Jem Hayes has a penchant for lacy underwear and makeup. Nate Allinson likes pretty men and spanking, preferably at the same time.
He doesn’t want a man for more than a scene. He doesn’t want a warm body for more than one night. He doesn’t want “more.”
Until Jem.
With his slim body and beautiful face, Jem pushes every one of Nate’s buttons. After one night of passion and an empty bed in the morning, Nate knows Jem is the one. Running out was the dumbest thing Jem could have done. He felt the connection but bolted all the same.
Fate brings them back together, but their relationship is put to the test when Jem’s ex returns. Can Nate’s love heal Jem from his abusive past?
Your Kind Of Man is an MM romance and book two in the HeavyLoad! Series. It contains lots of lacy panties, numerous spankings, and plenty of sexy shenanigans.
The book can be read as a standalone but will be enhanced by reading book #1 My Kind of Man.
Warning: This book contains a small amount of violence.
Hiding behind a quiet unassuming facade J J reads and writes hot sexy stories. Stories of men loving men as well as women loving men. What would the neighbors think!!
As long as the men are hot alpha's and the women are strong in their own right then they have a place in J J's books.
JJ also has a kinkier side and writes under the name of AG Silver. So, make sure you look out for those books too.
This was the second book in the series following Jem and Nate's love story. It can be read as a standalone but since the characters from the first book intermingle heavily, it's best to read the first book as well. Told from dual POV, this book features growly Daddy Dom, who is ready to take care of his boy, and a naughty boy with penchant for lace, make up and high heels.
Jeremy aka Jem is a partner at wildly successful sports company he opened in college with his three friends. Despite all the wealth, he feels like no one will ever understand him and love him as he is. It's no wonder since his last relationship ended with a disaster and a restraining order. So he plays in various clubs but never wants more - it's safer that way. But one night he meets a man that just might sway him to have more than one night. At first Jem behaves like a brat but in the course of the book I saw a lonely young man whose self-confidence was shattered. He needed to believe in his own judgement that he chose well this time around.
Nate is a successful lawyer who plays hard and never wants to take a boy home. But a chance meeting with alluring Jem makes him want to keep him. When two men get together, they start an exploration journey. I liked how they both communicated with each other when things didn't go right. They had loyal friends who helped them see things in different light and talk it out when necessary.
This was a very steamy book. It mentioned homophobia, off page noncon and dealing with the consequences afterwards. It was written well but it felt like at times it had more focus on physical connection and kink than finding other things in common between two men. Every moment that they spent together they were intimate. I just wanted more time with them doing casual things like watching movies or talking about their likes and dislikes. It was mildly angsty and a bit suspenseful in the end. But all in all, I enjoyed it. The book ends on a juicy tidbit that makes me want to read the next in the series right now! I recommend it. Copy received for my honest and unbiased review
Nate is mesmerized by the beauty of the guy in a tunic and lacy panties, who approach him at the club. They have the most delicious evening only after Nate wakes up Jeremy is gone, he’s disappointed and confused, he doesn’t do ‘more’, but it’s the only thing he can think of after a night with Jem
It takes a while before they meet again. Nate understands it’s now or never.
Nate is exactly the man Jeremy is looking for, older, in control, a Dom, a Daddy.
Jeremy wants to be Nate’s boy only he has to learn how. To give everything out of hands isn’t easy. He’s also afraid to make the same mistake as with his ex who demanded and abused him.
Nate wants to be the Daddy/Dom of the most gorgeous, delicate boy. He adores Jeremy and can’t believe his luck. Jeremy feels the same even though he had some bad experiences in the past.
To follow them, where they make mistakes and have to learn what the other want, was awesome. Nothing perfect, here is also where we meet Callum and Mikey from book #1 who have already been through the learning process, they are of great help.
There is a good portion of hurt/comfort. Also even a small amount of violence (not by Daddy)
The whole story is deliciously sexy, they have a vividly sexual relationship, all scorching and nothing repetitive to find!
I loved Nate as Daddy/Dom, I loved his Dom side even a bit more. His love for Jeremy was touching. Jeremy is the most exquisite boy, shy, submissive, and at times insecure.
An entertaining narrative, with Daddy/Dom, age-gap, lace, lingerie, heels, makeup, there was an amount of sweetness and love which I appreciated greatly. I loved the entertaining way of writing, it has a strong story-line, all beautifully merged.
