An Unforgettable Love

Rate this book
Richard “Hopper” Thompson is bored. He has plenty to do, being the head ranger of the Tahoe National Forest, but living alone in a cabin in the middle of the woods isn’t exactly the most riveting life.

He’s known excitement, too. For many years he served as a sniper in the marine corps, but a devastating shoulder injury has reduced him to civilian duties. These days, a walker’s twisted ankle or a trapped raccoon is about as exciting as it gets.

Nothing can prepare him, though, for the day he comes across a man lying in the middle of a lonely forest road. The man is alive, but he’d certainly been left for dead. When he wakes up in the hospital, it becomes obvious that he’s suffering from amnesia.

With nothing to identify him save for the huge angel tattoo that spreads across his shoulders, the hospital staff name him Gabriel, and tell Hopper that with nowhere else to send him, once he’s recovered from his injuries he’ll have to be sent out into the world.

Against his better judgement, but always a sucker for swarthy looks and piercing blue eyes, Hopper agrees to allow Gabriel to stay with him. Perhaps, together, they can work at finding out who this mystery man is, why he was left lying in the forest, and who could possibly have attacked him so badly.

What Hopper can never prepare himself for is how deeply he will fall for this handsome stranger, and how he will be able to let Gabriel go when the past, as it always does, comes to catch up.

A Forest Ranger and the botched execution !
Here we have a Marine, now Forest Ranger, “Hopper,” who has a loner life with his dog, Mila. He protects the forest from hikers, hunters and fires.
On a routine road trip, he finds a severely injured man in the rainy roadway, and gets help. The man has amnesia, broken bones, a bullet wound, plus bruises, and the nurses are naming him Gabriel, for the angel tattoo on his back.

The guys talk, Hopper visits, and then agrees to take him home to his secluded cabin, for recovery and protection. Gabriel’s memory is locked tight. The men live together, rescue a fawn, and handle Gabriel’s nightmares. We learn about Hopper’s job, and each man is drawn to the other. Their sexy times could start a fire.
When Gabriel goes back home, Hopper spirals down with loss and despair. The men had declared their love, and Hopper is devastated. The strong man is lost in hopelessness.
It’s similar to how I felt when my hubby died, so I could truly relate.

This tale has a twist, a surprise and an HEA, but the story to reach that is different and interesting. Enjoy !

Well, I made it to the 18% mark and that’s as far as I could push it. This book, was in one word - BORING. I was hoping that since the blurb reads like it would be good, that the book could deliver, but nah, didn’t happen.

18% and it’s allllllll about the dude whose name I can’t even remember. The guy he finds is maybe in 2 scenes at most so far. Sure, I get it, gotta build that plot right ? But honestly, do I really freaking care that he was the best at taking the hamster home when he was in elementary school ? Not even a little bit. Do I care that a doe saw him naked, and had a horrified expression on her face ? Yeah. You guessed it. Nope. Can I skip all the useless pages of pointless writing and get to the part where they actually interact with each other ? Sure, but this author’s style has already rubbed me the wrong way.

So thanks, but no thanks 🙄

This is jist not for me....
The only reason I kept going with this book was to see how "Gabriel" gets his memory back & find out who he is and I can't believe after going through all that I finally got my answers in a written report!!!!!
I didn't feel any kind of connection with the characters of this book because that's just what they were.....characters on a page.

Decent Storyline

Well, it was a good premise, which is what drew me to the book. The execution wasn’t interesting, however. There’s a lot of filler in this book. Very little dialogue. Lots of description of surroundings and technical makeup of the day in a life of a forest ranger. The two MCs just didn’t come to life nor did the connection feel real between them.

The story of Hopper and Gabriel caught me since the beginning and I couldn't stop until finished it. The book had not only a complex plot with all the twists, intrigue and danger that kept me at the edge of my seat all the time, but also, amazing characters so emotional and intense that you can feel in their interactions and dialogues, the deeply love they had for each other as much as all the sadness and despair. Wonderful, wonderful reading! Loved it!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

Enjoyable

The perfect fantasy to distract you from the craziness of our day to day existence. Jerry Cole has a way of building just enough sexual tension amid a good story to keep you coming back for more. On to the next story.

Amnesia and special romance

California author Jerry Cole is a gay author who has been writing fiction since he was a child. As a young adult, he worked as a freelance writer in the evenings and on weekends. In the summer of 2015 he published his first gay romance short story on Amazon. Overwhelmed by the positive response he decided to quit his “day job” and took up writing gay romance full time. Is publications are now in the range of 63! When he’s not writing steamy M/M romance he enjoys globetrotting (especially to Hawaii!), watching movies with family and friends, and working out,

One of the many reasons Jerry Cole is at the top of the list in MM romances is that in addition to writing very fine gay romances, he in addition addresses important social issues, relationship challenges, sexual identity ambiguity, and professions that rarely are included in books of the genre. This is one of the many reasons Jerry’s gift at composing romances works so well – he is very character driven: we know the men he magnetizes so that the erotica is more a bonus than a raison d’être.

The plot is well described – ‘Richard “Hopper” Thompson is bored. Against his better judgment, but always a sucker for swarthy looks and piercing blue eyes, Hopper agrees to allow Gabriel to stay with him. What Hopper can never prepare himself for is how deeply he will fall for this handsome stranger, and how he will be able to let Gabriel go when the past, as it always does, comes to catch up.’

