In 373 BCE, two cities of the First Achaean League were swallowed by the sea. Historians are certain the disaster was caused by an earthquake and tsunami; however, written reports document columns of flames and mysterious noises on the night of Helike and Boura's downfall. Whatever the case may be, Ancient Greece was never the same.
The truth of this mystery can only be unveiled through the eyes of four common people – an artist with a knack for healing, a servant from Egypt with a growing interest in politics, a farmer with a troubled past, and a single mother of five with curious abilities. Their stories reveal a glimpse of the complex web that held together this historic alliance. From outlaw magicians, to romance, to political intrigue, and war, the whispered secrets of Achaea are finally ready to be told.
Theodore Jacob Vincent was born in Johnson City, New York, where he lived for six months (six months that he does not remember) before moving to St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up reading and playing a plethora of sports, hoping to become a professional at the latter. When that failed, he switched his focus to mathematics, which he still does.
T.J.'s first book, The First Wave: The Secrets of Achaea Book I, was published on March 22, 2020, the day before his 21st birthday. It is the first of many historical-fantasies and mystical thrillers.
T.J. enjoys hiking, running, gnocchi (both creation and consumption), and the time of day where he has finished working but hasn't eaten dinner yet.
This book is a lot of fun! I immediately became attached to the characters, and Vincent's use of their multiple points of view quickly immersed me in this world. I don't read a ton of fantasy fiction, but Vincent's comfort with storytelling really pulled me in. My favorite novels are those that transport me to another world and way of being, and Vincent nailed it, leaving me wanting to know more about this time and place. His imaginative spin on a fascinating story kept me engaged from start to finish, and I already cannot wait for the next installment of this series.
