Happily Ever Austen #1

Pride & Pancakes

Rate this book
When a cold-hearted singer and a hard-headed journalist are trapped together in a blizzard, there will be sparks—and pancakes.

When Beth Cho is tasked with interviewing elusive musician Tristan Harty, it’s hate at first sight. Despite his sapphire-blue eyes and lithe frame, he’s got to be the most infuriating man on the planet.

Tristan Harty is already sick of reporters and this one is proving no different. Sure, she might be adorable with her ebony hair and big brown eyes, but her incessant need to dig into his past is dragging on his last nerve.

The bickering duo vow never to meet again, but Mother Nature has other plans for them, trapping them in a Vermont cabin via a blizzard. The more Beth learns about the aristocratic Tristan, the harder it is for her to keep her professional distance, just as Tristan discovers that a loving heart beats inside the beautiful reporter.

But what happens when the snowstorm’s over, and the melted Tristan and enamored Beth are free to leave? Can their reluctant attraction bloom into a deeper love now their cold-as-ice judgment has thawed?

Reader advisory: Pride and Pancakes is a sweet yet steamy contemporary story inspired by the immortal Pride & Prejudice. There are references to sexual abuse, death from drug overdose and death in car crash.

When I saw the cover of this book, and after I read the plot, I was thinking about a Hallmark story. But it was not what I expected. The first half of it was too boring for me - I expected more than 50 pages to find out their secrets, and the last part was too sappy. Personaly, I didn't like it. But for the most part, it was ok. But in my opinion, it has nothing in common with Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. Maybe, only those two words from the title. And it is for sure for those over 18+.

I received a free copy of this book, but this review provides my honest opinion.

The author did a great job. I loved the built-up of the chemistry between Tristan and Beth and that they took the opportunity to get to know each other. Only thing is that I would have loved to know if Olivia got better or if Tristan kept singing to her after he was back in the spotlight.

Overall, good work, Ellen.

Timeless gets a makeover and breezes it's way into your heart. Mint does Austen proud with a modern twist to an old classic. Pride & Pancakes crosses stereotypes with humor and heart that will stay with you, no matter how many times you read Beth & Tristan's tango into love.

A complete romp of a "omg we're trapped in a cabin in the snow" enemies to lovers, grumpy-sunshine take on a classic. I highly recommend it for a quick, satisfying read!

Pride & Pancakes is the first in the Happily Even Austen series by Ellen Mint. When I first saw this book was offered for review, I snapped it up. Being a huge fan of Pride & Prejudice, I was super excited it read this book. Although this book took me multiple days to get through, which is unusual for me, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Pride & Pancakes was an enjoyable book with a beautiful cast of characters, but I did have a small issue. First off, the good. I loved Beth and Tristian. While it took forever for them to start getting along finally, it was worth it. They both hate each other, pretty much on sight, but as the story progresses, they realize that their pride and preconceived notions got in the way. I loved both of their backgrounds. While neither are happy, it brought so much depth and emotion to both characters. When I started reading this book, I didn't get a considerable feel for the Pride & Prejudice aspect. There were hints here and there, but it wasn't smacking you in the noggin with the original Pride & Prejudice story. As I got to the end of Pride & Pancakes, though, I came to appreciate the author's unique twist on the classic Pride & Prejudice story.

In short, I will be looking for more by this author. I would recommend this book but also warn that, at least to me, this doesn't follow Pride & Prejudice's storyline. So, if you want a modern adaptation of a Pride & Prejudice storyline, this isn't for you. If you want a book that has a hint of the classic but marches to its unique tune, this is for you. My rating, 4.5 pancakes!

Our hero is Tristan Harty, who was a super pop star in his teens , but who has been out of the loop for a decade. Our heroine is Beth Cho, daughter of a well-known war correspondent, but still working her way up from journalism school, working at a tabloid, who, obviously want the dirt on Tristan, now that he is back out in the limelight.
1. They meet for their interview in an old honeymoon lodge, and Tristan, who has been stung by reporters, is unpleasant. Beth, who needs this interview to keep her job is quite jumpy. They have pancakes.
2. They get snowed in. Attractive people 3 days alone. He teaches her to play guitar. Pancakes.
3. They are rescued, mean words are said.
4. They get back together, as he writes her a note with pancake mix.
All that said, it totally did not call Pride and Prejudice to my mind. It was a lovely story, with occasional pancake appearances. It has a HEA ending.
I was given a review copy by StoryOrigin, and I was happy to review it. I will look for more books from this author.

