At the dawn of the Age of Discovery, three portals break open to a mysterious alien world. Three nations take the first bold voyages through the portals, changing the course of history as we know it. On the other side, thousands of island chains hide ancient ruins, sophisticated artifacts and complex messages from a long-dead civilization, now reclaimed by the land, the sea, and the huge creatures that have come to dominate the ocean planet. This is a world that rewards the brave, the reckless, and the ambitious. Those who cross through the portals and stake their claims on this new world can reach out and claim wealth, fame, and power — if they don’t get killed... Welcome to the ARCHIPELAGO! A serial adventure launched on Kickstarter and published on Patreon, now appearing for the first time in a single volume, ARCHIPELAGO is a collaborative novel by Charlotte Ashley, Andrew Leon Hudson, and Kurt Hunt. Andrew Leon Hudson is a technical writer by day, and is technically a writer by night as well. An Englishman resident in Barcelona, Spain, his short fiction has been published in a variety of genre anthologies and zines, most recently in Triangulation: Dark Skies and Cossmass Infinities. He is co-author of the swashbuckling alt-hist novel Archipelago, and co-editor of the SFFWorld.com anthology series. Anything else you've heard is speculation at best. Here there be monsters – and alien artifacts, fantastic ships, long-dead civilizations, stormy seas, secretive islands, and rollicking adventures galore. Part epic fantasy, part alternate history, the Archipelago both entertains and intrigues. I was lucky to get my hands on an ARC of this one in advance!
I was lucky enough to read this one early and provide a blurb: “These intertwined adventures turn and roll toward a horizon most of us have only seen in dreams… The writers have created a world that’s grounded in history, full of gripping action and most of all, a lot of fun. I found myself utterly captivated and never quite sure of what might happen next.”
This was definitely a fun read. And although it meandered and seemed to get a bit lost in the middle (which I think is just a byproduct of it's original serial nature) it did come out strong in the end
