alter, somehow affording her grandfather’s nursing/medical care facility expenses, while discovering her wealthy grandmother got her the most expensive vaccine variation when she was a small child. Big question I had was if her grandparents were so wealthy why is Casey struggling to make ends meet to afford her run down apartment and her grandfather’s living/medical facility? And then there is Matt, the spineless, fear-ridden love interest who is also Casey’s boss. I didn’t hate that Matt had fear and wasn’t confident like so many other ‘heroes’ are in other books, but I did itch to see character development in him and growth of personality. I’m also confused as to why the last page of the book read “The End” as I thought this was the first in a series about Casey King..? Like I said in the introduction of this review, I am puzzled.

I received an ARC from the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review.
