Give Yourself Margin: A Guide to Rediscovering and Reconnecting with Your Creative Self

Rate this book
A gorgeously illustrated interactive guide to changing your mindset, rekindling creativity, and embracing imperfection.

“Give yourself margin” is a sewing maxim about leaving enough excess fabric to account for potential mistakes. This book is about giving yourself the space—the mental margin—to reconnect with your creative self by trying new things and, yes, even by failing sometimes. With lush illustrations, empowering interactive prompts, and inspiring personal stories, Give Yourself Margin is the perfect gift for anyone who is looking to rediscover their spark.

The description fits this book perfectly. I am glad I picked this up and to my satisfaction, I can say that the universe sent me this book in the right time. Hereby saying, I would add that I am thankful for Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for allowing me to read this title and browse others too. It is a blessing, truly.

Give Yourself Margin by Stacie Bloomfield is a wonderfully created self-help guide which will lead you towards stages of knowing, followed by self-reflecting, exploring and focusing on positivity through different kinds of practices which include Gratitude lists, affirmations and notes of teachings on recieving, giving, sharing and loving.

A read to be cherished highly.

I believe that every womxn should read this book. Stacie’s capacity to connect through art means that you don’t have to be an avid reader to enjoy and benefit from Give Yourself Margin. And if meaningful, inspiring artwork isn’t enough to make you pick up this book, there are so many helpful guides that range from goal setting, to gratitude, to acknowledging your support network. And finally, the best part is that this book acknowledges that even though you might not think you’re an artist or creator, the truth is, you actually are, and it makes it extremely clear how to move towards developing just that. Seriously, go read this book!

I was given a free e-arc of this book! I can’t wait to get my hands on my pre-ordered copy.

This is a book that I know I’ll come back to repeatedly. Stacie is like your wise best friend, reminding you of all of the truths you already knew, but maybe had abandoned on your way to achievement. She’s there to remind you that it’s ok to rest, and that self care is the best way to nurture your creativity.

Her message is clear: Follow your gut. Trust your intuition. Take care of yourself.

The illustrations are great, too. I read the ebook version, and found myself taking screenshots of my favorite ones to refer back to later.

I’m keeping this book in my arsenal to refer back to later, when I’m creatively burnt out and need some good, solid advice.

3/5 stars!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The illustrations in this book are so gorgeous! Unfortunately, I like the illustrations more than the self-help part. Those are not actually bad, I just felt nothing and haven't had any realizations during and after reading. Other readers might find this helpful, though.

I love this book...it is beautiful and so so needed. I was lucky enough to receive an advanced reading copy. The illustrations are stunning and the color palette is so soothing and lovely. I love the stories and the suggestions that Stacie Bloomfield includes on how to be kinder to yourself. I will come back to this book again and again for inspiration and clarity. This is a gorgeous book for yourself and buy one for your best friend!

"We can view life as a series of problems to be solved instead of a beautiful mystery to be discovered. When we feel stuck, we just try to push through the discomfort instead of listening to the inner voice that is begging us to slow down."

Perfect book when you seek inspiration in just one sitting. Each page delights the mind as well as the eye. What I especially loved about it is that majority of the content can be used as a display. This is beauty with a purpose.

This was a sweet book, filled with lots of encouragement. But also not a lot of content. More illustrious then words and I enjoyed my copy from the library- was glad I didn’t buy it 😬 it was a good reminder that I am the only one who can add beauty and balance to my life. No one can add margin or take a sabbath rest for myself except myself. I have to put myself on the list of priorities too. I feel like I do a good job of this because my mom warned me that she didn’t… I hope I can learn from her wisdom!

A good set of mini ideas, suggestions, journal prompts and fun 'pats on the back' to help you to find YOUR margin... whilst not an in depth guide it has given me pause for thought on where I could scrounge 10 orn15 minutes a day

Gorgeous illustrations, kind of hallmark card advice. It was more like vague advice/encouragement about chasing your dreams than actual thoughts about how to rekindle creativity.

A sweet, simple, and swift read. Well, simple if you just *read* it rather than doing/applying it, that is! I read it in an evening, sitting in the recliner while my kids played—I would consider it a single sitting read, though it can also be referred back to. The art is amazing! Absolutely loved that part. I would like prints or postcards of many of them!

