Albany Nightingale Duet #1

The Destruction of Rose

Rate this book
If I’d known then what I know now, I’d never have tried to reclaim my crown.

After fleeing London and the scandal that tore my family apart, I’m left broken, confused, and mourning a life I never realized was so fragile. I’m used to being on top. I’m used to being admired, and now I’m desperate for a way back in.

I think I’ve found it when I see Ashton Cole—my first crush, my first kiss—at my new school. But Ash isn’t who he used to be. He’s the king. And me… well, I’m not going down without a fight—even with the lies and secrets filling the school halls around us.

Please note this is a mature YA read and contains bullying/sex/bad language.

THE DESTRUCTION OF ROSE: is the first full length mature YA book in 'New to me author' Rachel M. Raithby's 'Albany Nightingale Duet' series.

WOW! This depicted young love perfectly and captured the entire range of angsty emotions that come with a YA/BULLY novel perfectly- it had everything a romance reader could ask for.

What a great start to a wonderful new series! All fans of bullying books will be jumping on this one! This author took ‘Revenge’ to a whole new level! And only one Queen is fit to wear the crown! I don’t know who I was scared of most, Rose herself, or Roses mother! Old hands at bringing people to their knees! Forces to be reckoned with!

FrightenedCarefreeGonolek-size_restricted.gif

Rose was the crown wearing queen B at her school, St Paul's Grammer in London until that is swiped out from under her feet and her and her mother leave behind a mess of criminal destruction. Even her best friend and boyfriend turn their backs on her in her time of need.

👑 “I'ᗰ ᗩ ᗷᖇOKEᑎ ᑫᑌEEᑎ, TᕼᖇOᗯᑎ OᑌT ᗷY ᕼEᖇ ᑕOᑌᖇT, ᗩᑎᗪ ᒪIKE ᗰY ᗰOTᕼEᖇ, I ᕼᗩᐯE ᑎO OᑭTIOᑎ ᗷᑌT TO ᖴᒪEE.” 👑

Leaving Rose floundering in its wake facing an unknown future in a country she hasn't set foot in since her younger years when she fell in love with the first boy who kissed her at the age of thirteen when her parents sailed away on a luxury holiday and Rose was sent packing to her Grandparents in New York, on the Upper east Side.

If life wasn't hard enough she's now having to start at the bottom again at a new school with a whole new crowd. But maybe it's not going to be so bad when she claps eyes on the boy who stole her heart many moons ago, Ashton Cole. BUT He's not the same boy he used to be. This Ashton doesn't want anything to do with her..

But that's not how this story goes..

Get ready for a crazy ride!! Because at this new school there is already a Queen with two soldiers (Ashton & his stepbrother Grayson) flanking her side.

👑 “TᕼIᔕ ᗩᔕᕼ Iᔕ ᗩᔕ GOᖇGEOᑌᔕ ᗩᔕ ᕼE Iᔕ ᑕᖇᑌEᒪ. ᕼE'ᔕ KIᑎG, ᗩᑎᗪ TᕼE KIᑎG ᗪOEᔕᑎ'T ᑎEEᗪ ᕼIᔕ ᑭᗩᔕT ᖇEᗰIᑎᗪIᑎG ᕼIᗰ ᗩᑎᗪ EᐯEᖇYOᑎE ᗩᖇOᑌᑎᗪ ᕼIᗰ ᗯᕼEᖇE ᕼE ᑕᗩᗰE ᖴᖇOᗰ.” 👑

Title: The Destruction of Rose
Series: Duology /Duet 1
Author: Rachel M. Raithby
Characters: Rose Keeley , Ashton Cole , Grayson, Cole Sophia Kincaid , Violet Keeley

Maria×

Miss Raithby is a new author for me, therefore this is my first read book of her.

I really like this, the plot and writing style. As much as I love to hate Rose's character I simply can't. There's something about her that I'm drawn to. Even she's the representation of an elite + queen bee.

"I’m plastic. I’m a broken girl, playing at queendom."

To be honest I thought this gonna be an another bully highschool Romance, but once you meet Ashton, man he's sweet and truly dear Rose, but givin the circumstances he's hands are strongly tied.

"When Ash returns to his golden throne, and I return to my crumbling castle. This time is ours and while it lasts, I’m determined to hold onto my happiness even as the first fine cracks begin to splinter across my heart."

