I read this manga because my sister recommended it to me. (Actually she said not to read it because it was violent and graphic, but she kept talking about it so I had to read it).

As I was reading Tokyo Ghoul re, I kept thinking that series 1 was much better. Re had sooo many new characters that I didn’t find myself caring about, in fact many of them annoyed me. The story was also more confusing than part 1 and I kept reading, waiting for the story to get exciting again.

BUT, the payoff at the end was sooo worth it. The last 3rd of re really pulled everything together and was extremely satisfying. Especially when Hide showed up again! Everything after that was A++. I was scared I wouldn’t like the ending or that certain favorite characters would die. But, I was impressed by the author’s ability to tie everything together at the end and make the story unforgettable.

I think my absolute favorite character (ever since he stole that motorcycle) is Juzo Suzuya. He’s just amazing and I was constantly rooting for him as he fought in those slippers (If he had died my rating would have been much lower). I loved when he said “What is peace anyway? I don’t know what it is. People, ghouls... if one is gone, is that peace?” I can’t say enough about how much I like Juzo.

I think the best character was Amon and I’m SO GLAD he and Kaneki got to reunite after everything, and just that whole chapter of him, Akira, Touka and Kaneki was what I was WAITING for. When he told Touka that the pain he feels after losing Mado isn’t directed at her, but “It’s directed at the world that forced us to do what we did,” and he’d been wanting to tell her that, was such a good moment. I knew since part 1 when Amon was captured that he and Kaneki would meet again, but not as enemies and that Amon would become essentially what he dedicated his life to killing. He was the character who constantly questioned his actions and himself to figure out what was morally right, and I’m proud of him for that. Also, when he admitted to himself that he loved his “father” despite everything because he had good memories was heartbreaking. But, Amon was a steady favorite of mine since part 1 (and I ship him with Akira).

The character in re who had the most development is of course Urie. I really didn’t like Urie in the beginning. He was stuck up, and didn’t care that his actions hurt other people, as long as he could manipulate things to his advantage and gain status. (But his thoughts did make me laugh). But WOW did his character turn around and he became an ACTUAL leader. I was so impressed and loved seeing him thrive and protect everyone. I especially loved how he and Saiko handled the situation with Mutsuki. I honestly thought Mutsuki was too far gone, but surprisingly everything worked out better than I thought. (I loved when Mutsuki was fighting and Nishio was impressed). So yeah, good for Urie!

Ayato also had a great character arc and I really enjoyed his character in re. He seemed like a totally different person than that lost, rebellious boy who treated his sister bad. When he called kaneki his brother! (I was so scared he would die for kaneki so his sister wouldn’t lose her husband). And I ship him and Hinami (I assume they were together at the end).

And of course, this story had a great main character. Kaneki is constantly struggling throughout this story and being able to see his thoughts (which were incredibly relatable) truly made this story great. There was no way I could stop reading because I had to know what happened to Kaneki. Just everything that happened to this character and the fact that HE GOT HIS HAPPY ENDING WITH TOUKA AND HIS DAUGHTER was wonderful! AND HE EVEN GOT HIS BEST FRIEND BACK! Now, Kaneki made some mistakes and he wasn’t perfect, but I was constantly rooting for him. If he didn’t get that happy ending I would not like this story very much. How could you not love Kaneki? All the characters who cared for him and we’re waiting for him to wake up are proof that he deserved his happy ending.

Overall, I wouldn’t say this is my favorite manga. While the gore didn’t bother me, it did at times feel unnecessary. However, I did enjoy the story and am glad I read it! This one was the most thought provoking that I’ve read so far. Thinking back to the very beginning, when Kaneki became a ghoul and struggled with losing his humanity, to how things turned out in the end, with Kaneki as the leader of the ghouls striving towards peace. And how at times it was the humans that were the monsters, not the ghouls. Nishio said himself, after seeing what Kaneki turned into, that even he didn’t think ghouls should exist. Then it’s pointed out that the ghouls are the ones risking their lives to solve a problem created by humans, because Kaneki wasn’t a ghoul to begin with. And how the CCG was actually run by the Washu who were ghouls! But in the end, Kaneki (with the help of Hide) was able to unite humans and ghouls, who could then live in harmony with one another against a common threat. One of my favorite lines is when Amon asked “What is the most important quality in an investigator?” and he says it’s “fighting for peace” and they should fight with the ghouls. I felt like Hide KNEW which characters were needed to make the two groups unite. And how Kaneki and Touka made Yomo realize “that there’s more than just loss for us,” and that there is something to be gained by everything they went through. I could go on and on.... There’s just a lot to think about with this one.

