Mirror Man

Rate this book
Alfie escapes to the Devon countryside, but his new home has a mystical past and he is soon caught up in a love triangle that takes him beyond the world he knows.

When Alfie moves to a Victorian cottage in the wilds of the Devon countryside, he’s looking for a fresh start and some solitude. However, soon after moving into his new home, he begins to have vivid dreams about a stunningly handsome stranger, who appears to be trapped inside an antique mirror that hangs on the wall in the living room.

To add to his confusion, Alfie is also visited by his young landlord, who seems to know more about the man in the mirror than he wants to reveal.

Alfie finds himself torn between two men, one who seems like perfect boyfriend material, the other a mystical force of nature, desperate to be freed from his magical prison.

Most definitely a different kind of romance. Trapped in the mirror, Charles is a very convincing man. Alfie, new to the cottage and new to mirror man, meets Ben who is all too familiar with the mirror man. What began as curiosity soon reveals hidden truths and a very fast paced romance is born. Some twists add intrigue to the story and the happy ending brings nice closure.

Not your average story. Made me think and I enjoyed the dream aspect of this. It was a slow start for me but then I got into the story and it rolled right along. Very different.

Mirror Man offered a fun distraction during a very busy time of the year for me. It was easy to imagine Alfie being put off any sort of relationship, having just ended his live-in situation with his philandering ex. The way his sex drive goes into overdrive is neatly explained as a side effect of the mirror and the sexy apparition of a man whom Alfie deams of seeing there. It also helped explain why Alfie feels an instant attraction to Ben—it’s partly just that Alfie is now available and happens to like Ben, but Alfie’s also being influenced by the mirror. So if you are looking for a story that features all manner of physical intimacy, then you’ll find a lot of scenes to enjoy in this story.

The quasi love triangle was a fun puzzle, too. Alfie learns the man in the mirror is more than just a dream, and based on how attractive the man is and how ready to engage in carnal pleasures—which are very heightened because of how the man came to be trapped in the mirror—Alfie bears a lot of sympathy for him. When Ben finds out about this connection and comes clean about the mirror and its history, Alfie is a bit skeptical, but is willing to give Ben the benefit of the doubt.

He bought a house to start a new future and ended up with someone else’s past.

When bought the house he thought he had gotten away from drama. He was starting over. Then the dream came and so did the man...the really good looking man.

The next day the former owner knocks on his door, Ben, and he is confronted with another fine looking man. Ben is asking about the house and the mirror. That night he has yet another dream in front of the mirror with the man in the mirror which Ben calls and interrupts.

Ben has to tell him something...about the mirror.

Samuel King keeps you guessing in Mirror Man (Pride Publishing, B07Z41YYNB, 2019). He also keeps you stimulated between the man in the mirror and Ben (laugh). You do not know who to root for as they both seem to provoke similar feelings in our main character. You also do not know who is telling the truth. Or how the story is going to end which is exciting.

I cannot really say a lot as this is a novella and I do not want to give anything away. If you are looking for a quick “whodunit” or mystery with some hot sex, then Mirror Man is for you. I have to say that even if you are not looking for it, you should still read it (laugh). ✶✶✶✶

I enjoyed this book as far as it went and that was the problem for me. It really is a short story not a novel. I read and enjoyed The Black Mask, also by Samuel King and had the same trouble with it. I really felt with both books that the basic ideas were interesting, but the stories could have been so much better if they were more developed and longer. Sorry but for the price I see this is selling for on Amazon there are much better things to read.

An interesting take on a love triangle. The man who is there and the one who inhabits your dreams, just out of reach but intriguing and enticing. Both are attractive but it it clear there is more going on then meets the eye. The storytelling kept my interest.

Alfie moves to Devon for a fresh start. He starts dreaming of a man who's trapped in the mirror in his living room. He's attracted to the man. Things get more confusing when he meets his landlord and is attracted to him. Alfie has feelings for both, one who is everything he wants in a man and one is hiding things. I really enjoyed this book. It's a short read.
