Daniella Marquardt has one stop to make before she can flee the state with her newborn niece—a baby with a price tag on her life and no one to protect her. Along with money and hope, time is something Daniella doesn’t have a lot of. Still, she needs to find the last man to see her sister alive. To thank him.
Trent Kane doesn’t know what to make of the woman standing in his office preparing to go face certain death armed only with a plan that has no chance in hell of working. When he learns her connection to the infant he recently saved, the solution is simple; she’s getting his help, whether she wants it or not.
As far as Daniella’s concerned, trusting this bossy, hardened, brutally protective stranger is never going to happen. He may be the big, bad Chief Operating Officer of a private military firm with unlimited resources, but he’s also the coldest—albeit, intensely compelling—man she’s ever met.
The way Trent sees it, this woman effectively turning his life upside down is a risk to herself, and him as well. Despite everything, she still believes in love, which tells him she has no place in his world. Precisely why he needs to ignore their dangerous chemistry and quit being so damn attracted to her.
But, as hell begins to rain down all around them, one thing becomes evident very quickly.
They’re both going to fail at their well-laid plans.
Previously published as Kane, revised throughout with newly added content, and a different extended ending.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Christa Wick has been hybrid publishing since 2012 (yep, she's one of the O.G. indie authors). She's written 50+ romances starring curvalicious heroines and alphalicious heroes whose stories span the spectrum of: steamy & sweet, steamy & emotional, steamy & suspenseful, steamy & paranormal, steamy & dark, and...well, you get the idea. Her darker, dirtier books are under C.M. Wick, and she also writes general fiction sci-fi thrillers and suspense novels under other pen names.
Meh. I wonder what year this book was set in. If it's set in today's world, I can't imagine that anyone still scorns practitioners of BDSM. So, right then and there I call bullsh*t. I also call bullsh*t on the love that Kane and Dani had. No significant time was spent together. I really wish books would hold off on the love word for a little bit. Have the HEA be them together and working on it or something. I need at least a smidgen of reality to be maintained. I need 24/hr contact over say a 2 month period for me to believe the 'I love yous'. I would have believed this love they had if Dani hadn't left. One sexual encounter and baby feeding does not love make.
Kane was a man hiding from life Daniella was sucked into something that her dead step sister caused. Since the threat came all she wants to do is thank the man who saved the baby. But she found love and a family.
There's just not enough interaction between the two to make this believable. Also she's horrified by him being into bdsm. Get over it. Maybe she should have taken more offense to him sleeping with prostitutes then having unprotected sex with her.
This third book in the Savage Trust series is pretty good. The heroine seems a little uptight and the hero is kind of cold. However, everything works out well and I enjoyed reading this book.

America have no patriots. Only fully trained, fully armed terrorist groups!
Note : this trash of a book dont even deserves the one star!
" He was in Baghdad’s Green Zone, trapped in a piece of shit office building repurposed as temporary housing for Americans traveling on government business..." ( Translation : he was in a civillian building in Baghdad, occupied it as illegal millitary base)
" The Iraqi insurgents..." ( Be honest and call it The Iraq people resistance.)
" A woman’s scream pierced the dust-filled air." " Katherine's screams of terror turned to cries of agony from the weight of her husband and the concrete blocks pressing down on her stomach..." ( Imagine if "katherine" is Aisyah or Hamidah, you wont even give a damn if shes a preagnant and bombs rain on her. But because shes a katherine...she matters)
" Finishing up his second tour in Iraq, he had experienced combat situations..." ( Translation : he is a fully trained and fully armed terrorist gang member)
" Five and a half months pregnant, Katherine Henley was going into labor as the building crushed down on her and Reed. There was no doctor, not even a first aid kit. No assistance would arrive anytime soon. The shelling had to stop first.. All he could do to help was keep digging." ( Translation : what do you think happen to the Iraqis women and men when americans terrorist invade, attack, kidnapped, raped, tortured, slaughter them?)
These are just from the prologue. Fuck romantizing americans terrorist as the heroes. Fuck for calling these fully trained, fully armed terrorist deployed to another free nations to invade, stealing, raping, colonizing the once free nation and its people - as patriots! Fuck you for calling the Iraq people resistance as insurgent while the real insurgents, the real terrorist are americans army them self! And as if the world dont know what happened in Iraq, how bush lies destroys a beutiful country and its people, the author have the audacity to write this trash is disgusting when Iraq is still struggling until today!
I’m fairly sure I’ve read this author before and enjoyed her books so I’m going to go find one of those after writing this.
This book is just so…jumbled…. Spoiler alerts as this is the only way I can describe the strangeness that is this book….
The start is odd, with something happening in a far off land, then Danielle comes into it but it’s nothing to do with this and instead to do with something else that seems to have happened “off camera” and then suddenly she is living with him and despite him acting like a total ass, her being nothing like his type, him trawling *clubs* for women, suddenly they are sleeping together. I felt like there was a parallel book being written with all the answers and I needed to find it to deduce what the heck happened here.
The news article!?? Where did that come from! Her leaving?? Her trusting them in the first place? The ending?? One minute she hates him then without even a moments discussion about the main area of contention she is marrying him and they have another kid.
Despite all this I wanna desperately know what happened to Reed and see him get his hea.