“If I were to write a book with me as the main character... it would be a tragedy.”

Manga is not everyone's cup of tea, but its story with some hardline truth of this particular Manga Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul: re is something special where adults too can prefer it worth if they have the patience of reading like the concept of a picture story. Tokyo Ghoul is my favourite anime, thus I'm speaking in the position of a Fan, some plots are missing in anime series that one must thus give it a try to carefully understand the connection of the plots in the anime, further this manga series is worth trying for its concept of human and ghoul and some of its written content is worth reading, regardless if you find manga Boring I definitely suggest watching the anime.AS deriving from Ken kaneki words..The world is not messed up, it’s those of us in it, each day we are entangling the threads that bind us together with unwanted situations arising each day. SO I guess we have to learn a lot not about others but about ourselves too. The way is long my mate, and the road we are taking is full of hurdles but the irony is to understand the sweetness of the fruits at the end one needs to overcome even greater hurdles. And so I say in this entangled world rest up a bit take a cup of COFFEE and READ, read whatever comes across, who knows you may find serenity with your imagination...

Honestly, if one doesn't enjoy the wonderful personal growth of every single character in this story, then i really don't know what one can enjoy in their lives.

It's about a pure being who is force to break physical and mentally, so hard that he would never be the person he once was.

And amongst all those tortures he finds his purpose, friends and family.

If one reads this manga at perfect timing, when one faces huge changes, especially a painful one, this manga would be a treasure for them beyond compare.

(The manga is an absolute masterpiece, but the anime is a nightmare! The first season is nice, but since season 2 and the rest are nothing like the manga, you would face countless scenes that wouldn't make any sense! So just do yourselves a favor and read the manga instead of wasting your time on the anime.)

Oh yea this series really is a bop. its really good. U HAVE TO READ THIS IF U READ TOKYO GHOUL cuz i couldn't possibly live with that ending. The ending was awful so i really needed a sequel and this really does give u everything u did not have in the first season. Well its not really a season but yk what i mean. Also u get a good ending at the end where u can sleep just fine. If i had to, but if i really HAD TO i would probably say i preffered the first season but this is totally personal and am still very happy i read this. Honestly if u stopped at the first part not knowing this is out, WHAT ARE YOU DOING

A beautiful and fitting end to this masterpiece of a manga. Despite some threads not ending as tidily as they could have, I simply don't care. Not only does Ishida's art style mature in his second part of the series, but his depth as well. I will always remember this story, and am terrified whenever I am close to finishing it on a read-through.

edit: Mutsuki and Urie deserved more. Definitely. In my head, they got together within the 6 years after the dragon war. You can't change my mind.

Confession: I think my only goal in life will be to have enough money to buy all the books in Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul: re. Also, do yourself a favour and spend hours of your life reading the masterpiece that is Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul: re.

Was re messy? Yes. Was it confusing at times? Yes. But was it a masterpiece? A 100 times yes!!. The complexity of the characters, the backstories, the intertwining of lives, the manipulation, the revenge, and the story-telling were impeccable.

Our favourite couple FINALLY finally finally develop a relationship worthy of crying and writing about. The longing, the pining, the wait was so long but so worth it. I can only hope to have a relationship as resilient as that one. , the bite-mark, the companionship, the love.... The way Touka was the name that brought Kaneki out of his dismembered misery. The way Touka was the first face that came to his mind when thinks of who he lives for. I feel like crying every time I think about Kaneki and Touka.

The best part of the last 2 volumes was Hide. Hide and Kaneki deserved so much more storytime together. I'm so glad Hide existed because he was literally the glue (along with Kaneki of course) that brought the ghouls and CCG together. In my opinion, Hide was, in a way, the representative of the CCG in Kaneki's relationship to the world. While Kaneki was a representative of someone who knew ghouls weren't necessarily bad people as a whole.

Urie is probably the hottest character after Kaneki. Or maybe they are on par. I like how Urie's character developed so well. He turned from a power-hungry boy who blamed everyone else to a man who learned to care about others: the Quinx, Takeomi, Mutsuki, Shirazu Haru. Moreover, he realised that he was capable of love and deserved it too. (Imightbeshippingshirazu'ssisterharuwithhimisthatjustme)

I never will get Uta, Itori and Yomo's relationship. It is mind-boggling. Uta can only have "fun" when Renji is alive and Itori so she just does whatever makes Uta happy. It's a questionable relationship albeit a bit better than a murderous one.

Is it just me or were

Anyways, this is not a well-articulated review with a character and story analysis of all the things I loved, but I can tell you this: I love the story and the characters with all my heart. Period. A lot of people seem to hate it for some reason which I don't understand. at. all.

