4 - 4.5 ☆

Alice has finally found out who murdered her parents and getting closer to Kyle. But the culprit has gone underground and once again Alice has bad luck as she keeps on stepping into one pile of crap after another.

Things heat up between her and Riley Storm, her Warden and a Guardian.

Some of my questions have been answered which is good. However I would like to see Alice take a step back and actually train to use her magic as it is pure luck that she manages to survive. Another thing is that she said a lot of f$ck and shite and didn't have enough monologue it was like she was catching up with the big boys which is annoying.

It won't stop me from reading the other books as they are addictive.

Ever Wish A Book Series Improve?

I honestly do not really understand why I am still reading this series when they are so poorly written and annoy the crap out of me. The only reason is I am bored and too tired to look for something else.

I had such high expectations with the first book and it was bad but enough questions left over I wanted answers. Here I am book three with all the same unanswered questions, a deep hate of the world and characters.

There is no development, details, description or anything to give it appeal. How the fmc keeps randomly being kissed or humped by mmc when there is no chemistry or real interest is beyond me. And that is only I assume to appease readers somewhat.

The fact that none of the characters respect the fmc and are constantly withholding information is also annoying. FMC also has power issues and instead of learning, growing, becoming whatever she is in denial and doing the same old same old.

Also this needs so much editing it has absolutely horrendous sentence structure to the point a good bit was confusing because of how badly written it actually is.

This is book three of the Alice Skye series and follows her as she continues to work as a Paladin and with the local police department’s special investigation unit led by Peyton. Her godfather Dread has suddenly been replaced as Commissioner of the Paladin’s and she can’t find out why. His replacement, Mickey as she calls him, relies on a wand for his magic and has it out for Alice, even though she has the best record for catching crooked supernatural beings. Her closeness to Dread must be partly to blame, but she tries to continue with her work, only for him to follow her and ruin her next take down! He blames her and she ends up suspended without pay.

This doesn’t help her to pay the bills for the home she and her friend Sam share and leaves her at a loose end. She is also keeping track of her brother Kyle, now he is back on the scene, but she hasn’t managed to find out exactly what has happened to him, since they were separated as children, after the deaths of their parents. Mason Storm has confessed to being responsible for their deaths, but as his son Riley says, anything he has told her should be taken with a pinch of salt. You can’t trust anything he says. Riley has been left to make sense of his father’s huge business empire, all the deceptions he was part of and to try and get revenge for all the people he was responsible for killing.

They are both looking for Mason, albeit for different reasons, but threats to Sam and Kyle, leave Alice having to keep her actions secret and lead her being placed in danger herself. She still doesn’t know exactly what she is supposed to be, she is a witch, but has other powers which she is still trying to learn how to control, and not very well. She is told to continue training and to learn all she can, but her mentor or Guardian is actually Riley and they have more than a business relationship brewing. Most consider her brother dangerous and that he should be put down, but Alice wants to save him, he is looking better than he used to and needs to work on contacting her at his own speed. She can’t push matters.

The magical society isn’t sure if they can trust Alice, as no-one really knows what she is and whether she is dangerous to the rest of the supernatural society. They are going to judge her, but whether she has any say in this is yet to be seen. Mason has gone underground and is part of the Trinity running a large super enhanced Brimstone drug variation and for the abuse and genetic experiments Kyle has undergone, by the one called the Master. Alice managed to save him from the Master, but what Mason has to do with the Trinity is what she needs to find out and asking his son isn’t her usual method and she doubts she will get the answers she wants as Riley has his own agenda.