Your Your Kind Of Man by J.J. Harper is without a doubt a hot AF , gloriously descriptive , MM Romance story.
It's also an Age gap, Daddy Dom with Satin and Lace Lingerie kink . The heroes are likeable and their chemistry in bed, in the shower, against the wall, on the floor and many , many other surfaces are explosive and tingle inducing.
There is no cheating , heroes get their sweet HEA and story can be read as standalone.
Many of supporting cast characters were introduced in and it was great reading about what was going on in their lives.
In other words, Your Kind Of Man is an easy, low angst , sweet book. So, why 3.5 stars instead of 5 ?
Because it's a bit all over the place. The pacing is erratic and choppy. And even though, I like and believe in Insta attraction and lust ; I'm a bit more hesitant to believe in Insta love after a week or so .
I understand and agree that the Daddy/boy dynamics between Jem and Nate can accelerate the relationship development and feelings BUT I didn't see a real connection , intimacy and trust with them until much later . I saw it after the conflict with the ex boyfriend and that's at 80% or so; before nada.
Anywho, I liked reading this entertaining and smutty love story .
Jem and Nate meet at the club and it seems like they are a perfect match. When Jem leaves in the night, Nate can't understand what happened, but decides that he's going to get him. A few weeks later, they meet again at a different club and things get heavy between them.
Jem's got some baggage from a past relationship that he needs to fess up to before he can commit to anything with Nate. There are quite a few misunderstandings and hurdles to jump along the way, but things eventually even out and they end on an HEA.
I really enjoyed the way they eventually got together, both with a different, distinct kink that ended up being their full time partnership. I also really enjoyed the continuation of Mikey and Callum's story within this one.
I am even more excited now for book 3, given the extremely small glimpse into the characters!
A romance between “Angel” Jem & “Daddy” Nate. This was an okay read. No surprise, the usual tropes, and a lot of sexy times. Sometimes, I think authors use sexy times as a filler, to stretch the story. I also thought Nate’s character was a bit two-dimensional. Overall, interesting enough read!
Daddy Nathaniel and I weren't meshing initially. I felt like he went past exerting dominance and control to unreasonable. Sometimes because he didn't know Jem's history, and sometimes because after their initial night, their discussion of rules felt too one sided. They both failed to properly communicate.
It took a traumatic event for Nate to finally ease up. The rest of the book went smoother.
Jem is endearing, he's a wealthy businessman who likes to take a break in lace and heels. He wants someone to take care of him, but after an abusive ex, he has trust issues. Unfortunately, despite being a lawyer, Nate has a gift putting his foot in it.
It's a big courage to approach a "controversial" kink and make it into a book. It's a great skill to write a book so interesting, so hot and at the same time so respectful! JJ Harper did an awesome job approaching the topic of men in lingerie and daddy doms, shaping a story of two fascinating men. Their story is not always pretty, easy and full of roses and unicorns. But their story is very realistic and described with uncanny attention to the kink depiction. No exaggeration or cheap scandal seeking. Loved it :)
I'm concerned this book doesn't have any trigger warnings. It contains domestic violence and off page sexual assault.
Overall the writing and editing are poor. The pacing is terrible. I'd forgotten I had similar issues with book 1 which is why I didn't immediately read book 2. This is what happens when I don't write things.
I enjoyed the 1st book so much and this one not so much. I loved Jem but I am not a fan of Nate. I found him lacking as an experienced Dom/ Daddy. I loved the interactions with Mikey and Cal and I am looking forward to the next book.
Loved this second book in the Heavyload series much more than the first one . Beautifully written and loved the lingerie and kink with Jem & Nate . I'm really getting into this series and now I'm after the next Heavyload one ...
Your Kind of Man is the second book in the Heavyload! series by JJ Harper. Book one, My Kind of Man, started the fun off with a hot age play read. This time we get a Daddy relationship that's not your typical Daddy read.
The series can be read as standalones, but the characters are all friends and appear in each others books, so just read them all and enjoy!
Jem and Nate's story is hot from the start. These two definitely have some amazing chemistry. But their relationship isn't all easy going.
Everything starts with a scene between them, and continues when they run into one another again. They naturally work scenes together well, and both find it all extremely hot.
