By far the most useful book to ever exist. Seriously, where was this book when I was in high school??? It has some ridiculously useful tips on essay planning and outlining, thesis statement compositions, essay writing, editing, peer reviewing, and even has info on all the different formats of citations. There are also many sample essays and activities throughout the book. The humorous way in which the author communicates information makes this book engaging and ACTUALLY FUN TO READ. Can't praise this book enough. Definitely worth spending 25$ on. If you're planning on doing English or even if you just want a different perspective on essay writing, read this book; you'll definitely have something to take away from it.

This guide strikes the perfect balance between entertaining to read and incredibly informative, with all the tools a college student needs to succeed in an introductory English course. I'm excited to have it as both a personal reference and a teaching tool for effective academic writing!

A fun composition guide written using the extended metaphor of mad scientists and all things horror for first year college students.

The Mad Scientist Guide is a jocular freshman introduction to composition.

Grammar, free-writing, outlining, punctuation, and outlining-in-reverse (my favorite) are all here. So are examples using student drafts.

If you have a monster kid or grandkids, give him this book when they enter high school.