Review: Give Yourself Margin by Stacie Bloomfield
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)

Give Yourself Margin is a beautifully illustrated, heartfelt guide that encourages us to pause, breathe, and reclaim space in our lives for creativity, rest, and self-growth. With warmth and authenticity, Stacie Bloomfield—artist, entrepreneur, and founder of Gingiber—shares her personal journey of balancing motherhood, business, and artistic ambition.

The central concept of the book is “margin”—the emotional, mental, and spiritual space we need to live meaningful, sustainable lives. In a world that glorifies busyness, Bloomfield reminds us that slowing down is not failure, but a path to rediscovering our purpose and creativity.

Through practical tips and inspiring reflections, she gently nudges us to:
• Set healthy boundaries
• Embrace imperfection and growth
• Develop sustainable routines
• Prioritize self-care and stillness

Some of the most touching advice includes journaling your daily experiences, saying “yes” and “no” intentionally, allowing yourself to rest, and reconnecting with nature and loved ones. She also reminds us that we are all uniquely creative beings, each contributing something irreplaceable to the world.

This book is not just for artists—it’s for anyone feeling overwhelmed, lost, or disconnected in the fast-paced flow of modern life. After reading it, you’ll feel inspired to create your own margin, listen to your inner voice, and live more intentionally.

A soul-soothing, creatively empowering read that I’ll return to again and again.

I picked up Give Yourself Margin during a tough period in my career as a digital designer. I felt stuck, unsure of which path to take or what kind of design role I should pursue.

Through reflective questions and practical advice, the author encouraged me to slow down and reconnect with myself—something I had neglected for years. I realized that I wasn’t truly lost; I was simply staying within a “safe zone,” following the crowd to avoid making mistakes. Deep down, I had a different vision for my design career, one that focused on adding value to the community. However, the uncertainty and challenges of this path left me feeling scared and hesitant.

One quote that stood out to me was:
"To get unstuck in your life, you have to clear your own path. Then you have to take one step. And then another."
This reminded me that growth is a process, and there’s no single “right” way to move forward.

This book reignited my long-buried dreams and gave me the courage to try again, even in the face of uncertainty. It’s a powerful read for anyone feeling lost, offering both comfort and motivation. If you’re seeking to reconnect with your creative self, I highly recommend this book.

Even if you were to consider only the illustrations on this book, it would be totally worth it. They're stunning and directly relate to the message she wants to get through. I've spent several minutes observing all the details in each one. They're inspiring.

The content is more about Stacie's struggle and learning experiences as a creative and a creative business owner than a self-improvement guide. Even though she is delivering interesting actionable tasks to get the best out of life on well-being and creative living, the most value for me comes from her experience. I've known Stacie's work for a while and I admire her trajectory and her accomplishments. As someone starting a new path on the creative side of life, it was a nourishing reading.

If you're willing to live a more creative life and lack the confidence to take the first step or if uncertainties and fears are holding you back, you should definitely read this and let yourself be inspired - it's just perfect for that. Overall, it's a pleasant, easy and beautiful book that can bring joy for those open to the message.

I received an advance copy of Stacie Bloomfield’s - GIVE YOURSELF MARGIN, a book about giving yourself space mentally, emotionally, and physically to make mistakes, get creative, and live a more intentional life. Not only is it absolutely stunning, it’s also full of loving reminders to create space for the unexpected, to make yourself a priority, and to tune into your inner knowing that tells you when to go all in and when to slow down. The journal prompts sprinkled throughout the book provide thoughtful pockets of reflection to gain insight into your life right now, while also creating space for you to dream about all those future goals. It provides a moment of pause to breathe, relax, and look at things from a new perspective through beautiful and intentional illustrations. Reading this book gave me the energy I needed to begin injecting more creativity into my life while prioritizing my personal goals from a rested, elevated, and inspired place. Thank you Stacie for pouring your heart and soul into this book and for sharing it with the world!

I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy of “Give Yourself Margin” by Stacie Bloomfield. It is a quick read, but gave me many moments of pause to stop and think about exactly *how* am I giving myself margin in my life?

If you’re not familiar with that sewing term, it refers to giving yourself space to make mistakes, granting yourself wiggle room to expand your borders. This book includes empowering interactive prompts that allow you to stop right there in the book and reflect. It gives you the literal space to jot down how you can give yourself figurative space in your everyday life.

