This is a library find that I decided I had to own (and lucky me, I got it for my birthday!). It's packed with recipes that sound amazing, and there is a lovely photo for each recipe. I tried my first recipe from the book tonight (Pasta e fagioli) and it was amazing. The whole family liked it, which is rare around here. I can't wait to try more recipes in the coming weeks.
With the rise of veganism and plant based lifestyles, the shelves are teaming with cookbooks. As a Bosh fan, I was excited to hear that they were releasing a new healthy vegan cookbook. I was not disappointed.
The recipes are simple and family friendly. They will appeal to vegans and the most reluctant meateaters. There are dishes for a healthy family weekday dinner, recipes for celebrations (such as roast dinners and pizza) and many dishes that I think would be easy to prepare ahead of time to take to work for lunch.
Some of the tasty recipes include; Spicy lentil soup, Braised jack chilli, Sunny Sri Lankan curry and Jacked flapjacks.
This is the third cookbook that Henry Firth and Ian Theasby have released under their Bosh name, and while it’s not as though there’s anything wrong with this one, I just didn’t enjoy it as much of the others, possibly because it was all about providing healthier recipes and so there was less vegan junk food for me to tuck into. Not that I even eat that much of the stuff these days anyway.
What I did get was a few good ideas for meals that I could experiment with, which I now find much more fun and more appealing than cooking by following a recipe. I also appreciated the additional information that the book included at the start of it, including a bunch of reference notes and some further information on nutrition, which is good news for people who are sick of being asked where they get their protein from.
Overall, if you’re trying to eat healthier and you’re using a plant-based, whole food diet to get you there, this is a pretty good book for giving you some inspiration in the kitchen. It might not be something that you turn to every evening, but there are certainly a few ideas in there that can help you to do something different for a special occasion. Yum.
I’ve made around 10 recipes from this book so far and everything was delicious (even my boyfriend agreed who doesn’t like my cooking half the time), plus super healthy and quick and easy to make, with no weird ingredients - just simple vegetables and grains. I also really appreciate the first 60 pages of the book that talk about how to actually BE healthy, as well as all the different nutrients and vitamins we need in our diet and how to get them. I would highly recommend this cookbook (and all other BOSH books).
I have never been disappointed by a single Bosh recipe from either a cookbook or online and this book lives up to expectations! I'm making it my new year goal to work through every recipe.
Great tips in this booked and loved reading about their story and how they now have a much healthier lifestyle. Some great recipes that I cannot wait to try
Bosh recipes always look delicious, but sadly, they also take so much work and so many ingredients. I saved a few of these to write out in my cookbook but a lot of these are well out of my price and time range. The difficult thing is that I know they’re delicious as well! There was a great introduction with some wonderful context for those who aren’t vegan already, or who are just starting out. There’s a lot here if you have the time and energy though, but for everyday recipes, this is not the cookbook for you.
Fantastic colour photos make me salivate just looking at them. I love the boys philosophy when it comes to eating vegan. I am a meat eater who wants to do better for the world we live in. They make me want to eat more plant based meals and I can’t wait to cook from this book.
Too filled with pseudoscience to entice my appetite.
It is because of this kind of vegans that people assumes I might be into alternative medicine, homeopathy, or against vaccines when they learn I am vegan.
Brilliant book. I absolutely loved the introduction. The only down side is that most recipes have some sort of spicy element, such as cayenne pepper, chilli or curry powered. For someone that doesn’t like spicy food it’s a down side. The solution will be to just not add those, but I’m still unsure how it will affect the recipes. Can’t wait to try them all though.
This is my first BOSH! Cook book and I will be referring to their recipes for sometime. I was happy to see the healthy suggestions to being vegan, plant-based for I see many vegan still eating take out, and prepackaged foods. This offers a more fully sustainable view on maintaining health and wellness.
They were far too liberal with labeling dishes as "protein packed." Plus, all the recipes are formatted horribly. The prepping method for each ingredient is buried in the instructional text, making it hard to reference quickly. Rather than doing what most cookbooks do with formatting the prep style of each ingredient in the list (ex: 3 garlic cloves, sliced.)
I loved the introduction to healthy eating and veganism which was well researched and not faddy/preachy. There are some fantastic sounding received using everyday ingredients that should be easy to follow and I can't wait to try a few especially the Sri Lankan Curry and the mushroom pie.
I bought one of the BOSH books about a month ago and wanted to check out the writers' other cookbooks. There were many recipes that looked interesting that I would like to try.
Not revolutionary and I never need to see the phrase ‘season to perfection’ ever again but some intriguing recipes and some bliss balls without dates, hurrah
The recipes just didn’t click with me. Most did not excite me and the few I tried underdelivered quite a lot. In my opinion, there are much better vegan books out there.
Great cookbook though sometimes confusing considering I am in US and they use measurements from their part of the world. Overall though very enjoyable cookbook and I would recommend it.
Good, solid assortment of vegan tips and recipes!! I already love BOSH, so it was amazing to see a book a little more focused on the healthy aspects of vegan deliciousness!!
