The Discipline of Intimacy: The Joy and Awe of Walking with God

Rate this book
People who pray are those who break through, who hold on, who stand in the gap, who will not be silent, and even who change history. But they are also those who wait in the silence, sometimes in the sorrows, who contemplate His beauty, and stand in awe. The Discipline of Intimacy looks at the dynamic paradox of prayer: knowing how to be still and silent but also how to plead and speak. Knowing how to let go but also how to hold on.

For individuals and church groups, The Discipline of Intimacy is for anyone seeking help to develop their relationship with God, particularly where once-passionate hearts may have lost their spark. With accompanying videos and questions for reflection and discussion, readers and participants will be introduced to practical and biblically-rooted ways to experience the intimacy with God they have longed for, and will have the tools to cultivate a life that is characterized by this closeness.

A beautiful, biblically grounded resource to aid the daily walk of prayer.
It’s also full of wise and honest stories of a man who has led his family and his church in the rhythms of prayer through heartache and pain and then joy and celebration!
I would recommend to everyone!

An engaging exploration of the inner life written from a charismatic/Pentecostal perspective. The tone is uplifting while still challenging the reader to plunge more fully into the relationship God offers.

Topics range from paying over nations to dealing with lament. There is an unabashed call to prayer as the meeting place with God and an optimistic perspective of God’s transforming power. Cleverly has pastored congregations in England and France. His multinational connections enrich this work and make it a delightful read for devotional times.

There were some good chapters that it’s probably worth reading for, but then some chapters that are long and hard to read, so wasn’t the easiest book to read.
But, the good chapters, like ones about praying for nations and family prayer I thought were great and aren’t really covered in other books!