Jerry’s choice of cover models is invariably strong – setting a fine mood for a solid book. This is a very strong sample of one of our finest gay romance writers of the day. It is another winner.

An Unforgettable Love is the the story of Gabriel, a man left for dead in an isolated part of a forest and Hopper, the forest ranger who finds him. I am a sucker for “whodunit” stories from time to time. Jerry Cole does a marvelous job with these types of books because they’re always leaving you wanting more and more. I am a pretty slow reader but I got to say, it was hard to put this one down. I wanted to keep reading in order to find out more about Gabriel, who suffers from amnesia, due to his brutalization. I needed to keep reading to find out what happened, who is he, “whodunit”, and how the growing relationship between Hopper and Gabriel will pan out once all of these questions are answered. I will admit that I cried due to reading the raw emotions of the characters, especially Hopper. The descriptions of their feelings, their thoughts, and even their physical appearances are so fine-tuned that they feel real. I felt their love and their pain in real time, but it’s really hard not to. Jerry did a magnificent job on these characters and made me fall in love with them both. I was taken to the beautiful surrounds of the forest where Hopper worked. I could see the landscape unfold before me with each page I turned.

Hopper and Gabriel’s love story is romantic and one that makes you feel the passion pouring from the pages. I loved reading the interaction between the two men.

The mystery of Gabriel’s amnesia is cleverly written and keeps you guessing to the end. The hazards of being a ranger in a large forest with the threat of fires and people getting lost adds to the story and shows life of a ranger is varied and hard. Hopper lives a life that is waiting for someone to help him find himself and maybe Gabriel is the one for him.

I highly recommend this book, I think Hopper and Gabriel are two wonderful characters that take you on an exciting journey through their story.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review
Being a forest ranger, Hopper had seen a lot of thing but driving up on a body in the middle of the road was new to him. After helping keep the man warm until the paramedics got there, he couldn't keep the mysterious man off his mind. Taking a chance by visiting the guy, Hopper learns his is newly name Gabriel for the amazing tattoo on his back. When he wake from his induced coma, Gabriel wants to meet the man that saved his life. Only nether truly new just how much each was going to save the other. With no memory, Gabriel has to decide when the past comes calling will he stay or go? Oh loved Hopper, the sweet and caring ex marine turn forest ranger. The emotional wreck that this book brings is moving. A defendant twist towards the end.

This was an excellent story about Hopper and Gabriel. Hopper is a forest ranger, but is bored with his job. Trying to leave to new adventures, his boss Ted talks him into staying. Driving back to his cabin one day he finds Gabriel in the road badly beaten and left for dead. Hopper is the only one who can take him in as he has amnesia and too injured to take care of himself. The two men become attached to each other and all is good until a mysterious women shows up and claims Gabriel is her husband. An intense story with lots of mystery and grief, it is a page turner for sure. Has a great Hea and is well worth reading. This author has done it again by giving us this entertaining story. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.

I found the book about Hopper, an ex Marine, who works as a forest ranger, and Gabriel very heart warming. Hopper found Gabriel at the brink of death on the road to his cabin badly beaten up as well as shot and brought him to hospital. As the story develops we find out, that Gabriel has amnesia. This created another problem when he had to be released from hospital, as he had nowhere to go. So, Hopper came to his rescue and took him home. Here they got to know each other and fell in love. To get to the HEA they had to go through danger, separation and grief. A truly remarkable story. This book does not let you go until it is read.

Absolutely brilliant book from JC

I received a free advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest & unbiased review. Hopper a ranger escaping into himself from a life he can no longer have in the marines and a sense of letting people down. he comes across a man abandoned for dead on the back roads of the forest he works and heh presto... it starts from there.

the author throws in a lot into this book, hot mm love, mysterious man with the angel, cops and FBI, tenderness (care for dog and wounded fawn). a slow unveiling of the full story and a great , lovely end.

read it, you wont regret it.

Unexpected Ending

The story is, like most from Jerry Cole, an OK read. The characters are interesting and there’s enough development to support the storyline. This one has a couple of plot twists which are unexpected, one potential plot element which never appears (based on the setting, I was expecting it) and the usual assortment of missing words and grammatical errors. It ends well, so that’s a plus.

Hopper is ready for another change in his life after serving in the Marines and as a forest ranger. He happens upon a dying man who is drawn to immediately. The nurses name him Gabriel. Their connection is strong and immediate, even though Gabriel has amnesia. An interesting read of their budding relationship and Gabriel's fight to regain his memory. This is the story of Hopper and Gabriel. I absolutely loved the book. The more books I read by this author the more I fall in love with the books. I loved the characters and the descriptions. The story pulled me in so much that when it ended I was kinda lost for a little bit. Wonderfully written.

I received this book as an Arc and I am reviewing it voluntarily.

Gabriel is treated like an object throughout the story. We never know him or spend time with him. When they had sex the first time I felt uncomfortable because I felt like he was taken advantage of because they didn’t know each other. Hopper felt selfish as well. Even when they learned Gabriel’s real name he didn’t want to use it. I just didn’t like it.

I finished it, barely. No intensity between the characters or the plot, but the writing itself is solid. It could use some help with pacing and plot. Not a complete waste of a few hours, but I’ll forget I’ve read it in a few weeks.

This book was really great. Both characters were really like able. I wish Gabriel has a little more of a backstory at the end or more an epilogue but the story was great overall.
