A rebel from childhood, this Dutchman is the founder of Asia’s largest multispecies wildlife rescue centre, a fearless interrupter of illicit wildlife trafficking and an advisor to the Thai government on animal law reform.
This was not always his life. A serious car accident led him to turn his back on a 'perfect', easy living in the fashion business in the search for meaning.
He has been raided, arrested several times, injured and threatened, but his focus is unwavering.
Edwin has been featured liberally on Bondi Vet, Animal Planet and National Geographic and ABC’s Foreign Correspondent.
He is rude, rebellious and recalcitrant, but no one has done more in Asia to give so many rescued animals as close to a wild life as possible.
No holds are barred in this thorough biography of a remarkable game-changer.
Forty minutes from our home, is the Wildlife Friends Foundation of Thailand 🇹🇭
For my birthday back in March, we spent two nights, toured the rescue center, and got to know Edwin Wiek, whom we had met socially in town.🥂.
Upon checking out, I saw this book, bought it, and just read it…it was so interesting that I finished it in two sittings😱
A WILD LIFE, THE EDWIN WIEK STORY
Edwin’s story is incredible…it is fascinating…it is unique in this world 🌎
In his life he had always loved and cared for all animals, but in the late 1990’s, after losing everything…his business, home, car, etc., he dove all in to start a proper wildlife rescue center in Thailand, a country he truly loves. For the past 24 years, the center has grown phenomenally to the point now that is recognized along with Edwin globally for its unique understanding and approach to proper care of rescued wildlife…it is not a zoo…it is a rescue and rehabilitation center for all animals, but mainly wildlife 🙏🏻. He even helped with rescued orangutans moving them back to Borneo 🙏🏻
I am so pleased to have met Edwin…he is truly unique in this world.🙏🏻
We are all lucky to have Edwin in this world fixing the mess that some of our fellow humans have created with our precious wildlife🙏🏻
Thank you Edwin for everything you have done and for everything you do🙏🏻🙏🏻. And thank you KC Permsuwan 🙏🏻
I read this on my flight back, after I volunteered for 3 weeks at WFFT. It’s a great read about a man who has done so much for animals. It does a great job at presenting beyond just the black and white of it all, explains Edwin’s mind and philosophy, and only makes you want to get even more involved.
What a great story, told with warts and all. I really like stories against the odds and especially those that try to help animals. Thanks for telling the story and doing what you do.