"Ashton Cole is the king and wearing the crown takes sacrifice, and he sacrificed my Ash a long time ago."

I have to say, that Rose embodies a strong female character how she stands up for herself despite of her insecurities and doubts, she's not showing any weakness.

"They wanted to break me, and they did. And now they’ll have to deal with the twisted, broken monster they’ve left in my wake of their destruction."

Rose and Ashton's story will conclude in The Resurrection of Us (Duet 2).💕

This book was nothing like I expected. It was 10 million times better! Its bloody brilliant! I absolutely loved this book! This book is vicious and you love every second of everything that happens.

If you are looking for a high school bully romance, this is your book. It has everything plus some. Rose and Ash are so amazing together. Both of them put revenge and status in front of them being together and it pulls them so far apart only to make them enemies. I cannot wait to see what the next book has in store! If you have not read this book yet, I highly recommend you go grab your copy now!

Woah, Mumma! What an ending!
This book was full of tension, I was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Ash and Rose... the start of their relationship was so sweet, so hopeful.
Unfortunately, the world rarely cares; and life has a way of changing you, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
All the changes in their lives brought them to where they are now - and while some of those changes were unavoidable - the decisions they made ultimately led to their destruction.
I can NOT (I can't stress this enough) wait for the conclusion of their story!

The Destruction of Rose was absolutely one of the best starts to a new series I have read in such a long time! It captures what teenagers are dealing with in this day and age to another level. Do you remember high school? Bullying, popularity contests, lying to reach the top.... Well Rose’s experience are on a whole other level. Do your self a favor and pick up Book 1, you will not be disappointed!

The Destruction of Rose by Rachel M. Raithby kept me holding my breath and on the edge of my seat nearly the entire time. Rose and her mother flee from England after her father is arrested for stealing money. Rose used to be the queen, the ruler of her high school, but now she is disgraced. The two women go to New York, where her grandparents live, and where she spent the summer when she was 13. On her first day of school at Albany Nightingale, she sees Ash, her childhood love from that summer she visited. However, Ash is the king of this high school, and already has a queen. He pretends she is a stranger when she first speaks to him. Rose begins a fight to win the crown, and enact revenge on Sophia, the current queen and Ash's girlfriend, and Grayson, Ash's second in command and stepbrother. I was rooting for Rose to rise up above all the politics of the social games the elite play. She struggles to find herself, dealing with parents who have been lying to her and the cruel students at her school. I thought it was a pretty accurate depiction of her turmoil and how she dealt with everything that was thrown at her. I loved the chemistry and the scenes between Ash and Rose, but I didn't like that he was actively cheating on Sophia. I felt like he could've been so much better. Grayson was a confusing character at the end, and I'm definitely suspicious of him. I loved Rose's mom, even though she has plenty of flaws. All of the characters are flawed and real, which shows how dark the upper-class can be. This is labeled as a bully romance, but it definitely feels like an enemies romance as well. The book ends on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait for the second book. 3.75 stars

Being at the top of the elite at school is the ultimate or is it?

Rose has her life literally turned upside down and I have to say I was amazed by her inner strength and determination. I admired her will to battle on, I’m sure I would have turned tail and run. Ash is a more complex character on the one hand yet not on the other. I won’t say too much for fear of giving things away. Now Grayson is an intriguing character and one I was wary of from the time of his introduction yet he too shouldn’t be judged too quickly. The descriptions of all of the characters are clear and detailed, making it very easy to visualise them and get to know them.

This story broke my heart at times- literally! Tears formed in my eyes and my throat started to close up with emotion. There is only so much one person should have to go through! At other times I was left chuckling and cheering. Occasionally I was spitting mad too. Summed up, it means this author has an amazing talent for not only evoking the feelings the characters incur but also to be a participant in the story, not just an observer.

This is a fast paced story and extremely easy to read due to its solid storyline, it has plenty of drama as well as a touch of romance thrown in. I loved everything about it and can not wait for the second book.

