4 1/2 stars!
Even though this is technically part of a series, it can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. The only two things that connect these in any way is they are both authored by Naomi West and they feature a story about a MC. Otherwise there are no connections - no reoccurring characters, no common themes, no references to anything from the previous story and it is authored about a different MC on the other side of the country.
** There are scenes that will be difficult for sensitive readers, high-level examples are listed below. **
Overall, the characters, plot and storyline are solid and comprehensive. There are a few transitions between scenes and/or topics that could be a little smoother, but the difference between the quality of writing between this story and the first one is very noticeable, in a good way.
There are a few grammatical issues, but the issue I pointed out with common spellings / terms known to US readers were fixed in this story for the most part. The errors found include missing words, extra inserted words and incorrect word choice. I mention these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
BLURB:
She was never meant to be in my world. But now that she is, I can’t let her go.
Our enemies have gone too far. When I find Marissa with their insignia branded into her leg… I lose my mind.
This is my town.
Hell Wolves MC territory.
No one lays a hand on civilian women and lives to tell about it. And breaking that rule means war.
But while I go head-to-head with the monsters who did this, I’ve got to keep Marissa safe.
Not just from the beasts who burned her. But also from the beast within me.
Because she’s getting too close for comfort.
And one wrong move could ruin everything.