Pride and Pancakes is a short and sassy story about a returning washed-up rock star and a reporter who are at each other's throats until they are snowed in together and the sexual tension is too much to bare. Beth Cho is a reporter who goes for the throat as she is trying to prove to herself and the world that she is someone worth listening to. Tristan Harty is a has-been musician who wants to come out of retirement. As these two fight before succumbing to their lust for each other the tension is high. They have some witty sparring.

This story is a fast-tracked romance where the two characters give into their sexual tension in explicit escapades while snowed in at the cabin where they meet. While there are some light plot holes such as why they met at the cabin in the first place, the romantic story is brief but enjoyable. The explicit nature of the sex was unnecessary however the way the two characters reconciled after a misunderstanding led to an all-endearing happily ever after.

I don't normally read romance novels, but this was a good rainy day read.

Did it really have anything in common with Pride and Prejudice ? On the surface no.

But Tristan and Beth are both astonishingly proud characters and that is a pretty striking similarity to Darcy and Elizabeth. While there aren't a lot of secondary or tertiary characters in this story it is a cute one.

Also definitely 18+. It's a good steamy novel to warm you on cold nights

This was an okay read for me. Beth and Tristan as characters were developed with their own flaws and bias's. Tristan the heart throb trying to make a comeback after an intense event. Beth a journalist sent to get his story. In a way this was a hate to lover story. It takes a bit before the characters connect with the second half of the book being the more enjoyable half.

Crap! Nowhere did it say this was just a sample until 4 chapters in it suddenly stops. I don't have a problem with authors giving away free teasers and cliffhanger stories, but warn your potential readers beforehand. I don't read any story that doesn't have an ending! Period! What a freaking waste of time.

This was a fun little enemies-to-lovers story. I loved how Beth and Tristan were forced to get to know each other by being into close quarters. Who would have guessed the past that Tristan was trying to hide? With their initial dislike of each other, there were some sweet events that took place between the two. I also love that I know of the place he grew up. That was a nice surprise.

This snappy, unusual romance whisked me away. Loved the dialogue, the fun setting, and the snarly-at-times, lovable, and realistic characters. Loved the author's unusual style. If you're looking for something that's not a cookie-cutter romance, you've just found it.

Final book of the year! I guess this year wasn't one for reading much... same as being active on bookstagram. Hopefully next year it'll be better! 😊

And this was a cute read, if you don't hope too much for a P&P feeling. ❄ Lots of pining and "there was only one bed" is a classic.

This book was cute and very unexpected. I somewhat liked it, but just had a hard time trying to get into it. I wish it was longer so I could actually enjoy it. But overall decent read.

The overall storyline was well written. It had a nice twist which made the story more interesting. Because prior to the twist, the story was exactly the same as every other romance story.

I was gifted this book from voracious readers and it was a nice easy read. The style of characters were physically very different from the 'norm' which was good and both were likeable.

This was my first time reading and reviewing a novel by Ellen Mint. The title of this book is what really captured my attention in wanting to read it.
Beth Cho is a magazine writer and she’s assigned to do an article on Tristan Harry a teen idol singer/songwriter making a comeback as an adult and using the same manager, Barry because he can trust him.
Beth travels by car to a honeymoon cabin in the snowy mountains for the interview and is made to wait until photographers are finished, which leaves her hot. Tristan isn’t really thrilled to do the interview because he has trust issues with reporters. With time running out Beth and Tristan are left alone in a cabin to finish the interview and get snowed in. This is the interview from hell and these two are at each other like bulldogs.
This book has a very long drawn out beginning, it’s like being the witness to a virtual fight. I didn’t start to enjoy it until it was almost towards the end. I was expecting a little more of a modern day Jane Austen, Pride Prejudice to it. I’m curious as to what book two will be like since this is a series.

Quite an enjoyable Austen-inspired story. I really appreciated that the author didn’t make the cabin stay luxurious. Would have loved more background on both Beth and Tristan.