I will proceed to mope about the fact that I have finally finished reading this masterpiece.

P.S. Also, Chapter 125 was such a plot-twist. did not expect it but like I confess that it was very much to my liking. DON'T SEARCH UP THE CHAPTER AND SPOIL IT FOR YOURSELVES. please read it. It is so worth the wait.

Make sure to read Tokyo ghoul before starting the sequel !
But this series..I didn’t realise how important to me it was till now.
I started reading Tokyo ghoul and Tokyo ghoul re in 2014. I was in year 7 I thought it was a really cool ,dark story and just enjoyed the ride . I didn’t really understand the ending of TG RE back in 2018 and I just carried on with my life.
Fast forward to now and like any other human I went through hardships ,I lost people I loved and in 2022-2023 in the worse of it by far I picked the whole Tokyo ghoul series again .

And it was like a whole different story ,the characters ,the tragedies ,the pain, the persistence ,the hope . This story had so much thought and emotions then .
I think it taught me to accept what happened in my life and keep striving which I think is a beautiful message .
To Keep trying in this meaningless world
I wonder how I’ll view the story in a decade from now ? When I pick it up again

Also the art is just fucking beautiful and everyone is so pretty 10/10

As an owner of the original box set of TG, I have feeling like I had been slaped with a raw fish.
Prequel was full of character develompment, focus on drama, world building was interesting. Just good story in many ways ( i rated it 4/5, really like it ). With RE, i had to push myself to finish it. World building is out of nowhere mixed up, all lore is made as they go. New characters are apearing like they were made in some factory. For some reason, all of them need to have a dramatic backstory. Plot has so many holes, swiss cheese compared to RE is holless + i can see some obsession with double page panels, but all of them feel the same. If you watched the show and someone said. AAAAA, show had many holes and overall it's bad, surprise manga isn't much better than show. Just read original TG and don't pay attention to TG: RE

More like 3.5⭐️
Adult 18+: TW: torture, murder, gore, abuse, suicide, implied rape& masturbating, explicit sex scene, transphobia

Tokyo Ghoul RE: Is DARK. The story primarily follows Ken Kaneki, who lost his memory and now goes by Haise, training as a ccg investigator. It’s an interesting twist seeing the ‘human’ perspective.
New characters are introduced, old characters come back from the dead & a different enemy arises forcing Ghouls & Humans to work together.
The ending is happy in this series, of all things I didn’t expect that since TG RE: is darker than the first series. Which I preferred the first manga series, Tokyo Ghoul, maybe because I’m a sucker for cliff hangers and it wasn’t as dark.

The glossary at the beginning of each manga was a huge help with keeping track of the massive amount of characters introduced & that kept coming back from the ‘dead’.

THE BEST MANGA I EVER HAVE READ.
A couple of years ago I got this manga box set as a gift from my parents. I’m not that kind of a person when it comes to reading comics and manga, but to be fair this manga series had the most outstanding story I have ever read. The plot is oddly unique. Especially the characters, their backgrounds were so dark and pathetic. Sui Ishida, the writer and illustrator, made a masterpiece. One of the main reasons for that is the main character Ken Kaneki. His character is absurdly well written.
And omg the artstyle is so insanely good. Ishida can express the emotions of the characters really well through his art. I'm absolutely in love with it.

I really recommend to read the manga first before watching the anime.

I almost lost all hope for this series until it all snapped into place and then it was a complete snowball to the end.
It does lose a star for feeling like a discount edgier version of the original storyline for awhile, though. I was worried I'd have to do a 1* review but I should have had more faith in the author (my apologies to said author).

One thing I love about the series is that author doesn't make monolithic groups. Each person in a group has their own dreams and values and opinions and sometimes that clashes with the group itself. It's incredibly refreshing.

A really great sequel series to tokyo ghoul, I loved how the story started out with Haise Sasaki and the Quinx squad. Revisiting old characters was so great to see and I enjoyed how the story progressed and it was wrapped up really nicely. Really sad to say goodbye to this series as I have been keeping up with it for a long time but this was done really nicely and I'm glad to see it done well rather than milked for as long as possible at the cost of ruining the story.

This was so much better than the prequel. We got to see two completely different sides of Kaneki and we got introduced to tons of new characters mostly in the CCG.

A lot of people seem to have issues with the ending, I think it ended perfectly.

I loved this second series even more than the first. Getting to explore more of the world, the conspiracies, and the characters within it was so interesting. The art was beautiful, and I loved watching things play out. The ending felt really satisfying to me, and many of the character arcs played out in ways that made a lot of sense for them. It felt like most things built to a satisfying conclusion, and I loved the journey as well. 4.5/5