This isn’t a “read it once and set it aside” type of book. With its beautiful illustrations and interactive, thought provoking pages, you’ll keep this book handy for frequent revisits!

A beautiful little book of encouragement.
I received an advance copy of this book, and I can't put it down. "Give Yourself Margin" is filled with so many beautiful illustrations, that I literally want to frame almost every spread and hang it on the wall in my studio. It's like a bibliotherapy book about listening to yourself, connecting with your internal compass, and finding the way to achieve your goals. Stacie also reminds you to take care of yourself throughout the book, shares her own stories and little exercises to help. This book will make a very nice gift, especially in these times of uncertainty.

As a mother, who is undertaking drastic life changes thanks to the pandemic, including virtual learning with a child, life feels very overwhelming, and Stacie Bloomfield's new book is just what I need to refocus. I received a PDF copy of "Give Yourself Margin" in advance of the release, and I have so enjoyed the delightful artwork (what first led me to become a Gingiber follower on instagram). I was thoroughly surprised by the theme of the book - how could Stacie know exactly what I would need for this exact moment of my life? I can't wait to utilize this book to rekindle my creative side, but also to soothe myself and refocus on good in these crazy times we are living in.

I absolutely love the imagery and I love that each page has a heading such as the list below. However this is one of those books that could’ve just been aposter. The stories are interesting but short and you don’t connect with the author as much as you want to if it were this easy to change my life I would’ve changed it already. This book is the quintessential cat hanging from a tree poster that says hang in there. The image is cute but you need more of a boost than that to keep you going
listen to your gut
Show up for yourself
Make room for a community
Give yourself permission to fail
give yourself permission to say yes or no

I had a very short relationship with this book. It cheers me up and at the same time reminded me that I can do a lot of things. It is a self-help and a self-love book written in the eyes of someone with a high sense of artistry.

It somehow motivates you and it helps you set boundaries as well in terms of when you should stop or say “no” to things or people. The book is very interactive as it will ask you to fill out stuff and do things for yourself. I did not fill out the pages where I should as I look forward to share this book with my niece. I finished the book on the same day that I bought it 😊 I truly had fun!

Everything is lovable in this book: the illustrations, the message and the words chosen to convey it. Give Yourself Margin just reminds us that we need to take time and space to be productive, creative and happy, while providing great creative examples from the author. I really loved the illustrations, their style, their colors, and the way they were connected with text.

An inspirational book I'd like to revisit.

I came in fully thinking it'll mostly be like a guide to help me be more creative. Even when that isn't the case, I did love the way she wrote out things that were pretty much already said enough in plenty other self-help books. It did inspire me to spare myself some time to really "live" and not just getting through day to day. The artwork is gorgeous and I found myself wishing I was able to go on an 'artist's retreat' with the author and her peers. The book felt like a nice friend that I didn't listen to as much as I should be.

What an uplifting book!

Give yourself a little margin, a little white space as author says and be more mindful about yourself and (loving) others. Take more time, make room for community, self-care, be creative. And creativity is all that and more. In all parts in our lives we can be creative. And life is more fun that way!

Short, concise and beautifully illustrated guide. Wonderful gift for yourself and friends, too.

This beautifully illustrated book carries such a sweet message. Give yourself Margin reminds us all to carve out time for self care, to forgive ourselves and reevaluate what makes us happy. The themes in this book really come to life beside the authors stunning visual designs and remind the reader that creativity is all around you should you be encouraged enough to seek it out. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

This was truly a nice little self help book to read, with lots of advices and beautiful art accompanying it. We should all take notes. I know I did. Here's a few:

→ give yourself permission to fail
→ there's more than one way forward
→ you are not responsible for other people's feelings
→ the only thing that is certain is that you will feel uncertain from time to time
→ give yourself permission to say “no”

This book really helped me see through the everyday chaos and clearly help define what steps I needed to take. Filled with positivity and support I finished the book feeling more confident about my next steps. Thank you Stacie for writing such an inspiring book!

I cannot get over the artwork in this book, it is absolutely stunning! I'd more than happily buy this book just for the visuals alone - beautiful. I also love the layout, the colours, the quotes, I honestly love everything.

The only thing I will say is that I agree with another reviewer that, this book is more self-help than inspiring creativity.
