"Each and every page in this book is absolutely beautiful!" – Anakin and His Angel
"It’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing" – SWNN
I bought this book a few years ago because it's really beautiful and I love being able to see all the details of each character's lightsaber. I finally got around to actually reading it through rather than just skimming and looking at the pictures, and there were some cool facts that I didn't know before.
This book has so many lightsabers!! There are great pictures and biographical information on each lightsaber's wielder. Star Wars fans will be like a kid in a candy store reading this one!
Great if you are a hardcore Star Wars fan or heavy into the designs or styles of the series. It has in-depth pictures and details of the weapons from the series. Details that would be hard to notice on the screen. The commentary is also worth reading.
But that’s only if you are the target audience. If you see this book and immediately gasp for joy, go for it. If you see this and wonder how they could make a book or only lightsaber designs, you’d probably be best spending your time on something else.
Menuda joya. Lo he disfrutado enormemente.
I loved seeing in depth designs of all the lightsabers we see throughout the Star Wars universe! The little details are fantastic and any hardcore Star Wars fan would love this in their collection!
This book showcases over 55 different lightsabers from Star Wars movies, TV shows, video games, and comics. Each one is presented with impeccable, artful illustrations of the hilt, the activated blade, and the character who wields it. Each lightsaber also includes a few short paragraphs about the character, the colour of the blade, and behind-the-scenes details such as who portrayed the character, why the designers made it look that particular way, or how the physical prop was constructed for filming. A few of the larger or more significant lightsabers are presented in fold-out pages for greater size and impact.
The book covers lightsabers and characters right up to The Mandalorian (Season 1) and the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game. There is also mention of the lightsaber workshop at the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme parks.
This is an excellent reference work. The illustrations are detailed enough that you could use them as models for building your own lightsaber props. My only complaint is that the book's binding seems fragile. You want to open the book fully to really appreciate the artwork, but I'm worried the binding may fail and some pages may detach.
When I look back at my experiences with the saga, I notice that lightsabers didn't make a huge impact on me. Design wise they were cool and yes the epic battle in The Empire Strikes back between Luke and Vader is one of my favorite scenes, I was just more interested in blasters. It wasn't until Luke's green saber in ROTJ that I really felt a strong affinity to sabers.
Something about that saber just called to me. And when my dad came home one night with a knock off lightsaber that glowed white I would sit in the dark dreaming it was green.
The lightsaber collection is a book made for fans of sabers and the Jedi who wield them. Each page has a high resolution image of the blade and a biography of the the user. There is a nice balance of focus on Lightside and Darkside users as well as an appearance of a Jedi from the High Republic.
Animation and video game characters are included as well. There is also a nice balance between male and female representation. This is a lovely book to add to a collectors shelf as well as a visual reference for cosplayers. I'm very pleased with this book and hope we get future volumes as the saga expands.
A bit of a different book in comparison to the wordy novels I've been reading.
This book serves as a visual compendium of all the lightsabers and their wielders in the known Star Wars universe. It breaks down all the in-depth details and histories of each lightsaber with insightful descriptions and beautifully detailed illustrations.
This book covers pretty much every known lightsaber in the universe up to this point. Whether dark side, light side or inbetween. I was really surprised to see how extensive this book was in terms of the weapons it showed, it took the time to showcase lightsabers from even the comics and video games too which I really appreciated.
Overall, I really enjoyable showcase with some descriptions and accompanying art work. It felt like I was reading a proper historians reflection on them, the book was obviously crafted with a load of care.
My biggest issue with this book is that Wallace does not always name the books or comics he refers to, especially if they are Legends.
This is a fairly comprehensive book about lightsabers among famous and not-so-famous Star Wars characters. Because I never watched TCW or played the VR game, there were characters I didn't know; but because of Rebels and the game Jedi: Fallen Order, I knew almost everyone. Wallace even includes Stellan from THR!
A lot of the blurbs have background information, and some compare/contrast the 'sabers to others. Most of the double-bladed lightsabers have fold out spreads, as well as the Skywalker lightsaber and Ezra's [for lack of a better word] gunblade.
Includes a good spread of characters/lightsabers from across the saga, which is always nice to see. Though the choices of which category to put some of the Jedi in feel inexplicable. As a huge fan of Jedi: Fallen Order and Cal Kestis, I was pretty annoyed that his page talked only about the game mechanics and its lightsaber customization, rather than about him as a character as every other entry did and the fact that there is actually a canon version of his lightsaber that has a lot of good meaning that was left out of this.
This book is super fun to page through for any Star Wars fan! It's tough to really see the details of lightsabers on screen when they are constantly in motion, but this book has you covered. There are close ups of every lightsaber, with notes about the design and character(s) who wield it, all organized by light side vs dark side, and catalogued alphabetically. What more could you ask for?! The designers really put a lot of thought into what made sense for each character's weapon and how it might be influenced by their fighting style and background. I recommend it.
A neat little visual guide depicting the various lightsaber styles of many main characters from both the movies and TV series, and even video games! The artwork is gorgeous, and the little blurbs were neat, talking about both the characters themselves and having little quotes from their [voice] actors.
A beautifully crafted, matte hardcover book that could be a coffee table book for the casual fan, but truly should be in the archive of any true Star Wars fan. The illustrations of the detail on each hilt is lush, and the history behind each and its owner is captivating even for the newest fans. A couple surprise pages to enjoy were also brilliant.
What a fun, beautifully made book! The text can be read through in about an hour or so, but each page just looks so good, with large, high detailed images. I especially liked being able to see Rey's yellow saber and Leia's up close. It is cool to read through some of the design inspirations, and they even discuss some retcons.
Star Wars is such a huge story that some concepts are left to be forgotten. However, this book is a huge reminder to how rich of a concept lightsabers are for Star Wars and the effect they have on fans, actors/actresses, storytellers, and the story itself. Reading this book felt almost mythic with a side mysticism.
Such a cool book and great for light(saber) reading. Yes...I did that. Only downfall is that it's not the definitive guide. There's characters missing from video games, comics, and elsewhere. This only covers the movies and tv shows.
Love it, a must, quick-read for Star Wars lovers. Plus you pick up a lot of information on the various movies, animated series, and even some of the games. Beautiful pictures/illustrations of the sabers, and cool descriptions of the characters who wield them.
A really delightful and well presented book for anyone who loves lightsabers or loosely enjoys this iconic weapon of pop culture. Beautiful illustrations of the saber owners and pristine images of the sabers themselves. Enjoyed very much!
I found this at my job and bought it as a present for my grandfather. He introduced me to the original trilogy when I was little and he's a big fan. So this is the perfect gift for anyone who loves the fandom.
The content of the book itself is great. Beautiful pictures, lore, all wonderful. My only complaint is in the actual book. The heavy glossy pages, combined with a short height but long length, makes the spine in this book give out pretty fast.
A remarkable book filled with intricate details, history, and photos of the gorgeous lightsabers used in Star Wars. It is perfect for the hard-core Star Wars fan! Highly recommend this one!
It's a coffee table book with a little writing thrown in, but the images suffer from being like schematic perspective, especially those CGI-only entries without much close in detail.
