Suitable for people struggling with finances, shopaholics or those who just want to understand more about managing finances. This is an easy-to-refer-to guideline on financial advice and wisdom. (Also for those who are prepared to be smacked by reality!)

Pros:
-Reader friendly and easy to understand
-Provides practical advice on how to manage finances, especially for those who are struggling with debt and finances.
-Financial advice covers a wide range of individuals from shopaholics, graduates who are struggling with student loans, income-earners to entrepreneurs.
-Raises awareness of how consumers are subconsciously persuaded into spending more, so that individuals know when to avoid spending traps.
-Encourages people to consider alternative and accessible ways of earning a side income.

Cons:
-A couple of minor typos
-A bit too much emphasis placed on how consumers fall into traps, making advice in the later chapters appear a bit repetitive and general. (More elaboration would have been helpful!)

Besides all that, it’s still a good general guide for finances, especially if you’re new and struggling.

A Refreshingly Different Spin on Financial Freedom

I have read a fair number of books on financial freedom, as it does seem to be a very popular topic these days. But this author takes a different approach to the subject. Instead of exploring ways that you can budget and invest so you can live the life you want, this author focuses on exposing the somewhat seedy underbelly of contemporary brand and social marketing. In her introduction, she confirms that she has been an impulsive shopper, so this is both one woman's thoughts on the evils of contemporary marketing as well as a well-designed book that rings true beyond her personal reality. It is clear that she hopes that when the reader understands how brands appeal to the customers to try to separate them from their money that they can make better choices for themselves and their pocketbook. Interestingly, as I write this review during the pandemic, this was something that I had questioned myself, as I am certainly reigning in my spending now that my income has been reduced during the pandemic. In fact, just today, as I have been doing all week, I am unsubscribing from newsletters where it appears that the company or author only seems to be about making money when so much else is going on in the world. The author offers much food for thought in an easy-to-understand style. She talks to you as if you're her best girlfriend, which I always like in books like these. If you are someone who is having or has had trouble controlling their spending and truly wants financial freedom, this book will give you the insight to break away from brands and businesses who are just interested in separating from your cash, even if they appear like they don’t.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

The ideas in this book are really good... but the book itself is in need of a qualified editor.
