Three Amish novels set during the Great Depression, by bestselling Amish romance author Linda Byler
Follow feisty and independent Hannah as she grows from a fifteen-year-old girl in a covered wagon headed west with her family, all the way through marriage, tragedy, and her ongoing pursuit of home and belonging. In this unique and gripping trilogy, Hannah's struggles to reconcile her Amish faith with her fiery and rebellious spirit parallel the relentless hardships of life as a homesteader in North Dakota, including famine, blizzards, fires, and more.
The Homestead: When Hannah's family, hit hard by the Great Depression, loses their farm, Hannah’s father loads his family and what little they have left into their covered wagon, dreaming of a better future far west of Lancaster. They settle in North Dakota, hundreds of miles from any Amish community. But his visions of success are shattered by the reality that his knowledge of farming in Lancaster isn’t of much use in Midwestern soil. With the fields barren and her family on the verge of starvation, independent and stubborn Hannah is forced to seek help from charismatic ranch hand Clay Jenkins and his family.
Hope on the Plains: Hannah’s family is finally feeling settled. The cattle business is doing well, and other Amish families have moved into the area. Feeling betrayed by Clay Jenkins and unimpressed with her own father, Hannah is hesitant to trust the men around her. Jerry Riehl, intrigued by her intelligence and strong will, will try anything to earn Hannah’s respect.
Home Is Where the Heart Is: Despite tragedy and almost unimaginable hardship, Hannah and her new husband are leading their Amish friends and family in their homesteading venture. But one final blow leaves Hannah grappling with her faith, struggling to understand who she is and how she fits in to the world around her. What will it take for her to feel like she’s home, like she finally belongs somewhere?

If you want to read about anguish, pain, disappointment and tragedy, read this trilogy. I usually love books about the Amish, and Linda Hyper has written some excellent ones. This trilogy, mostly set in North Dakota, seems to dwell on the hardships. It was depressing to read that nothing they did succeeded on the plains. It took Hannah way to long to figure out how to be a decent human being much less be less rebellious and live an Amish life. Kept pushing myself to keep reading hoping Hannah would learn to let people in, but didn't happen till almost too late. Disappointing!
Hannah is not a typical Amish young women. She is determined, stubborn and often uncaring about others. It is her determination and stubbornness that gets her through the hard life of the North Dakota prairie during the depression and dust bowl days. I appreciate Linda Byler's descriptions of the land and the weather. It is enlightening
This story is of dreams unfulfilled and fulfilled. Of love needed and finally achieved but it took a lot of very hard work. Hard work is a key to life wherein you find love. A very good read, couldn't put it down.
This author's story lines are very good; really drew me into the stories. However, too wordy. Descriptions are lengthy sometimes to the point I lost the idea the author was trying to get across. Sometimes, descriptions didn't even make sense to me. I've read Linda Byler's books before and enjoyed them but I don't remember all the wordy paragraphs. All in all I enjoy the story lines of this Amish family, rebellious daughter/ wife and the husband and family she was blessed with.

I enjoyed the whole story. Hannah was difficult to like and I couldn’t figure out how the men were so attracted to her and her poor first husband was such a good and caring man but she was just a horrible bully that no one liked.
What a fantastic read. I felt so many emotions reading this series. I felt especially frustrated with Hannah, but admired her courage as well. So sad this book ended.
Rated four stars. My app is not working properly. Read the first book of the trilogy. Not your typical Amish fluff. Very well written, great characters and a very interesting, unusual storyline. Four stars!! The second book lagged a bit for me at one point but not for long. Again, well written, great characters and such a strong, interesting and unusual story. Definitely four stars!! Can't wait to finish the trilogy! The third book started out very exciting and with the same depth of characters and great writing, but then it just fell off the rails. It felt like the outline of another trilogy, quite honestly. Lots of summaries, compared to the long, interesting detail in the first two books. I found this so disappointing! If the author has taken it and expanded it, creating the depth of characters and experiences that the first two novels had, she could have had a whole new trilogy. So three stars for the third book but still a four star rating for the trilogy!