Neither man is looking for a relationship, but everything just sort of leads them in that direction.
Jem is a pretty boy who loves lace, some makeup, fancy clothes, and heels. He's also a boy who's last relationship was abusive and has left him insecure about himself. He needs a Daddy in real life, and Nate is willing to try. But he struggles between being a Daddy versus a Dom. The angst that this brings about is natural and well explored, including the way Jem's past affects him with Nate.
I am impressed with the way the Daddy versus Dom is developed. It's not something I have read much of, and I found it interesting, as well as compelling. The result of their journey is some major character growth.
Jem and Nate are intense with their love. Their need, want, and connection jumps off the pages.
This tale has a major off page trigger, so avoid if rape is a hard no for you.
Your Kind of Man is a beautiful tale of learning to balance your boy's needs. JJ Harper perfectly explores the fine line between being a boy's Dom versus being his Daddy. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a unique Daddy romance.
This is the second book in the Heavyload! series and this one is about Jem and Nate. Jeremy (Jem) is one of Mikeys (Michael) best friends and also one of his business partners in the hugely successful sports clothing business that is Heavyload!. Jem has a very troubled past which includes a restraining order against his past partner and also a secret... he likes to wear sexy underwear. Nate is a successful lawyer and also best friends with Mikeys partner Callum. Neither men know about their friends connections and when they meet at a club as strangers and spend the night together, their chemistry is evident. Jem sneaks out during the night and Nate thinks he will never see the beautiful man again. However, fate has other ideas and they meet at a club a few weeks later and this time decide to see where things may lead. Neither man was looking for something permanent, but after many misunderstandings and wrong conclusions, things seem like they are going to work out though when Jems past comes back to find him, it looks like it could sadly be the end. I really loved this book and the characters and it was wonderful to see the characters from the previous book take their part in the story to. Now I'm looking forward to book three! I would definitely recommend the series especially if you like something a little bit different.
What an EXCELLENT story featuring the cranky, snarky, hard working Jeremy. Jem is the EXCITING satin, sultry boy that Master Nathaniel will not be able to forget. The beautiful Jem, with his dark mysterious swagger of pure temptation and sweet, sounds that Nate has longed for and craved has disappeared. Afraid of the emotions, Jem leaves in the middle of the night. The friendship between Callum and Mikey, bring these two perfect for each other men together. This is a beautiful story, where being different and wanting so much more is a drive that deep inside is searching for acceptance. These men are the missing piece to the others puzzle. Together they are part of a lifestyle that most people don't understand but love is love. This love is unconditional and true. It's not for all to understand. I love these characters. I'm hoping there is another book in the works. I want to know what Logan and Corey are up to. I'm sooo looking forward to the next book, Our Kind Of Man. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!
(Trigger warning of reference to past abuse and a current rape.) It is still such an amazing book. The romance between Nate and Jeremy is outstanding. I love the kink explored at the end that is nearly not use enough in my opinion. The overlapping of characters both Mcs and secondary make the flow seamless and it make me happy to watch the interaction between all the characters.
Definitely more drama than the first instalment because of Jem's abusive ex-partner. Again I had problems with the instalove/lust, it wasn't depicted in a way that made me feel the connection. The writing style or the characters, I don't know what specifically, but it just didn't click with me. I did like it, I was just hoping for more.
Excellent story, with a little faster pace than the first HeavyLoad! book. I liked how Jem and Nate listened to Callum and Mikey about communicating and learned from the mistakes their friends made. And now that she's working on this series again, I can't wait to read Our Kind of Man!
Heavy heat, loads of love and a mysterious ending.
3.75 stars....almost 4!
A very genuine story concerning a Dom turned Daddy and a younger man with abuse in his past that gradually learn how to forge a strong love between them.
Nate, (Daddy) and Jeremy (Jem, the insecure 'boy') meet in a club and instantly connect. But Jem's past stops him from seeing Nate again for weeks, afraid of being hurt again.
Later, while Nate is putting on a Dom/sub demonstration, he spots Jem in the club. When Jem is selected to be Nate's final sub for his last demonstration of the night, the chemistry between them becomes undeniable.
After several heartfelt apologies, Nate agrees to be Jem's Dom/Daddy and Jem allows him to take care of him.
