Conquering this backwater planet should have been easy.

I picked up this book the second I finished the first book. And I bought the third book the second I finished this one. I was on the road, in the mountains, in West Virginia and had to use my hotspot. But I got it! Happy lady here! I'm sure I'll be finished before I get home in a few days. Nonstop action. It tugs are the heartstrings. Curses. I forgot to bring a box of tissues! Thanks for the amazing read!
Don’t waste your time with this nothing author unless you like to read bout atrocious atrocities. There is nothing worth reading here. This guy should look for a second job immediately before he pollutes the English language any further.
Another great series by Daniel Arenson. Soldiers from earth on a home on another planet. Fast read and lot of dark times for the people already living there. Now onto #3 to see what happens next.
Started as a good follow up to the first story, but then it kind of went sideways and lost the story. Later it tried to get back to the story but I felt it needed help.
A masterful crew of characters and a twisting storyline makes for a great read!
Three of the four members of Symphonica, a metal band - Jon Taylor, keyboardist and leader of the band, George Williams, drummer and a virtual giant towering head and shoulders over the third member, his sister, Kaelyn Williams, singer and as petite as her brother was tall with long flowing red hair. Paul, the 4th member of the band, was a casualty of the war on Bahay, a far distant planet settled by refugees from the Philippines. George and Jon are now on Bahay, fighting for their lives against the Kalayaan - Bahayan guerrilla fighters. The jungle is alive with the sounds of wildlife and bullets.
As the survivors of Symphonica struggle to find the killer of their bandmate, the detestable Ernesto Santos, their leader, Sgt. Lizzy Pascal, wants to find him for another reason, for torturing and raping her and cutting off her hand. Jon has fallen for a young Bayahian girl named Maria Imelda de la Cruz, who is fleeing from the cruel, bloodthirsty, jungle fighter and terrorist.
The characters drive this story and weave through twists and turns of the storyline. The story is led by the members of Symphonica - in the jungle, the streets and the bars of South Bahay. Jon has taken a 4 day leave spent in the arms of Maria, even marrying her in a mock wedding which he plans to make real and take her back to Earth. Jon, George, some of their platoon mates, Maria and some barber's are celebrating in the Go Go Cowgirl, the seediest bar on the seediest world in the seediest corner of the galaxy. The Go Go Cowgirl. A haunt for drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes, and the soldiers they serviced. The party is interrupted by Ernesto as he bursts into the room and shoots Sgt. Lizzy in the chest. Jon fires a lucky shot, the bullet removing a portion of Ernesto's skull and splattering the wall with blood and small pieces of brain matter and bone.
That begins this tale of the horrors of battle and the cost of warfare on the soldiers who fight. Easy to return to the real world and put the terror behind you. Just forget about it, get on with your life. Forget about the blood, the gore, the smell of death and excrement, rot and propellants, the decaying jungle and bodies. Yeah, just put it behind you, let it go.
Sorry. Anyway, this is an amazing tale of warfare in the future. The characters are believable and endearing. The story is not too farfetched to hold you, engulf you, bring a quiet chuckle in the night, or a gasp of pure terror when it gets too real.
This is truly an amazing story from a master storyteller. I highly recommend this great read!
Second equally grueling installment of Jon’s story
And that of George, Maria, Lizzie and Etta, as the war continues and the carnage increases on both sides, suppression and persecution and hostilities ever-increasing.
