Kamala Harris is one of today's most prominent political figures. During her time in Congress, she has been an inspiration to many, advocating for equal rights, immigration and criminal justice reform, and a more united country. In the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, she's a contender to become the first female U.S. president. However, her story is about more than its most recent developments. In this easy-to-read biography, young readers will learn about Harris' life from her childhood to present day, her accomplishments as an attorney, and her challenges in politics.
Succinct. I liked the highlights and how it focused on her career in terms of accomplishments and success. The photographs used fit the style of the story. I'll definitely let my kiddos read this series.
This is written for kids I suppose. It's only 24 pages long and written in a giant font [rude comment omitted]. One very interesting excerpt is this: italic text: In 2016 she became California's second female African American senator. She fought for rights for immigrants, women and workers. Immigrants. Um yeah, she seems to have forgotten about that bc she clearly doesn't give a shit now. This book also says that Kamala Harris wrote a book about her life in 2019. I bet that is an interesting read (pfft!).
For your young students wanting to more about the nominee for vice president, here is an introduction to Kamala Harris through her 2019 presidential run. I appreciated that the book is illustrated with photographs, which I think kids will relate to.
Kamala Harris mini biography written for middle grade Readers. She is an inspiration, advocating for equal rights, immigration and criminal justice reform, and a more united country.