A cracking escalation in Alice’s story and the situations she is placed in. She will find out something about her mother, but the actual truth about her very being, is still being hidden by those that know something and her powers are still not working on demand. What her mother especially did, may have an influence on what happens to her and Kyle, but she will do everything she can to protect her brother and friends. Lots of action and some weirdly odd people trying to get at her. Matters are coming to a head and what will happen to Alice and Kyle is on tenderhooks. I can’t wait to read the next instalment to see where this series goes! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Okay, why do you do this to me all the time??? This book follows our main character Alice after her encounter with Riley's beast and her kidnapping! (not spoilers just a quick reminder)
.
___It's the 3rd book in this series, sooo Spoilers Ahead!
.
First, I continue to love my bae Sam and how he supports Alice in everything. We get to see a vulnerable side to him in this book and that was really nice! Alice continues to be a badass, but how she navigates problems without her father figure was quite interesting. Her attitude of act before you think really makes this book interesting to read ! The introduction to her brother as a character was good and we could figure out a lot with the few scenes he has.
.
Second, now as we have already mentioned, Riley is my absolute darling and WE HAVE ALICE & RILEY SCENES! I mean you end up high and dry after them and frustrated as well, but it's still there! And I basked in it for hours (#noshame). Rex is back and I am not sure how I feel about his verdict and I have no idea why Alice had to interrupt in that scene. *sigh* Mason was a vital character in this story and I wish we had more scenes with him ! Kyle and Alice bonds a little and my heart broke at the ending when he gets captured by Mason again. How can I forget the mysterious stanger trying to protect Alice?
.
We get to explore a bit more of the characters and how they have changed over the past three books. I expected Alice to act out in the last book, but she managed to keep it together till Book 3 when it came to Palladin. I still want to read more about her mysterious colleague and I really realllyyy want to know what he is. I am really happy with the dual perspective storyline and I first thought it was Riley, but then I figured it was Rex (disappointed here). We get to experience a lot of character development for both Alice and Riley which was real nice. And I still think Sam is the best character in this series. If you argue otherwise, I will fight you. The epilogue gave me satisfaction, but I have so many questions wrt certain decisions.
.
Overall, an amazing continuation to this series, and I can't wait to find out what rash decisions and consequences Alice will make next!

„Rogues Mercy“ is already the third book in the “Alice Skye Series” by Taylor White, and it could not come soon enough 😊 this series featuring Paladin Agent Alice Skye, takes you for a ride with every new adventure.

This time Alice is in for some introspection, as her brother Kyle reaches out asking her for help after have being out of the picture for a long time. Kyle and Alice seem to be pursuing the very same suspect, the man that one betrayed their family. The plot offers an insight on Alice’s past showing hidden aspects of her personality and forcing Alice to take some hard decisions that seem to clash to her own moral commitments. Alice’s character keeps on evolving and becoming one of the more interesting female heroines in contemporary UF. As on the rest of the series all secondary characters are fully fleshed, and Kyle is an intriguing addiction to the series. The action keeps on building after the satisfactory, even if somehow unexpected end.

Taylor White’s writing is fast paced, action filled with the right amount of drama and chemistry to add romance to the adventure without overshadowing the action. It is not only a fresh brand-new take on classic Urban Fantasy elements, but also highly addictive, thus be aware, or better still …. read all books in a row and them just wait patiently for the next book…. 😉

A THRILLING ACTION PACKED TREAT!!!
Smackdown! Taylor unleashes one explosive non-stop, action packed, hard hitting, pulse racing, nailbiting, adrenaline pumping bombshell, hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. Satisfaction is an understatement, this baby comes packing a punch that'll bring you to your knees, keeping you riveted on a razors edge. Rousting the drama, turmoil, intrigue, danger, mounting suspense and nerve racking situations along with a boatload of treachery while dodging bedlem, makes for one chart topping, jaw dropping experience. Maneuvering through terrifying trials and torrid tribulations, noting the shocking twists and wicked turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never envisioned. Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, blowing this gem into a roaring tempest, blasting it into a frenzy with a mind-blowing culmination. The characters are complex and authentic with depth and traits that blend and flow, transforming into genuinely relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions you have no problem picturing each scenario creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Amazing job Taylor, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Good

WARNING! Cliffhanger! It’s about a 3/5 on the trauma scale, meaning it’s a book hook, but may prove important.
Things are changing for Alice and Riley, as they hunt for Riley’s father Mason.
Alice finds herself dealing with unexpected issues with her work, and the hunt for Mason causes several complications for both her and Riley.
Meanwhile Alice also has her brother to deal with…

There’s a lot that happens in this book, but there’s not a whole lot of progress made overall: definitely frustrating for Alice, but an engrossing read for us!
Alice hasn’t learned her lesson: she’s still impulsive, far too independent (hypocritically so), and not willing to learn what she needs to. It makes her a rather frustrating lead at times, but of course makes for some definitely exciting experiences.
There’s some interesting Rex stuff in this one, that allows for a level of closure on that front, while Alice gets to learn a little more about Riley.

Since this book picks up where book two left off, it’s pretty obviously not a standalone- but rather an ongoing tale. It’s an enthralling read though, with some interesting twists and turns, and some intriguing characters.
This is a darker themed Urban Fantasy, good for UF readers who don’t mind intrigue and intense scenes.

Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Read books 2-6 in 3 days so kind of hard to separate them out into individual books so will talk about series as a whole. I really enjoyed the series - it had all the elements of what makes a truly enjoyable UF series for me. There is an overarching or bigger storyline to do with Alice's destiny of which we learn more in each book, along with a separate case for Alice to solve and romance, but the romance doesn't overshadow the plot and it is not the only relationship, Alice also has friends & colleagues. Alice is suitably kickass but not in an annoyingly Mary Sue way. She is relatable and the relationship between her and her best friend leopard shifter Sam is probably my favourite thing in the whole series.

Alice is back for another amazing adventure full of action, magic, sword fights, magic fights, betrayal and more secrets to be found. This time Alice and Riley are back working together to find Mason and answers. Kyle and Sam also are back along with the other major and minor characters in this series that are all a hoot. Besides danger there were a lot of scenes that made me laugh out loud but the story kept me glued to the end to see if Mason's secrets would all be revealed and if he could actually be found this time. I Loved the pace and the craziness. With the mix of work and private insanity the story was amazing book for this series.

Magically infused action

Love the story of Alice as she dances her way through the past and present mysteries of her life. I will say I’m disappointed that the story is not developing faster. When is her background going to be revealed, when is her relationship with Riley going to be a relationship, when is she going to understand how to use her magic, why is she still so lost as to who “War” is? The stories are so well written, I just think lose ends need to be tied up or the readers will begin to get frustrated.... I am

Well done!!

This book has left me quite emotional! There is so much that occurs in here. Between Alice and Sam, Alice and kyle, Alice and Riley, Alice and Rex, Alice and mason. There’s a lot. And oh it’s so good. And yet there’s still so much to come. I know that I’m hooked and I’m definitely going to keep this series as a favorite for a long time coming!

The writing style is fantastic! It’s hard for me to put this book down and I’ve gotta say, it’s kept me sucked into a world that I feel, not just imagine! Absolutely excellent!!!!

pretty exciting with Riley and Kyle

I liked this one a lot more because of Kyle and Riley. It was fun seeing the other characters but I’m glad Alice actually did more than just interact with them. The story moved forward for me. Exciting things I’ve been curious about or hoping to see come to life actually did its thing in the book, so yay.

Alice is still a little wonky to me. She gets into so much trouble with her mouth and can’t always back it up, and that’s what doesn’t do it for me. But she’s growing (I hope).

Rogue's Mercy, the third book of the Alice Skye, Witch Detective series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). First off, I'm not sure how "eyes diluted to slits" works, but this wasn't the first questionable word choice I've come across with this author. I wanted to enjoy this continuation of the series' story line, but there was so much stuff going on and so many reveals, I started to lose interest. I'll try one more book to see if the plot thickens, or dare I say it? becomes diluted.

Ahhhh! My favorite so far! Loved the troll market and pit fighting. It has been fun journeying along with Alice as she figures out who she is and how to help her brother. Love Riley and Alice even more. I appreciate the complexity of Rex and still want him as far away from Alice as possible.

Can’t wait to finish the next one. When is book five coming?!? Already looking forward to it. Such a fun new series. Just what I have been looking for. Thanks!

Why are Riley’s “brothers” so antagonistic to Alice?

This book dealt mostly with Alice tracking down her brother Kyle and hunting down Riley’s father, Mason. Maybe it’s just me but there didn’t seem to be as many “feels” as the last book.

The daemon she summons is pretty funny. What’s up with Jordan?

Still loving Sam and wish I had one. Not sure if Poe shows up in this book or the next.

Mickey is now commissioner of Supernatural Intelligence Bureau and Dread has been removed.
Mickey likes to make Alice’s work life horrendous.
Kyle reaches out to Alice and asks for help. She soon realises that they are both hunting the same target.
Riley’s father has gone underground and threatening Sam and Kyle.
Riley and Alice are forced to work together to track Mason down plus protecting Kyle. Kyle is deemed dangerous and Riley is trained to destroy anyone that’s dangerous.

Really, it’s not over yet?

Thought this would be the last book, but you know what happens when you assume...

Still just an okay read. I’m not enthused with this, but it’s not boring either. Definitely not going on though as it’s been 3 books and I’m not loving it. Just not for me even though I gave it a good go.

I like Alice but

Why does she choose to do stupid things. At times I want to shake her and say for God's sake think and stop making promises / deals Willy nilly. Will I read the next one? Of course as I'm invested now.

Funny jokes .

This book has got some brill short jokes that Alice tells. To the point I even repeat them to my friends... back to the book. I'm glad she and Riley finally took the plunge after he realised her. I'm glad they found her bro but won't give away how. Really good read.