I haven’t read the other 2 books in this series and given the blurbs I’m confused how they fit together (or if this is book 1 or 3…)
Perfection! I enjoyed everything thing about the book. It was intriguing from the first word until the last word. Don’t let the burb dis sway you from reading this book. It wasn’t a dark or disturbing book. At the heart of it was a love story. It was a wonderful ending to a fantastic series but I’m so hoping that it’s not the end. I need to have Reed, Collin, and Vivian’s story told with their own happily ever after. Christa is a magnificent storyteller and I love her books. If this is your first Christa Wick book I have no doubt that you will read more.
Danielle needs help to protect her newborn niece. Then she meet stoic Trent the man that helped deliver her niece. Once he finds out tha Danielle is on the run he offers to protect them.
Trent and Danielle experience an immediate attraction. He fights it, but gives in. Danielle is amazed at how she feels toward Trent.
I loved Trent and how he fought his feelings toward Danielle. He knows she's different. They run around trying to catch the bad guys.
The adventure starts immediately and keeps you hooked. I enjoyed this book.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I enjoyed reading Trent and Daniella's story. It was interesting, and exciting, and sexy. The steamy parts were incredible (Imagine 'incredible' with boldface, italics, and underlined, please. Thank you.) There was one point where I was shaking my head at Daniella, and wondering how she could be so gullible. But that's the way it is, isn't it, when an author writes a really good story and you forget that these characters are fictional?
Good suspense and a great grumpy, stoic, alpha hero!
I've never heard of a plus-sized woman referred to as fluffy. That was a new one on me. Daniella was a sweet but strong female lead that brought out the protective instincts in Trent. She was the light he needed to bring him out of his darkness. This author writes a little differently than I'm used to, so there's some jumping from scene to scene but you don't miss anything. The plot was intense, as was Trent. Very engaging. I will read more of this series.
Meh. Trent was such a jerk and I hated that we got so many reminders of how he constantly slept with many women. I’m so over the Hero always having multiple previous partners and the heroine being a virgin or having little or no experience 🙄 Daniela was weak, and made silly decisions. Also, them falling in love was rushed, and not believable, they barely spent time together and Trent was an ass to her most of the time. The final act with the kidnappers would’ve been interesting if there was better build up.
This book was amazing! I read it all in one sitting. I couldn't put it down!
This is an amazing romantic suspense that sucks you in and doesn't let you go until it's over.
Our Hero is a broody, very serious man who thought he'd never settle down. But the moment he lays his eyes on our heroine, it's over. He's head over heels for her.
The chemistry between these two is hot and sizzling! And the relationships they had with the side characters were perfectly written as well.
This was honestly the best-written novella I've read in a long time.
I recommend reading about Daniella and Trent! I will say that there were quite a few times in the beginning where I had to reread pages because it was very complicated and difficult. I also have some questions (like was Reed putting the moves on her) even after rereading it. But still it’s a page turner for sure. If you want a complicated but nonetheless interesting romance, this is your book.
This is a quick read if you're looking for something to do, but not one I would go out of my way to recommend. You'll need to suspend some disbelief (a woman becomes guardian of her prostitute sister's baby, then becomes the target of a hit put out by the baby's father? and the person who saved the baby just happens to offer private security?), but overall it's not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
The kind of hero I love !!!!! Strong, protective, a man of few words barking orders to cover his confusion from feeling things, unfamiliar and dangerous things. Desire, anxiety, fear, uncertainty, need, jealousy, love. And the sex scenes.... the author "forced" me to feel along with the couple their intense thoughts and feelings
The emotions battling their way across her face carved furrows of desire, anxiety, fear, uncertainty, need…
Was quite entertained and into the book until our leading lady is given the stupid girl identity and off she goes into danger. Book doesn’t tie up loose ends like is she forever on a hit list, what about the media story. Was an okay read but not enough to pull me to the next one.
A different spin on a love story brought about by crime and the death of her pregnant sister. The sister was brought into prostitution and drug abuse by her so-called boyfriend leaving Daniela to raise her half-sister's baby who was born by Trent. She came to thank him only to find out they were after the baby who Trent works on keeping them both safe.

Dani is in danger trying to protect her orphaned niece from the people who want to sell her. Trent will protect them but doesn't want to give into the attraction he feels. The story was good but the characters weren't well developed. At the end of it I felt like I didn't know them.
I thoroughly enjoyed Trent's story. The big bad man proves to have a soft side, brought out by a woman and a baby, but he didn't lose his edge. An exciting read. Don't miss the fantastic story of Collin Stark in 2 books - His Trust, and Her Heart.
First you know a man then a women and a child enter. The single male is overwhelmed at the chaos and soon loses all to love. At last well you have to read for yourself! 👍👍👍 wonderful read
Enjoyed this book, first time I've read any of this author's work but it certainly will not be my last. Great storytelling, lovely characters with enough mystique that draws you in. I recommend
This book is a good and solid book. The story is solid. At moments it can be a little predictable. That isn’t bad though. I’m glad that I took the time to read it.
Trent will win your heart. Dani didn't realize she was falling. Now she can't stop. They almost lose each other. Trent won't make the same mistake twice. He wants it all.
