What happens when a true-mate dies and leaves their other half to face the world alone?

Some people crumple and fall to pieces. Others trek through life determined to stay busy. The really lucky ones get a second chance at love.

Omega, Cinder Aldred, had it all before his true-mate was taken before his time. After Sivan’s passing, Cinder was forced to work at his parents’ chocolate shop. The hard work never ended, but at least it kept his hands busy. When family secrets nearly see him sold off into a marriage of convenience he reaches out to a distant relative for help. He expected a grand rescue party or at least a covert spy to sneak him out under his parents’ noses. What he got was Seth Warren and his fishing boat. He’s sexy, but is the wolf-man really a match for an enraged dragon?

Alpha, Seth Warren, has grown accustomed to living on his own. His fresh start on Moonscale Island is complicated when his brother asks him to make a pit stop to rescue a dragon from an arranged marriage. Seth’s always up for a challenge and enjoys a good fight, but he could have never guessed a fight on a dock would turn into a fight to save the only man he’s ever loved from the monsters lurking in every corner of his past.

Caught off guard by family secrets and a growing chemistry between them, can the widowed survivors overcome the odds and take the plunge into their second chance happily ever after?

The perfect love after loss story

Seth was in the first book so you know that his true mate died and he went into a downward spiral that took time for him to climb out of.

Cinder also lost his true mate and is now trying to escape an arranged mating. When Seth comes to his rescue as a favor for his brother, neither expect what happens next.

As these two figure out dating abc another chance at live, secrets are discovered and decisions must be made.

I absolutely love this series and how we see how the Moonscales are different from the Hemlocks. It’s a perfect blending of the same world without simply copying the issues from one to the other series. Absolutely delightful and wonderful.

mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings on how to rate this book. There were some editing mistakes that are easily fixable, which is one of my pet peeves. There was some bad things that Reggie? the arranged fiancee was into, but it felt like it was only there for added drama and really didn't add much to the story. For some reason, i couldn't keep track of side characters names, I don't know if that was the way the story was written or I just wasn't as invested.
What I did like was the journey of finding love after losing a true mate. I liked how the character of Cinder would describe the difference and the longing for the mental connection with Seth like he had with his true mate. I liked the relationship he developed with Seth. What got me in the feels was after Cinder watched the video interview of a professor that talked about love after a true mate dies, not going to describe it cause that is important to the reader's journey, but I will say it made me tear up and it is something new I haven't encountered in the paranormal genre after reading 100's of books. I also liked the relationship between the shifter and his dragon/wolf. I liked their interactions, though it did get confusing when they converse with their animal mentally it is written in italics, but so is the group dragon telepathy, so there is confusion over who is talking to who when both are happening at the same time.
There were also some things I wish I knew, like what do Cinder and Seth's animals actually look like. Terminology I don't know, what do they mean when a person dies and their door comes? Is it an actual door you walk through? Maybe that is explained in the first book that I haven't read, which I didn't realize existed at first, but I was already too curious about this one to go find the first. However, most authors give a little recap if something is important, so I thought it would be ok. Why in these alpha/omega universes, are betas always second class citizens and omegas basically under everyone else's control? We need some new variation on this theme.
I am gonna try to read the first book, maybe I will get some answers. I wouldn't purchase this book outright, but if you have KU, i would read it, just be prepared for the editing, the thing I hinted at above made all the little gripes worth it.

Not so Cinderella

Since this is supposed to be at least loosely based on a fairy tale I'm kinda confused. There wasn't really and correlation between this and Cinderella. The only thing that really comes to mind was him working all the time and scrubbing the floor.

Regardless, it was a sweet story about second chances. I hadn't expected it to continue with characters from the first book in the series. I'm kinda annoyed with myself that I didn't read these books before but I seriously thought they were fairy tales not something actually happening in the same timeline as the other book series.

🌟 A Very Good Story!

I was surprised but glad that Seth got a story too. Having each already lost their true-mates he and Cinder had a harder road ahead of them, especially with all the family drama and bad guys to deal with. I really appreciated the realistic struggles they each went through before they met. Theirs was a much harder road to an HEA made all the sweeter for it.

Rescued

Cinder is an omega that needs to escape an arranged marriage. Seth is just the wolf for the job! Great romance!