But their growing happiness is stunted by a shocking event from Jem's past that appears one day as Jem is in his now trashed, but luckily vacant old apartment. I will not describe this event, as it's outcome is one of the major sub-plots. I will say it is an important factor in eventually bringing the two protagonists closer than ever.
What follows is a story of the power of true love to change Nate and Jem to totally shed their doubts and insecurities, placing them on the road to true happiness.
Several characters, all contributing to the plot and sub-plots, add much needed support and humor to the book. (Particularly Mickey from book 1). The story has several more events that add spice, plenty of heat and a (in this reader's opinion) HFN ending.
I would have desired to rate this tale 4 stars, but two major items prevented me from doing so. Editing errors (my most egregious flaw in ANY book) and the use of repetitive phrases for the both the dialogue and love scenes. I, for one, can only tolerate so many descriptions of assorted silk undergarments, sex acts and pet names for the main characters. Overused terms and descriptions became annoying after the first few chapters.
Taking all of the above into consideration, I did find to overall plot interesting, somewhat mysterious and a learning experience in the emotional needs desired in a Daddy/boy relationship. I would recommend this book for those who like an abundance of heat, some violence and the growth of a loving relationship.
I'm reviewing the audio edition. This is the first story I’ve listened to/read by this author. I love finding new author’s. This story is very emotional. Jem is looking for someone to actually love him. It doesn’t happen from his parents or other relationships until he meets Nate. Nate isn’t much better. He wants a relationship but has not found the one who fits the bill for him. Jem’s insecurities enter into a lot of what happens. Jem’s past also plays a big part of the story. The characters bff’s play big parts in this story also. I love the characters. I did have a little problem with the narration by Max Palmer. I felt the narrator was more just reading the book. He has a pleasant voice and maybe just needs more experience. I received a free copy and this is my honest review.
I never read book one but it didn’t impinge on this story for me at all. As I have said before I don’t like Daddy/Little situations but I’m fairly OK with Daddy/Boy stories, this was the latter but two very important secondary characters were in a Daddy/Little relationship and I didn’t enjoy those bits at all. But, on the whole, it was a good story, Jem (Angel) and Nate (Daddy) were interesting mc’s who were very likeable. Jems past had been very tough but he overcame it and built a very successful business, then met the man of his dreams, then his past came back and blew his happiness to pieces. This was very low angst, no cheating, a nice read with a hea. There also was a whole lot of sexy sex, kinky sexy sex, squirmy sexy sex.
I’m reading this series again and falling in love with this story arc and these guys. I love the diversity of the books and the compassion with which characters and situations are written. If you like mm modern romance books then I can’t recommend this series highly enough.
What a fun, sexy series! Although you can read each book as a stand-alone, they complement each other well and the MC's show up throughout so it's nice to see them again, although they are minor characters in each other's books.
All the MC's are sexy and have unique stories and kinks. Very entertaining and I really look forward to reading more from this new-to-me author!
Great characters with an enjoyable dynamic, especially considering the initial push-and-pull Nate and Jem have with their attraction.
The subject matter here gets surprisingly dark for what I expected from the book. I think the author could have pushed a bit more at the emotional fallout from that, but Harper manages a relatively medium-angst book despite the events of the dramatic finale.
I was wrecked with this one. My heart hurt for Jen so much. I cried so hard. Thankfully JJ Harper is very good at putting us back together by the end. I do have to say I hope we hear something about what had caused the pain. Hopefully something truly horrific in return. Yeah still holding that anger. Lots of emotions in this one.
It wasn’t mentioned that Rape was a part of the book. Therefore, when it came to that part, I lost it. Not something I want to read. All that was listed was some domestic violence. The Trigger warnings need to be accurate.

Nate and Jeremy hit it off but Jeremy is afraid and has good reason to be cautious. Meeting up again gets them on the right track. But there are missteps and misunderstandings to work through. One big crisis and they finally seem to be on the way.
And this was one of the good ones. Love when man is comfortable dressing in women's clothes. We have been wearing mens longer . A feminine looks is here with the clothes. A bit of hurt just makes them stronger
Not going to rate. DNF at 30%. Might come back to it some other time but don't have the patience right now. Didn't think a book about a Daddy and femme would be so boring. I read book 3 first and loved it.