The Destruction of Rose may be YA, but it had some NA aspects to it, though it takes place in High School, and frankly, I was completely shocked by how good it was. It's a High School bullying romance surrounding Ash & Rose, two teenagers who should have been together, as their relationship started out so sweetly pure, but somehow didn't end up that way, so now they're next level enemies. Some of the stuff which went on seriously pissed me off a great deal, but that's not a shock, because while I read a lot of bully romance these days, my rage becomes insane as I experience it with the heroine. Rose & Ash needed to stop putting revenge and the status quo ahead of their happiness, but since they didn't, it's taken it's toll on them. At least Rose isn't some easy prey, as she does give it back which always makes me happy. This is the first book in the Albany Nightingale Duet, and getting the conclusion will seem like a FOREVER WAIT because I NEED IT NOW! Anyway, hit that one click button to start in on this journey, as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I got this book as a gift. I have never felt so many gut wrenching emotions in one book! Poor Rose is manipulated by her mother to be a stuck up snob, who is the most popular in the school. Rose is a girl who would do ANYTHING to get to the top. Including losing who she is & giving in to the darkness. Her father is manipulating her by giving her gifts or affection to make her not notice what he really is doing. She is forced to move to New York (she lived in London). Now she has to start all over at school. The climb starts all over again, to be the most popular. What's worse, the guy she met when she was 13 is at the school. She has measured every guy by him for years! He is her first love. And he is the most popular guy at her new school. Will she risk everything including him, for popularity.

Such a great book to read. This book portrays so many emotions through out the book. Rose who lives in London is the Queen B at her school. Then one day everything changes and her mom is telling her to get some stuff because they are leaving. In the midst of all this she sees the most devastating scene ever. How will she move on? Will her friends be there for her? Well she finds out more bad information from her so called friends. Well now Rose and her mom are heading back to the states. Here she runs into the one guy she fell in love with one summer. Only now he is a King at Albany and she is now a fish. The chemistry with these two is there but the emotions are not strong enough for wither of them. What will happen? Can she rise to become a Queen once again or will she stay down? Like I said, this is a great book with a roller coaster of emotions.

This is my first book by this author and it won't be my last. This is the first book in the new 'Albany Nightingale Duet'. I never wanted to put this book down. This book was an emotional roller coaster.

Fair warning this does end it quite a cliffhanger. This story is a rollercoaster of emotions. This is a story of Rose who was the queen of her school in London and when her father is arrested for money laundering we see how fast she has fallen. Taken to New York by her mother to start over she starts a new school and has to come up with a plan to take down their queen and reclaim the crown, only to learn the boy she had a crush on since she was 13 is the king of the school and dismisses her. We read as Rose rises and falls, admits defeat and then is taken to the brink that when all secrets are revealed there is no going back. An interesting and entertaining story. Can't wait to read the conclusion.

Wow. What an emotional roller coaster ride that was!
Rose is the queen bee at her school until one day, she isn’t. In an instant, her whole world is turned upside down and she must find her place in another country and a new school.
A blast from her past rocks her world, and she has to decide what to do next - fight her way to the top, or settle for second best.

This is a story filled with angst and drama. We get to watch as Rose loses the girl she once was and becomes bitter and twisted. We get to revel in her joy and love but also watch her heart break.
Brilliantly told story that will leave you wanting more.

Awesome - Rachels First foray into Contemporary has me imatiently waiting for more

This book grabs you and pulls you in. As you read about Rose's life and the changes and challenges she has to face, being the new girl in the elite school is not for the faint-hearted, just when Rose thought she'd be okay, life turns on her again. This book has twists and turns that keep you turning the page to find what happens next.

If you love books where love is complicated, status is coveted and revenge is best served cold, then get this book. I loved it. Rose has lots of decisions to face, will they be the right ones... Well maybe not, but they'll certainly make an impact.

An intense bullying story that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Rose's life was changed when her fathers misdeeds are out in the open. Her fall from grace and the crown she metaphorically wore in her London school is gone. In NYC she try's to get the crown there but Ash the boy she loved is there and hes the King with his own Queen. This story has very steep betrayal and angst. Rose breaks and revenge is bitter.

Rachel has smashed this one outta the park! Personally I love a high school/college bully romance - this one was a phenomenal example of one done well.
I really enjoyed the characters, and they are all so vile and mean but also so very damaged - I liked that there was so innocent parties in this book - it was a free for all.
Thanks for another fantastic book Rachel - and you did so damn well stepping away from your usual genres. Bring on the second half of the duology.

Amazing!

I really enjoyed this book! New genre of writing for this author but I’ve loved her previous books and this one did not disappoint!! Heavy lies the head that wears the crown... and is the crown worth losing your soul along the way? Have Ash and Rose broken their connection past the point of reconciliation? I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Terrific Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Intense!

The Destruction of Rose
Albany Nightingale Duet, Book 1
By: Rachel M. Raithby
Narrated by: Naomi Rose-Mock

Rachel M. Raithby takes you on a wild and twisted ride in this YA bully romance novel, it is best to hold on tight because once you start the book you will not want to put it down. As much as I despise bullies, I have come to appreciate bully romance novels, it is great to root for the underdog in these books and watch them persevere. I enjoyed the author’s writing style and the originality of this story, it drew me in right from the start and captivated my attention straight to the end. Rose Keeley’s world crumbled into pieces, one day, she was the queen ruling her school and the next day they shunned her. Her mother pulled her out of school and had her pack a couple of bags before taking her back to NY, a place she only visited. Falling out of the social graces in London will not stop her mother, Violet Devenport, from rising again, and Rose will follow her lead. Starting a new school midyear will not be easy but she is determined to be part of the in crowd and she thought she had an in after seeing the boy she met while visiting, the boy who was her first kiss and the one she never forgot, Ashton Cole. Ashton is not the same boy she remembered him to be, he treats her rudely and acts like he does not know her. To make matters worse, he has an evil stepbrother, Grayson Bishop, who has it in for her, Ash’s girlfriend, Sophia, is no better either. They make her life a living hell and she barely gets thru it all, her mother pushes her to not give up but they keep coming for her and getting the best of her. When Ashton does the unthinkable, she thinks that is it, but then she falls upon info that will take the three down. But will that info help her rise again, does she want to rise again, was it all worth it? There is never a dull moment in this cleverly plotted, action packed bully romance novel. There is plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, thrilling and suspenseful moments and emotions ones too. Rachel M. Raithby, thank you for this great story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I am looking forward to what comes next for these characters.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Naomi Rose-Mock is a talented narrator and a versatile voice artist. She covered the roles for all the characters and was great in both the male and female roles, gave each their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow along and tell who was who. She had a complete understanding of the characters she portrayed, grasped each character’s persona perfectly, sounding believable and just as I pictured the character to sound. She set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this terrific listen.

This book was so much more than the highschool romance I went in to it expecting. It's a fantastic read about all the stuff teenagers have to deal with, including bullying, peer pressure, etc. The characters are believable, even if they're the kind of people I would want as neither friend nor enemy, and the plot is gripping and full of emotion and drama. I can't wait to read the sequel!

This was my first Rachel M. Raithby's book, and won't be my last. This is the first book in the Albany Nightingale series, a Bully Romance. Ashton (Ash) and Rose's story is intense, full of angst, family drama, mystery, and twists and turns. They are fantastic characters. The plot is grippingly captivating. The story ends with a cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to listening to The Resurrection of Us, the next book in the series. Naomi Rose-Mock did an excellent job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice. #SpectrumAudiobooks

She was the queen of St. Paul's Grammer but her crown fell off the minute everything came to light.

Her life and social status ruined beyond repair.

A new home, a new country a time to reign supreme once again.. or is it..

Albany Nightingales private school is her new fresh start.

But her past is coming back.. whether she likes it or not..

This was a slow burner for me. I found the beginning half of the book (minus the excitement at the beginning) just average.

I wasnt hyped up, I didnt fall in love with the characters and the bullying wasnt anything I hadn't seen before.

I could see this book easily being swallowed up in this genre as there was nothing outstanding in it.

The second half of the book when the game was played, and the positions changed brought back my waning interest.

As the crescendo neared I liked the new dynamics and possibilities, but I feel like I'm sat on the fence about most of the book.

I didn't dislike it, but I also didn't love it at the same time.

She was worthy of more, they were worthy of more. Maybe the second book will give me that...

'Anger drains from me as every cell touching him flares to life. He’s so much taller and wider than when we were kids, he’s all hard muscle and chiseled lines. His head dips, his lips lingering over the sensitive skin on the curve of my neck. I’m breathing heavy, melting into him as the reasons I was so angry fade away.
The past and the present collide inside of me; I hear the sweet laughter of the young boy he once was. See the young love in his cinnamon dusted eyes and then I feel the hard wall of his grownup body. Sense the electricity flowing through my veins as his breath brushes my skin.
“Rose,” he whispers roughly. '
